Sister Cities Delegation to visit Ashgabat from Albuquerque, New Mexico

Members of a delegation representing the Albuquerque, New Mexico chapter of the Sister Cities program will visit Turkmenistan from May 21-27 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ashgabat-Albuquerque Sister Cities Program, as well as the “Day of Ashgabat” holiday on May 25.

The delegation will meet with local officials, university students, and representatives of other cultural and scientific institutions in Ashgabat and Mary in order to strengthen the Ashgabat-Albuquerque Sister Cities partnership. Members of the delegation will also give a presentation on the Sister Cities program at the Embassy’s Information Resource Center on Thursday, May 21 at 17:00. This presentation will be free and open to the public.

The program is sponsored by Sister Cities International, a non-profit, citizen diplomacy network that aims to develop partnerships between U.S. and international communities to increase global cooperation.  Since the establishment of the Ashgabat-Albuquerque Sister Cities (AASCC) program in 1990, the U.S. Government has supported several exchange programs between the two cities.
