Clive Palmer denies his political party is in chaos, despite the overnight resignation of his senate leader Glenn Lazarus. Senator Lazarus has quit Palmer United, but is still able to serve out five more years in the Upper House. He is the latest in a string of people to quit and it means just one Senator is left in the Palmer Senate bloc that originally had four members. More

The Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion denies he's at odds with the Prime Minister over the future of remote communities in Western Australia. The Federal Opposition says Tony Abbott and Senator Scullion are sending mixed messages about the proposed closure of up to 150 communities. But Nigel Scullion says that's nonsense and he's again stressed that the future of remote communities is a matter for the WA government. More

Will an advisory body appointed by the Australasian College of Surgeons to look into claims of sexism, bullying and harrassment be enough to change the system's alleged toxic culture? TPG has announced it wants to gobble-up internet and phone provider iiNet. The potential deal between the nation's third and fourth largest telco companies has been valued at $1.4 billion dollars - not bad for iiNet, a company that began in a garage in Perth. Some analysts say it'll create the 'ultimate' telephone and internet company that has low prices and well-managed customer service. Others though argue the proposed takeover will give TPG greater market power and consumers will ultimately pay higher prices. More

A group representing victims of child sexual abuse has criticised the royal commission over its latest public hearing into out of home care, saying survivors should have been given the opportunity to tell their stories to the public gallery. Agricultural groups are calling on the Government to do more to break down what are known as technical barriers to trade. Groups like the Dairy Industry Council and Cherry Growers Australia say difficulty with quarantine inspections, or transport and storage can pose significant costs to exporters. The Trade Minister Andrew Robb acknowledges it's a problem in some markets, but says the government's already working to address industry concerns. He says a WTO agreement due to come into force this year should also help. More

Across the US there's been widespread condemnation of the shooting of two police in the racially troubled Missouri city of Ferguson. The nation's top lawyer and the local police chief call it an 'ambush' of the officers, who'd been on guard outside the Ferguson police station. The family of Michael Brown - the unarmed man who was killed by police last year - says the shooting doesn't support 'in any way' their calls for justice. Activists and local politicians are now concerned that the incident will overshadow attempts to reform the city. A warning, this report contains strong language. More

Iraqi security agents who've infiltrated the Islamic State group are being called on to help confirm the suicide bombing death of Melbourne teenager Jake Bilardi. But the Iraqi ambassador in Canberra, Mouayed Saleh, says there is still no firm evidence, apart from the announcement made by the militants. More

One of the investigators of the Fukushima nuclear disaster is warning Australia to carefully consider the risks of the industry before getting involved in it. A royal commission looking at expanding South Australia's role in the nuclear industry will begin next week. Professor Nobumasa Akiyama says the Japanese people underestimated the risk and he's warning South Australia not to make the same mistake. Despite the disaster, he still believes there is a role for nuclear in he world's energy future. More

New data has revealed the leading causes of death in Australia. For those over 45 years it is chronic disease, but for Australians aged between 15 - 44, suicide is the leading cause of death. Crisis support and suicide prevention charity Lifeline says stigma remains a challenge and are working to half the suicide rate in the next decade. More

A Volcano that erupted about 1000km north of New Zealand has released pumice that has been washing up on beaches on Australia's East Coast. The Pumice has been found as far north as Queensland and as far south as Tasmania. Now scientists from Tasmania are sailing to the site of the eruption to study the volcano. More
