How Jennifer Lawrence’s Essay Changed Hollywood

Jennifer Lawrence’s essay on the gender pay gap in Hollywood didn’t just make headlines — it made real change.

Producer Celine Rattray pointed to the essay as a major agent for change during Variety and Kering’s Women in Motion talk at the Cannes Film Festival. Her fellow panelists heartily agreed.

“Just for context, when we started the research four years ago, the number one obstacle was lack of awareness of the problem,” added Sundance Institute executive director Keri Putnam.

It made an impact on the agency level too, said Rena Ronson, partner and head of UTA Independent Film Group.

“It serves us all well,” she said. “It’s definitely made the change.”
