The primary role of the 20th Fighter Wing's F-16 Fighting Falcons is the suppression and destruction of enemy air defenses. During Operation Unified Protector (OUP), they supported NATO by protecting assets through finding and eliminating anything that could take out coalition aircraft.

The Government of Norway has announced its plans to reduce its fighter contribution and withdrawal from Operation Unified Protector.
RDAF F-16s’s operating against forces loyal to Colonel Gaddafi in Libya are running out of bombs according to a June 9 report. A request to the replenish stocks has been made to the Netherlands.
Dutch F-16 fighter jets were taking part in a NATO mission over Libya, but were not involved in air strikes, the Dutch newspaper Volkskrant reported on Wednesday,quoting defence briefings.
As of last Friday Belgian F-16s have also been involved in night-time bombing raids on targets in Libya. The jets attacked a number of logistical facilities, such as maintenance complexes for tanks.
