Cheesy but chipper vampire comedy has modest charms.

In an era transfixed by zombies and assorted other ghouls, Vamps is a refreshing change of pace.

"Vamps" is mostly a misfire, but Heckerling still shows enough flashes of wit and wisdom that she remains hard to entirely dismiss.

Vamps sends up our pop cultural fascination with bloodsucking but is itself a bit stiff with rigor mortis.

Aging is probably the real theme here, but it's approached sidelong and has no punch. Still, only the nostalgia has any real conviction.

At times, Heckerling's script feels as though it's been sitting in a coffin, as the film takes on a campy tone with its endless array of anachronistic sight gags and one-liners.

A playful flick about two female vampires, city life and the huge role of screens in our lives.

A satire with much of the wit of her [Heckerling's] 1995 Clueless.

Vampire comedy has cute moments but lacks bite.

While it did feel more like an extended sitcom to me than an actual film, I must say I found it fun.

In Amy Herckerling's film, being a vampire is ordinary rather than remarkable - which pretty much describes VAMPS.

"Vamps" teeters on the brink of not quite working and yet still routinely lands its laughs.

Bold, ambitious, but it's rarely funny. Heckerling works to squeeze out a few laughs along the way, but the punchlines are soggy and the situations a little too cartoonish at times, resembling a sketch comedy show about vampires.

[This] shambling little comedy never finds a consistent groove, but it's eager to please, and has the ancient gags to do it.

The film's comedic potential is defanged by a pervading tone of embittered nostalgia. Goody doesn't mock our smartphone-loving society with barbed affection-she just wants it to go away.

A sense of anachronism is what provides the film with its melancholy heart.

Audience Reviews for Vamps

Writer/director Amy Heckerling is best known for her films Fast Times at Ridgemont Hight (1982), Look Who's Talking (1989) and Clueless (1995). She hit the 'Fast Times' in 1982 and it was her first taste of success; but she played the Hollywood game very cautiously and while she did work steadily her hits were few-and-far-between -- although highly memorable. Her latest effort, Vamps, is a "vampires are people too flick" about two twenty-something (wink-wink-ahem) vampires who luckily like the nightlife. Goody (Alicia Silverstone - Clueless, Batman & Robin) is tasked with showing newbie-vampire, Stacy (Krysten Ritter - Confessions of a Shopaholic, 27 Dresses), the ropes as their creator, Cisserus (Sigourney Weaver - Ghostbusters, Copycat), travels the globe and causes as much trouble as she desires -- she'd eat an entire town if she wanted to do so. The dialogue, conversations and characters in Vamps are hilarious, Heckerling fun; but most of the reset of the film looks like a horrible mess. The special effects could have better if they had utilized some 2-dimensional animation! The genuine mirth one has for the characters at the film's beginning is soon replaced by the over-the-top schlock that is less-welcome than a stake.

This movie was directed by Amy Heckerling "Clueless" "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" "Look Who's Talking" among many others. Sure it's not going to win any awards but If you are a fan of Clueless and you like Vampires you should enjoy VAMPS. It's great to see Alicia Silverstone back! And filming 3-4 other movies for 2013! I missed her. Sigourney Weaver is also fun in this movie. The movie may not be a hit with the current generation, but like i said if you loved Clueless back in the day your in for a real treat, Sit back and enjoy this cheesy fun comedy/romance movie giving you deju-vu from 1995 all over again!
