Responsible sourcing across the supply chain
A company’s environmental and social impact is intricately linked to its supply chain. At Airbus, we focus on integrating high standards of responsibility throughout our operations to foster a sustainable supply chain. This includes working to manage natural and human resources in a responsible way at every step of the production process.
Approximately 8,000 direct and 18,000 indirect suppliers from more than 100 countries supply parts, components, systems and services to Airbus. This vast, global supplier network makes major contributions to value creation, economic prosperity and sustainable development in the communities in which they operate. Our suppliers thus have a significant impact on our sustainability performance.
To mitigate risk within our supply chain, we require our suppliers to meet the same environmental and social responsibility standards that we set for ourselves. These standards are clearly outlined in our Supplier Code of Conduct.
In the aerospace industry, over 1,700 substances are under regulatory control. These include surface treatments and materials such as paints, sealants, fire protection and cleaners. We expect our suppliers to comply with all regulations that relate to the safe handling of regulated substances, and to find suitable replacements for those that have been banned from use. In this area, we are guided by the following regulations:
- REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)
- TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act)
- F-GHG (Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases)
- ODS (Ozone-Depleting Substances)
