Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull intends to call a party room meeting at midday on Friday, if he sees a petition with a majority of MPs supporting Peter Dutton.
If his opponents produce the goods, he won't stand and will quit Parliament, setting up a three-way contest between Peter Dutton, Treasurer Scott Morrison, and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.
