Initial Type Rating

The Initial Type Rating provides knowledge and proficiency to acquire a first type rating on a new helicopter group, for either Single-engine Turbine or Multi-engine Turbine Helicopter.

PREQUESITES

APPLICANTS MUST

  • Hold a valid ATPL, CPL, or PPL
  • Hold a valid medical certificate
  • Be able to prove a minimum experience of 5 flight hours as a helicopter Pilot in
    Command (PIC) within the last 12 months


  • (Note: Additional prerequisites could be required according to aircraft type)

  • Limitations
  • Performances
  • Flight planning and monitoring
  • Normal and emergency procedures
  • PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION: Simulator OR/AND Flight instruction

    On Single-engine:
    Flight training consists of normal and emergency procedures including hydraulics-off landings, full or power recovery autorotation and governor failure procedures (when applicable).

    On Multi-engine:
    Flight training consists of normal and emergency procedures including systems failure, tail rotor control failure, power recovery autorotation, major governor failure, engine failure during take-off, landing and level fight.

    All course duration in the syllabi is indicative and subject to change according to the trainees’ experience and regulations.

    Important note: IFR extensions may be provided in addition to the initial type rating

    SKILLS TEST

    The practical instruction is generally followed by a type rating skills test in compliance with the training syllabus. The applicant should demonstrate the required skills for the safe operation of the applicable type of helicopter.

    CERTIFICATE

    After successful course completion, the trainee will be awarded a PART FCL certificate of approved training for the type rating.
