Since the majority of the cities sit alongside the coast, Australia is typically thought of as a paradise for beach lovers and international surfers looking to ride some of the biggest and most ferocious waves in the world. But an assortment of entertaining activities, scenic routes, landscapes and jovial Aussie locals makes this part of the
world a memorable experience for just about everyone.
Port Jackson
The scenery in Port Jackson, New South Wales, is exceptionally magnificent just at sunset and at night. You can opt for a Sydney harbor cruise, with boats departing from Darling Harbor and Circular Quay, drive a rental or just use the local public transport to see the city. There are quite a few scenic harbors in the area to check out, such as:
• Fort Denison • Clark Island • Rodd Island • Goat Island
Most of these ports also feature several islands to be explored. Cruise ships and ferry rides are some of the main attractions here. Port Jackson is notorious for being home to the Sydney Opera House and such landmarks as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It's also the location that hosts some of the world's most famous attractions, such as the Hobart yacht competition and the New Year's Eve Fireworks Australia.
Located just around Port Phillip Bay in southeastern Australia, Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, is famous for its unimposing skyscrapers, such as the Eureka Tower and the Rialto Towers. It also showcases many of Australia's famous attractions like The Fitzroy Gardens, the King's Domain, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, the Carlton Gardens, the Royal Melbourne Zoo and the Shrine of Remembrance-the War Memorial.
The Blue Mountains
No Sydney trip would be complete without experiencing the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia; one of the most enchanting and spectacular wilderness preserves in Australia. With one of the coolest climates in the region, the Blue Mountains serve as an ideal refuge for locals and tourists escaping the blistering summer heat. The main natural attractions include:

• Wentworth falls • The Three Sisters
The area is a natural wonder, scattered with small towns and villages made of stone and timber to shop and eat. It has numerous hiking trails and accommodations for mountain biking, abseiling and canoeing The mountains are bathed in magnificence that will dazzle tourists and travelers. They will notice the distinct blue tinge on approach caused by the light reflection off the tiny droplets of oil-like sap from the eucalyptus trees that blanket the rolling slopes and valleys.
With a height well over a thousand meters, the park, which is but a mere hour drive west of Sydney, is a one of the most enchanting natural locations in Australia, and you certainly don't even have to be a nature-lover to appreciate it. The mountain air is crisp, the area is saturated with spectacular cliff faces, lookouts, limestone caves, sandstone valleys and dazzling flora and fauna; gardens that resonate with an array of autumn colors.
It's a place with splendid waterfalls that splash down on large jagged rocks, such as at Wentworth Falls, and a location to shop in little towns and villages made of stone and timber. It has numerous hiking trails and facilities for abseiling, mountain biking and canoeing.
Probably the most photographed feature of the Blue Mountains, located about a mile from the Great Western Highway, near the town of Katoomba, is The Three Sisters rock formation. Meehni, Wimlah and Gunnedoo are the three jagged rock faces that tower over the Jamison Valley, surrounded by cliffs, all of which were formed by wind, rain and rivers over a long period of erosion that gradually enlarged them over time by forming huge indentations.
Local legend has it that the three sisters all fell in love with men from a different tribe, but marriage between them was forbidden by tribal law. A tribal war ensured, so the sisters were turned into stone by a Shaman for protection, but the elder was killed in battle and no one could turn the sisters back. There are other legends that have different variations.
A bushwalking path leads to the Three Sisters from Echo Point. Looking out at the Three Sisters from the Echo Point platform, the path is to the left. The path leads to one of the “sisters” where lots of tourists are urged to follow. The dead-end path also leads to the Giant Staircase, which consists of more than eight hundred stone and steel steps that lead to the Valley below, where you'll enter Katoomba Falls and the Scenic Railway.
Those who choose not to take the rigorous climb back up can take the railway back up for a fee. The park is open from Monday to Sunday, between 9am - 5pm.
