Description:

Our church is a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches of Canada. Our congregation is made up of Arabic speaking peoples from the Middle East, currently approximately 7 different countries. Our mission is to reach out to the Arabic speaking peoples of Calgary.

Our goal is to glorify God by:

  • promoting spiritual growth of Arabic speaking Christian believers.
  • leading these believers to a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and equipping them for ministry amongst Arabic speaking peoples in Calgary and around the world.

Our pastor must be a man of God with a passion to equip and lead our church to fulfill the vision and goals of our church. He must be able to work with the board of Elders, developing a leadership team that will continually seek God’s leading and direction for our church.

General Requirements:

  • A graduate of an accredited Theological School
  • Can be accredited as an Official Worker with the C&MA of Canada
  • Demonstrates a clear call to Pastoral Ministry
  • Able to give overall spiritual leadership to the church at the direction of the Board of Elders
  • Be Arabic speaking; an excellent knowledge of English would be an asset
  • Able to understand the dynamics of immigrant and 2nd and 3rd generation Canadian cross-cultural ministry

Accountability:

  • In conscience, answerable to the Lord Jesus Christ
  • Denominationally, answerable to the Superintendent of the Western Canadian District of the C&MA
  • Locally, answerable to the Board of Elders and the local congregation

Main Function:

  • To give oversight to the total work of the church

Ministry Goal:

  • To make sure that every person who chooses to call The Arabic Christian Church of Calgary, his/her spiritual home is provided with:
  • A clear presentation of the Gospel
  • A loving opportunity to accept the Gospel
  • Relevant instruction in obeying the Gospel
  • An ample opportunity to serve the Lord Jesus in the fellowship of His church

Specific Duties:

Ministry of the Word of God:

  • provide regular pulpit preaching and teaching that is soundly based on the Bible, relevant to every day living and challenges believers to a deeper relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ
  • in accordance with his office as Pastor, he shall sit on all boards and committees
  • he shall ensure that all persons in youth and children ministry, whether staff or volunteer, have the appropriate police check and attend a “Plan to Protect” program, in conformance with the policies of the C&MA

Visitation and Pastoral Care:

  • visitation is a vital ministry over which he shall give oversight as able
  • he shall give primary personal involvement to hospital, crises, and concern visitation
  • counselling ministry shall be considered a secondary priority. It must not infringe upon time necessary for preaching and teaching preparation. Given the language and cultural issues involved in our church, the pastor may be initially involved, but must have the freedom to delegate the more time consuming and difficult issues to a professional counsellor.

Evangelism and Missions:

  • evangelism and discipleship shall be considered vital ministries over which he shall give general oversight.
  • with the Board of Elders, structure and develop ministries for corporate and individual outreach.
  • promote a vision for “Missions” both within the Alliance and other denominations with the similar interests.
  • to encourage our church about the “BIG” picture of what God is doing in our world, by holding a Missions conference or Mission Sundays, as directed by the Board of Elders.

Long Range Planning:

  • he shall work to develop long-term objectives and goals and lead and motivate the congregation to work to attaining them.

Working Relationship:

  • as a member of the Board of Elders, the pastor is charged with the day to day activities of the Church. He must report these activities at the monthly board meeting.
  • with the participation of the Elders, he will:
  • serve communion
  • pray and lay on of hands for commissioning of workers
  • anointing and praying for the healing and deliverance of the sick
  • lead the church to full maturity and unity in the Body of Christ
  • as a registered member of the Clergy, in the Province of Alberta, he will officiate baptisms, weddings, child dedications, reception of members and funerals

Denominational Obligations:

  • with their spouse, attend annually the District Pastor’s Prayer Retreat for a time of refreshing and encouragement with fellow pastors and spouses.
  • every two years, as an official worker, with lay delegates of the church, attend the District Conference fo the Western District to deal with the business of the Western District. And from time to time elect the District Superintendent.
  • every four years, as an official worker, with lay delegates, attend the National Assembly of the C&MA of Canada, to deal with the national business of the C&MA of Canada and from time to time elect the President of the C&MA of Canada.
