Australia's interest rates may be at record lows, but they're way higher than elsewhere
It means money continues to pour in. It also means the Australian Dollar is higher than it would otherwise be (for now at least), and is ultimately why the RBA is thinking about rate cuts, in the teeth of runaway housing markets in the biggest cities.
While all this may be a headache for the Reserve Bank, the financial markets are taking advantage.

In 1974, Arthur Laffer sketched his theory of tax policy over dinner with Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney, then young officials in the Ford administration. That theory on a napkin became known as a the 'Laffer curve'.
In simple terms at a zero tax rate, everyone works but the Government has no revenue; at a tax rate of 100 percent no-one works and the Government still gets no revenue.
Laffer's back-of-the-napkin theory is that the optimal tax rate for taxpayers and Government is definitely on the low side.
Dr Arthur Laffer speaks to Ticky.

As usual we're pitting the professionals against high school students and just to make it a bit tougher we've also invited a fourth year honours economics student to have his say.
