Cheers: To FWISD Superintendent Dr. Kent Scribner, who congratulated the North Hi Mount Eagle Honor Choir this year at the Junior Achievement Breakfast at the Fort Worth Omni Hotel. Not only did he congratulate them, he took pictures! He also made an appearance at the Arlington Heights High School literacy rally.

Cheers: To the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers for their beautiful display of patriotism at each World Series game. All were standing with their caps over their heart and some were singing while our national anthem was played. And what great games! Fun to watch.

The Fort Worth Zoo’s 26th annual Halloween celebration kicked off Oct. 27. It was one of the many local Halloween-themed events before Christmas took over this week.

Cheers: To Target for placing Thanksgiving “back on the menu.” Because it isn’t a big money-making holiday, Thanksgiving has been skipped over too often. First Halloween, then Christmas! I will hold Target in high esteem for this brilliant decision.

Cheers: To those volunteers who left their families and went to the coast to aid the victims of Hurricane Harvey. I am especially proud of my nephew, who drove from Utah all the way to Beaumont to help and be of service.

Drivers had to be patient during a run on gasoline after Hurricane Harvey. Lines were long at Costco in Lewisville.

San Mateo Church, which was closed by the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth. held its last mass on Nov. 20, 2016.

Jeers: To the Fort Worth Catholic Diocese: San Mateo, the small Catholic church on Lovell Avenue near University Drive, has been closed and fenced off for months, preventing the people from attending church and taking care of the grounds. It is an eyesore from the street and a sad memory for the members who want to take care of their church.

The river flows toward Boquillas Canyon in Big Bend National Park along the Rio Grande on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Cheers: To Gordon Dickson’s fabulous visit to Boquillas del Carmen, Coahuila. Memories flooded back about boat rides, shopping, taquitos, and Corona. It was one of our favorite side trips while camping at Big Bend Ranch. I felt young again.
