A&E orders Carlton Cuse's 'Returned' remake to series

4 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A&E has given a 10-episode series order to "The Returned" which, unlike ABC's "Resurrection," actually is a remake of the critically adored French zombie drama "Les Revenants." "Lost" veteran Carlton Cuse wrote the pilot script for "The Returned" and he will executive produce the series with "True Blood" veteran Raelle Tucker. Of course, now this means A&E will actually have to make a pilot for "The Returned," which becomes Cuse's second straight A&E pilot to get a direct-to-series order, following in the footsteps of "Bates Motel," which has already been renewed for a third season. This also becomes Cuse's third active TV production, as he's also showrunner on FX's "The Strain," which will have completed work on its first season before the vampire drama premieres in July. “’The Returned’ has the potential to be one of the most compelling drama series on cable, thanks to phenomenal scripts written by Carlton and Raelle, »

Disney and Lucasfilm were planning to announce the “Star Wars: Episode VII” cast on Sunday, May 4, which is widely known as Star Wars Day (“May the fourth be with you”), but casting rumors grew to such a fever pitch this week that the studios decided to reveal the ensemble early, lest the announcement continue to be spoiled one actor at a time. Several media outlets were primed to report Daisy Ridley's casting on Tuesday morning, and with Disney aware of the steady stream of leaks, they moved quickly to counter the press. In the year since Lucasfilm announced that the Star Trek and Super 8 filmmaker would be launching a new trilogy, we’ve been treated to a litany of casting rumors that would make R2-D2 squeal as his head spun around. Most proved to be utterly false.

Did every actor on the planet want a role? Yes. Did every actor talk to Lucasfilm about a role? No, but a lot did. Here are some of the also-rans.

This Guy Set a World Record by Running a Mile and Drinking Four Beers, All in Under 5 Minutes

41 minutes ago | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

When you were younger, you might have been stupid enough to try chugging a gallon of milk and running a mile. That's a very juvenile and immature thing to do. When you're a grown up, you do it with beer. The so-called Beer Mile is a real thing that people actually do—a one-mile race in which the runner must stop every 400 meters to drink a beer—and the record was held by Jim Finlayson of British Columbia at 5:09 flat. But two-time Ncaa champion James Nielsen, aka "The Beast," broke that record. The Beast says he trained for a year to break the record, including getting back into running shape, as well as training his stomach. He says he studied anatomy and "the physics of »

Naya Rivera Written Out of Glee's Season Finale—But it Has "Nothing to do With Lea Michele," Sources Say

43 minutes ago | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Naya Rivera will not be a part of Glee's fifth season finale, and her future on the show has not yet been decided, E! News has learned. Though the original plan was to include Naya in the final episode of the season, slated for May 13, her character Santana Lopez has been written out of the script, we are told by multiple sources. (Fox is not commenting.) Insiders point out that this change has nothing whatsoever to do with Lea Michele, nor the recent rumors of a falling out—and tension on set—between the two starlets. "[Naya] isn't fired and her not being in the finale has nothing to do with Lea," says one source who works on Glee. "I don't know where these stories are »

5 mistakes from 'X-Men: The Last Stand' that have to be fixed in 'Days of Future Past'

43 minutes ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

(Cbr) The mutant heroes of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" have a lot more than just mutant-hunting robots to fight against; they have the legacy of one of the more reviled entries in the X-Franchise to contend with. Screenwriter Simon Kinberg surprisingly admitted 2006′s "X-Men: The Last Stand‘s" shortcomings in his appearance on a panel at WonderCon. “It’s our attempt to right the wrongs of the past,” said. “We probably should have done better with Dark Phoenix, so this is our attempt to do better with "Days of Future Past". Every X-Men fan in existence knows that the word “probably” should be exchanged for the word “definitely” in order to accurately convey both how important “The Dark Phoenix Saga” is to the mythos – and just how horribly the film handled it. But at least the people behind this May’s "X-Men: Days of Future Past" know what they’re fighting against, »

Exclusive 'Rosemary's Baby' image finds Zoe Saldana in stylish repose

We're only two weeks from the birth of NBC's new take on "Rosemary's Baby" and, courtesy of NBC, HitFix has an exclusive picture of Zoe Saldana, who will be stepping into a modern version Mia Farrow's pixie cut for the Ira Levin adaptation. As you can see from the picture above -- a very nice NBC-provided image that is Not an exclusive -- the new "Rosemary's Baby" has been moved from New York City to Paris and the picture is presumably meant to make us sympathize with Patrick J. Adams' character, because we also would make some very dark pacts to get a Parisian flat with that unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower. In addition to Adams and Saldana, "Rosemary's Baby" stars Jason Isaacs and Carole Bouquet.  The teleplay comes from Scott Abbott and James Wong, with "Europa, Europa" and "Treme" veteran Agnieszka Holland. It has come to my attention that the heterosexual community is inviting itself to participate in lip-sync competitions on national television. "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" has featured spirited lip-sync battles with a number of celebrities, and they're often quite good. Quite enchanting! In fact, it's time for us to sort through Jimmy's combatants and pick out the king/queen of his lip-syncing galas.
