Transportation

GUTS

One of Georgetown's greatest strengths is its location in the nation's capital. The university provides free shuttles from Main Campus to nearby Metro stations and to the Law Center campus on Capitol Hill. Washington's Metro subway and bus system provides convenient and inexpensive transportation within the Washington metropolitan area, including service to the nearby suburbs of Maryland and Virginia.

Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS)

Georgetown University offers shuttle services for students, faculty, staff and visitors traveling to and from the university campus and nearby Metrorail stations. The Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS) operates five weekday shuttle routes from 5 a.m. – 12 a.m. daily, connecting the Main and Medical Center Campuses to the following locations:

Students, faculty and staff may ride on any GUTS route at no charge with a valid Georgetown University ID card. Georgetown University Hospital physicians, staff and patients may ride the Rosslyn and Dupont shuttles for free with a valid ID. Visitors to the campus may also ride free of charge by showing a picture ID at the time of boarding. Buses with wheelchair lifts are available on all GUTS routes.

The university uses a biodiesel blend for it's fleet of GUTS buses as part of its goal to reduce Georgetown's carbon footprint by 50 percent by 2020.

Contact the Office of Transportation Management (OTM) at 202-687-4372 for additional information.

Airports

Three airports provide service to the Washington, D.C. area.

Reagan-Washington National Airport (DCA) is the closest airport to the Georgetown campus and has its own Metro subway stop.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is about 40 miles north of campus and has commercial shuttle vans and taxi service to the Washington area. BWI also has a free connector bus that serves the MARC Commuter Rail and Amtrak station, which provides train service to Washington's Union Station, located on the Metro’s Red Line. The B30 bus line also runs every forty minutes from BWI Airport to the Greenbelt Metro Station, which is on the Green Line.

Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located approximately 25 miles west of Washington and can be reached by shuttle van, taxi or using airport van service between the airport and the West Falls Church Metro Station, which is on the Orange Line. Metro also runs the 5A bus line from Rosslyn metro station (Orange/Blue lines) to Dulles Airport.

Car Sharing

Zipcar provides on-demand, self-service cars by the hour or the day for personal and business needs. The low hourly and daily rates include gas, insurance, maintenance and parking. Zipcar also offers Georgetown students a half-price membership. Learn more about the Zipcar discount.

Parking on Campus

Parking at Georgetown is very limited, but there are some locations to park on campus. The entrance off of Canal Road, N.W. leads to the Southwest Garage.

Call (202) 687-4372 for more detailed parking information. As off-campus (street) parking is hard to find in the Georgetown area, the use of public transportation is strongly encouraged when visiting the university.
