Maya is a CIA operative whose first experience is in the interrogation of prisoners following the Al Qaeda attacks against the U.S. on the 11th September 2001. She is a reluctant participant in extreme duress applied to the detainees, but believes that the truth may only be obtained through such tactics. For several years, she is single-minded in her pursuit of leads to uncover the whereabouts of Al Qaeda's leader, Osama Bin Laden. Finally, in 2011, it appears that her work will pay off, and a U.S. Navy SEAL team is sent to kill or capture Bin Laden. But only Maya is confident Bin Laden is where she says he is. Written by

Of the many books she researched in preparation for her role as CIA operative Maya, Jessica Chastain found two of particular interest, namely, "The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11" by Lawrence Wright and "Osama Bin Laden" by Michael Scheuer. See more »

The filmmakers wish to especially acknowledge the sacrifice of those men, women, and families who were most impacted by the events depicted in this film: the victims and the families of the 9/11 attacks; as well as the attacks in the United Kingdom; the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan; in Khobar, Saudi Arabia; and at the Camp Chapman Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan. We also wish to acknowledge and honor the many extraordinary military and intelligence professionals and first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice. See more »
I went into this film with high expectations since it was nominated for several Oscars (including Best Picture) and was being compared to "Argo", which I liked a lot. I saw films such as "The Dictator" and Twilight: BD Part 2". Those were two of the worst films of the year, and they'll be accompanied by this. How on Earth was this nominated? The characters are uninteresting, boring, one-dimensional and lifeless. There is no development, no chemistry between any of them and there's nothing about them that makes me care about them.
The acting just didn't work. I cannot believe Jessica Chastain was nominated. Her face barely moved throughout the whole film, and only had two emotions, "worried" and "angry". She never smiled, or showed any other emotion. She was like a robot. The supporting cast is tolerable but suffer from the limited expressions that Chastain suffered from. These were REAL people, so portray them as REAL living human beings.
The story was all over the place. First they were here, then there, then here and over there again. The trailer was misleading. The trailer made it look like it was about the night Osama Bin Laden died. No, it was about EVERYTHING that came before it (including all the boring stuff).
The film was just lifeless. I felt no emotion for anything that was going on. The only "characters" I felt bad for was the monkeys. The sad part is, I really wanted to like this film. I wanted it to live up to the hype. I tried to like it, but the more I watched, the more I grew to hate it more. There's a lot of "hidden" propaganda in it, and that just isn't appropriate for this subject. It should be about catching Bid Laden, nothing more. There were dumb decisions that the film showed out CIA officers doing that never happened, and it portrays our CIA agents as emotionless robots.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed by the film. I never saw "the Hurt Locker" and, after so many have told me THIS was better (?), I never, ever plan to. This was no where as good as "Skyfall", "Argo", "Lincoln", or "Perks of Being a Wallflower". The ONLY part I would recommend is the parts with the Navy SEALS. That's it. I wouldn't recommend anything else in the film.
2/5 (2 for the Navy Seals parts)
