Sharing the Performing Arts with People who have Low Vision or are Blind

TDF believes that the arts should be shared with everyone, including those with vision loss. For theatregoers who have low vision or are blind, TDF’s Accessibility Program (TAP) provides audio description services at select Broadway performances. Audio description allows the theatre lover who is blind or has low vision, to enjoy a live performance with their loved ones.

Who's Eligible?


There is no annual fee, but you must provide proof of eligibility in order to take advantage of TAP’s vision loss program. Anyone who is blind or has low vision, or may benefit from audio-description services as the result of a documented physical limitation is eligible to apply for TDF Accessibility Membership.

Services Available To TAP Members with Vision Loss


Audio Description at Select Performances

For theatregoers who are blind or have moderate to severe vision loss, TAP provides a specially trained describer who verbalizes what's happening on stage during pauses in dialogue. The describer uses a headset microphone, while individuals using the service listen through a receiver with a single earpiece.

Tickets Will Be Mailed, With The Exception Of Occasional E-Ticket Offers, In Which Case You Will Be Instructed To Pick Tickets Up At The Box Office.

Access for Young Audiences

TAP reaches out to school groups of young theatregoers who are blind or have low vision, by providing in-class workshops, and sending them to special audio-described  performances of Broadway shows. Learn more about Access for Young Audiences (AYA).
