The Buzz: Chances are Trick 'r Treat director Michael Dougherty has another cult hit on his hands at the very least with this holiday horror story, which is only rated PG-13, sadly. Of course that might mean a more explicit version is waiting in the DVD/Blu-ray wings?
Chi-Raq (2015)- Drama
A modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, set against the backdrop of gang violence in Chicago.
Director:Spike Lee |

The Buzz: Spike Lee's latest serves to open up a greater dialogue about issues that the current national media typically passes over. The film's themes hit especially hard for star Jennifer Hudson, who lost three family members to gun violence in 2008. Chi-Raq also marks the return of the great Dave Chappelle, albeit in a small, but notable role. - Chako Suzuki

The Buzz: Looks like a finely tuned release is in store for this hagiography that seems to be a campaign for Mother Teresa posthumous canonization as it steers clear of all of the controversial aspects of her life and work.
Macbeth (2015)- Drama | War
Macbeth, a Thane of Scotland, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders his king and takes the throne for himself.
Director:Justin Kurzel |
|

The Buzz: We hear this film's style threatens to overwhelm its substance at any and every moment, and that's one of many reasons we've been driven mad with anticipation for Justin Kurzel's follow-up to Snowtown.
Youth (2015)- Drama
A retired orchestra conductor is on holiday with his daughter and his film director best friend in the Alps when he receives an invitation from Queen Elizabeth II to perform for Prince Philip's birthday.

|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Here's a charming buddy movie, framed around two seventysomethings and filmed in the lush Swiss Alps, that takes a wistful spin at career, friendship, family, legacy, and growing old. Michael Caine stars as a retired composer summoned to perform for the Queen, and Harvey Keitel plays his best friend, a film director attempting to put the finishing touches on a screenplay for what will be his last great film. This opus, which has already been well-received in Europe, is the second English-language movie for award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino. - Bret Federigan

The Buzz: Underrated director Julian Jarrold has assembled one of the more appealing casts of the year for what seems to be a feather-light but imminently watchable slice of royal-girl fantasy. congratulations to star Bel Powley for her breakout year with The Diary of a Teenage Girl, a performance for which she just won a Gotham Award.
Kawaki (2014)- Crime | Drama | Horror | Mystery
As former detective Akikazu searches for his missing daughter, Kanako, he soon learns she has a mysterious secret life.
Director:Tetsuya Nakashima |
|
The Buzz: Apparently Tetsuya Nakashima's take on Akio Fukamachi's novel is a brutal endurance test anchored by Koji Yakusho's performance as a broken former police detective who returns to action after a triple murder and the disappearance of his estranged daughter. In fact, we understand Yakusho's character is the only thing that keeps the viewer from falling into an abyss. In other words: Kanako has been up to some particularly nasty business.
Life (2015)- Biography | Drama
A photographer for Life Magazine is assigned to shoot pictures of James Dean.
Director:Anton Corbijn |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: This biographical drama chronicles the story behind the 1955 LIFE magazine photo shoot by Dennis Stock of then-rising star, James Dean. This flick gives us an inside look at some of Hollywood's most iconic images and into the life of a gifted, yet troubled-actor's life. directed by Anton Corbijn, it follows the friendship between Dean, who is played by Dane DeHaan and Stock who is portrayed by Robert Pattinson. For Pattinson, this might just be the flick that will finally make everyone forget about Twilight (even though it will always have a special place in my heart)! - Shara Angell

Director:Mitch Davis |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Holiday-themed movies haven't caught on with audiences yet this season, so we're unsure how this ensemble comedy will perform, though it seems to be made for Faith audiences but marketed as a movie for one and all. No matter the subject matter, we love that Patrick Stewart has been spending time on the big and small screens this year, though.
MI-5 (2015)- Action | Drama | Thriller
When a terrorist escapes custody during a routine handover, Will Holloway must team with disgraced MI5 Intelligence Chief Harry Pearce to track him down before an imminent terrorist attack on London.

Jennifer Ehle also has a lead role in the film, though you wouldn't know that from the marketing.
