Sir David Frost - a profile

Landmark interviews have always been a feature of Sir David's remarkable career. Among the many world figures he has interviewed are the six most recent British Prime Ministers; the six most recent Presidents of the United States and many others outside the world of politics, including Muhammad Ali and the Beatles.

Sir David Frost has been in the front line of televison news and entertainment for nearly 40 years.

He began presenting TV programmes when he was still an undergraduate at Cambridge and has hosted top-rated shows on both sides of the Atlantic ever since.

That Was The Week That Was was a groundbreaking satirical programme which was screened by the BBC in 1962-63.

Politicians regularly complained to BBC management that they were being ridiculed by David Frost and his team. But the programme gained a massive following and soon achieved cult status.

The Frost Report with John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett, followed in 1966 as did the Frost Programme. This was the first current affairs programme to use a participating audience. A variety of interview-based programmes followed. Recorded primarily in the UK and America, they were broadcast all round the world.

Interviewees from the world of showbiz included the Beatles, Mick Jagger, Orson Welles, Tenessee Williams and Noel Coward.

Prince Charles was interviewed on the eve of his investiture as Prince of Wales.

Muhammad Ali was interviewed... in New York and later in Zaire. Cardinal Heenan came into the studio. Abbie Hoffman and the Yippies took over during a live show.

The Nixon interviews with David Frost, recorded after Watergate and the Presidents humiliating resignation, achieved the largest audience for a news interview in history.

The Sunday morning tradition began in 1984 with the TV-am programme Frost on Sunday.

David Frost has written 15 books, produced eight films and has - over the years- received just about all the major TV awards there are both in the UK and the US as well as internationally.

He has been married to Carina for 17 years. They have three sons.
