ART X *NORTH

Screen Territory and ABC Arts Online Callout for new Documentary Filmmakers

Northern Territory filmmakers will have the opportunity to create a documentary on an NT-based visual artist for ABC Arts Online as part of a new joint initiative, Art X *North.

Screen Territory, in partnership with ABC Arts, is calling for applications from Territory-based Producer-Director teams to produce five minute arts-related documentaries for ABC Arts Onlines Art X *North.

Art X *North is the second series in ABC Arts Onlines ongoing short documentary initiative. Art X *West premiered on ABC iview and abc.net.au/arts in August 2014 and showcased the up-and-coming talent in Western Australias documentary filmmaking community.

For Art X *North, up to three teams will be selected to each produce and deliver a short form documentary (up to five minutes) profiling the work of a resident Northern Territory artist to be shown on ABC Arts Online.

The successful Producer-Director teams will be invited to nominate the Northern Territory artists they would most like to profile from a short-list of names pre-selected by ABC Arts. Screen Territory and the ABC will then allocate subjects to the teams.

Screen Territory and the ABC have appointed Danielle MacLean (Producer Croker Island Exodus, Director Blown Away) to mentor the selected Producer-Director teams.

Successful applicants will each receive a $2000 ABC Online licence fee along with an $8000 grant from Screen Territory to fund their project. They will also receive support and mentoring from Danielle MacLean, as well as reasonable post-production facilities from the ABC for online edit, grade and mastering and sound post to complete their project.

Screen Territory Director, Penelope McDonald says, Screen Territory is excited to partner with ABC Arts Online to create this opportunity for the Territorys up and coming filmmakers and to showcase some of the Territorys most exciting artistic talents.

As well as celebrating the Territorys wealth of creative talent, the initiative provides a fast-paced platform for young filmmakers to tell local stories about local artists in new and interesting ways.

Director ABC Northern Territory, Christopher Smyth says, ABC Northern Territory is proud to support the Art X *North initiative. Art X *North will see Territory-based artists and filmmakers collaborating on the production of some truly innovative documentaries.

Australias Northern Territory has a rich and unique history of cultural expression through the visual and performing arts and an exciting, emerging independent film and television production industry. Art X *North brings both artist and filmmaker together to offer audiences some fresh perspectives on the diverse artistic landscape of the Northern Territory and a new way to engage with it.

Producer-Director teams must be available to produce the documentary between Tuesday, 27 January and Friday, 20 March 2015.

The documentaries will premiere on ABC Arts Online in April 2015.
