Making the most of customer data

Making the most of customer data

Thanks to advances in helicopter technology, more data is being collected from each flight and maintenance procedure than ever before. This data has enormous potential to change the way operators support and maintain their helicopter fleet.

Airbus Helicopters offers a range of connected services solutions that help customers collect and make sense of their data. Benefits range from a better understanding of day-to-day operations, to predicting what unplanned maintenance issues might happen months from now. When data drives decision making, the result is more time flying, in the safest conditions, and cost-effectively.

A connected ecosystem

Airbus Helicopters' connected services enable operators to:

Digitise their daily operations through a full digital chain, with offers such as Fleet Keeper, (which replaces hardcopy logbooks and digital logcards), or Fleet Master - our maintenance information system. This brings greater accuracy and traceability and provides a wealth of data with which Airbus can perform analytics to and develop predictive maintenance algorithms.

Collect and connect this data to a global database, which is searchable and accessible at all times, available anytime, and where Airbus can provide analytics services. Today more than 1,000 helicopters are connected and sharing their data with Airbus. By 2023, Airbus aims to have 3,000 helicopters connected, a number that represents a significant portion of its modern fleet.

Make sense of this data with analytics. Sometimes the simplest analytics can provide great value, while more sophisticated algorithms are already in use with predictive maintenance programmes such as FlyScan. The more helicopters connected, the richer the database becomes and the smarter and more precise the analytics.

Improve e-commerce and deliver the maximum number of services through the new AirbusWorld collaborative customer portal.

Airbus Helicopters' connected services enable operators to digitise their daily operations through a full digital chain, to collect and connect this data to a global database, and to build analytics to support data-driven decision making.

The Connected Services offer

Airbus' Connected Services leverage operational in-service and maintenance data to optimise existing services and to improve profitability and mission performance.

The smart interpretation of maintenance data can reduce costs and improve processes, such as on-time spare parts delivery, maintenance and logistics optimisation, and rotorcraft availability.

Discover some examples of applications and software that can support the digitisation of your operations.

These services help operators easily access and visualise their fleet data, creating the foundation for a detailed analysis of their flight activity while simplifying operations.

Through applications, data-as-a-service, and digital interfaces that ensure traceability, accuracy, and time savings, Airbus Helicopters puts data management to work for customers.

Digital Logcard

Logcards trace the entire maintenance history of a single aircraft component, from its manufacture throughout its in-service life. Replacing traditional hard copy logcards, their digital counterparts store maintenance information on a secure cloud-based system.

In March 2019, Airbus introduced digital logcards for its entire fleet, becoming the first manufacturer to do so. Preserving the existing logcard template, the digital version uses the same process and personnel roles and responsibilities as its former embodiment, so operators undergo no additional workload or training.

Digitising logcard data ensures better traceability, with all information in one secure place; more accurate data, with fewer errors due to manual transcription; time savings when data automatically enters a system; better compliance and productivity, as logcards are updated in real time; and the ability to use the data in data analytics.

Leveraging its numeric possibilities, the digital logcard software includes additional features that are not possible with paper versions, including the ability to attach documents, archive, search, and immediately transfer a suite of logcards. Future applications may include synchronising digital logcard data with operators’ maintenance information systems (MIS).

Flight Planner is an all-in-one electronic flight bag available in an iOS version or built into a Panasonic Touchpad tablet, and is ready for the most demanding missions and environments. It integrates performance and weight and balance calculations with additional flight planning solutions, including map displays, weather, airport information and NOTAM (notice to airmen) details. Flight Planner also offers a direct and seamless wireless connection to Airbus flight management systems (FMS).

Flight Perfo

The Airbus Helicopters Flight Performance application computes all aspects of flight manual’s performance figures in one, single mobile application. This iOS stand-alone application can be uploaded from the AppStore according to operator needs.

The Airbus Helicopters Weight & Balance application allows customers to ensure that safe operational limits are respected by computing the weight and balance of an aircraft, taking into account the specific mission profile, payload and optional equipment on the helicopter. This iOS stand-alone application can also be uploaded from the AppStore according to operator needs

All three applications are pre-loaded with OEM data sources, maximising the reliability of the related calculations.

Fleet Keeper®

Fleet Keeper®, developed by Airbus, is a complete e-solution that builds upon traditional hardcopy-based technical logbooks – providing simplified processes and unmatched convenience.

As a role-based solution, Fleet Keeper® delivers cockpit views of a customer’s fleet status, and enables real-time data exchange between pilots, line mechanics and airworthiness managers. It is compatible with all Airbus rotorcraft models, as well as those of other manufacturers.

Fleet Keeper® combines a user-friendly mobile and web application for tablets, and is hosted in a secure cloud-based solution.

In July 2016, Fleet Keeper® was approved by the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) to completely replace the hardcopy technical logbook within Airbus’ helicopter airworthiness organisation. This important milestone signifies that Fleet Keeper® is a deployable tool ready to replace operators’ hardcopy technical logbooks.

Flight Analyser - HFDM

Flight Analyser is an analytics service that supports operational safety by analysing aircraft data post-flight, to identify risks occurred during the flight.

The software analyses the data generated by a number of on-board sources as installed on the aircraft (such as ISEI Helicom system, Appareo Vision 1,000 flight data recorder, Outerlink IRIS data recorder), to automatically detect situations that could have been safer or could have potentially led to an incident or accident.

The system augments this data with weather data and environmental context, such as sky coverage and obstacles present at the time of the potential event, to provide the user with the most complete picture possible.

It also performs a confidence check for each event, assessing the reliability of the data.

Flight Analyser users are given access to dashboards, that are updated post-flight. The output can be used by an organisation’s safety management system to support future decision-making.

The service is available for all operators and can be accessed via the customer’s personal space on Airbus’ collaborative platform AirbusWorld.

Customer data analytics

Airbus Helicopters data analytics service enables customers to identify avenues of possible improvement by using information from areas such as their flight and maintenance operations, mapped against global fleet-wide data.

Customers can then monitor and see their performance through a personalised data dashboard, and access automated key performance indicators to control operations, conduct business simulations, and prepare smarter forecasts and plans.

All analytics proposed to operators are based on worldwide data collection gathered from operator systems, or directly from the helicopters, through a series of applications, software and airborne boxes. Airbus proposes analytics in fields like safety airworthiness, flight operations or maintenance.

Airworthiness: The analytics services streamline fleet availability and component reliability by analysing the root causes of unserviceable aircraft, or component removals.

Flight operations: Through the analysis of an aircraft’s Helicopter Flight Data Monitoring, for instance, Airbus assists operators in identifying their exposure to risks in flight.

Maintenance: In-depth analysis of a fleet’s data keeps costs to a minimum, with improved stocks and parts forecasts, the identification of reliability issues, and the implementation of corrective actions. Better anticipation of maintenance needs thanks to the with the use of systems, such as Flyscan predicting maintenance actionsneeds. such as FlyScan.
