Biography

Dr. D'Alton specializes in high-risk Maternal Fetal Medicine, performing prenatal diagnostic procedures and managing maternal health complications. She has implemented a multidisciplinary approach to treat highest risk pregnancies and to diagnose and treat fetal complications. She was instrumental setting up Columbia University Medical Center’s Carmen and John Thain Center for Prenatal Pediatrics, a regional coordinated care center to treat fetal complications, which opened in 2010. Dr. D’Alton has promoted quality monitoring and training in new technologies to support clinical applications.

Her work to advance research, policy development and clinical practice has won national recognition. Honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 by the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM), Dr. D’Alton has served as its president and has held key positions in other professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ (ACOG) Neonatal Encephalopathy and Cerebral Palsy Task Force and American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society. She has a long association with the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Child Health and Development, participating on review panels and committees, and conducting ongoing research.

Dr. D’Alton has written and contributed to more than 175 publications. She co-authored Fetology, awarded the 2001 Association of American Publishers Award for Best Textbook in Clinical Medicine. She is co-editor of Seminars in Perinatology and has served on the Editorial Board of the ACOG’s Obstetrics and Gynecology.
