The Buzz: Scrappy director Steve Pink is aboard this contemporary version of the 1986 romantic comedy, and I'm guessing the update with have a lot to say about trying to build a relationship in an era where privacy is hard to come by. Bachelorette (2012) director/writer Leslye Headland handled the adaptation, so the scenarios and dialogue could get filthy -- perhaps an open field for Kevin Hart to let loose like he does on stage.

Certificate PG-13   -   Action | Crime | Sci-Fi | Thriller

Metascore: 51/100 (7 reviews)
In 2028 Detroit, when Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) - a loving husband, father and good cop - is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer.

The Buzz: For his English-language debut, Elite Squad (2007) director Jose Padilha has the dubious honor of handling this long-in-development remake that had trouble holding onto its stars before filming began. Even with this enviable cast, in the post-Total Recall (2012), post-Dredd (2012) era, the studio and most everyone involved with this project must be a bit nervous.

Certificate PG-13   -   Drama | Fantasy | Mystery | Romance

A burglar falls for an heiress as she dies in his arms. When he learns that he has the gift of reincarnation, he sets out to save her.

The Buzz: It's easy to see why novelist Mark Helprin's New York City fantasy would appeal to screenwriter Akiva Goldsman for his directorial debut, but we have so many questions about this movie's box-office chances. Colin Farrell: we love him as an actor and would love to drink with him as a friend, but audiences don't seem interested in him as a leading man. And the fantasy genre hasn't served many studios that well, unless they're working with an already established franchise. Meanwhile, it's interesting to see Will Smith in a supporting role.

Certificate PG-13   -   Drama | Romance

The story of a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart.
Director:

The Buzz: We crave an obsessive-love thriller now and then and hope the script by "Gossip Girl" vet Joshua Safran overflows with bad behavior from Alex Pettyfer, who just might have found a starring role worthy of his Hollywood reputation. Shana Feste (Country Strong (2010)) directs.

Certificate PG-13   -   Action | Adventure | Drama | History | Romance

A slave turned gladiator finds himself in a race against time to save his true love, who has been betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts, he must fight to save his beloved as Pompeii crumbles around him.

The Buzz: Populist filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson approaches every one of his projects with the same frantic enthusiasm, so he's an obvious pick to handle this historical action/adventure tale. But we wonder if the romance angle might keep some of the Resident Evil at bay. His swooshy take on The Three Musketeers was spared complete embarrassment only by its performance overseas. And why do we feel like this won't be the only time we see Kit Harrington and Emily Browning paired up?

Certificate PG-13 Action | Crime | Drama | Thriller

A dying Secret Service Agent trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter is offered an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment.
Director:

The Buzz: Liam Neeson's Taken's success obviously caused handfuls of similar projects to be put in development; kudos to Kevin Costner for already having his career back on track before taking on this one ... last ... assignment.

Certificate PG-13   -   Animation | Biography | Drama | History | Romance | War

Metascore: 84/100 (18 reviews)
A look at the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II.

The Buzz: We are 100% sure this is the last time we will see a work by Hayao Miyazaki even though he's played the retirement card yet again, indicating this is his last film. Remember that he signed off after Princess Mononoke and re-emerged with Spirited Away. Perhaps this is way a small segment of Miyazaki's movie-reviewer disciples are so grumbly.

Certificate PG-13   -   Action | Mystery | Thriller

An air marshal springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages that put his fellow passengers at risk unless the airline transfers $150 million into an off-shore account.

The Buzz: Liam Neeson is the new Jason Statham since we're having difficulty distinguishing one of his action roles from another these days. This time out, he reunites with his Unknown director Jaume Collet-Serra and takes to the skies over the Atlantic Ocean -- something we don't often see anymore in mainstream movies. We see Julianne Moore aboard the plane and don't imagine she just sits there the entire time, but we're wondering how exactly Oscar nominee Lupita Nyong'o fits into the narrative. Is she playing a baddie? Hope so!

Certificate PG-13 Drama

The life story of Jesus is told from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection.

The Buzz: It's easy to see why "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett put this film together in the wake of "The Bible"'s success after Burnett and company received huge ratings and three Emmy nominations for that mini-series. Assuredly lower profile than Darren Aronofsky's Noah or Ridley Scott's Exodus, when all the accounting is done, we bet this is the project that actually makes a profit.
