Use of Instagram on the Web and Instagram Ads

Instagram has become the most popular photo application and no one can easily deny that fact.

Still, it has competitors in the sector and that's a thing users are in favor of because it means having alternative apps. But since Instagram was acquired by Facebook it took back the power of being the most effective social media platform. We can also anticipate that the app will maintain its strength moving forward. Many of us are already fans of Instagram or will become so soon, presumably. However, can we use Instagram on PCs and laptops? Is that going to change in time? “Can we use Instagram on the Web?” is a question most Instagram users have asked at least once and searched for the answer on Google. This post is for those still in doubt.

We digital poor

Since we don't have access to the technology that we see on all the American sci-fi movies -- and I believe that some of those devices are real and that Bill Gates and similar people are using them at home – there are limited ways to use apps. We can use Instagram on mobile phones and tablets only, we are digital poor. I would volunteer to build a website for Instagram – for free -- to use all its functions if Mark would allow me to. However, they must have a strategy based on not opening Instagram to Web users and I believe they will keep that strategy for a long time.

Facebook's ad policy

My belief is based on Facebook's advertisement history. What Facebook does best is not developing communication among people, but making money from advertisements. It has become one of biggest advertising platforms and Instagram was another potential source for making money. There we have it; it is not being used with all its functions on the Web because Facebook is there.

Use only Facebook on the web, nothing else: internet.org

Facebook doesn't like there being any other social platform on the Web, even if it only works on mobiles and there is a hunger for more. Therefore, it only allows Instagram to be published on the Web, which is an extra advertisement field, but does not let it actually work on the Web. Instagram is expressing its desire about advertisements on its official help center site, where it says “Everyone will see an ad on Instagram from time to time. Initially, we're showing ads only to people 18 and over in the US as we start slowly and take time to get the experience right.” That was unexpected, actually. We thought that Facebook was bringing Internet access to everyone on the planet with its project internet.org just as a good deed. There is a Turkish saying that applies, “Even the kid on the street can see what that is for,” More Internet users, more income for Facebook.

Facebook hunger games

To cut a long story short, we can see what we share via Instagram on the Web but we cannot use Instagram's features and publish a photo or video. That is because Facebook might as well be a candidate in the movie “Hunger Games.” It might present our photos and videos on the web with a different and better way in the future, but it seems Instagram will maintain its current strategy for a long time.

I know this was an angry post, but believe me it is not because I was too late to create Facebook before Mark Zuckerberg or because I am jealous of him.
