The programme takes place during a school year with two key events:

In Mobile, the Flying Challenge focuses on team mentoring (2 mentors: 3-4 mentees) with weekly 50-minute sessions in which mentors and mentees focus on character development and STEM activities.

Other projects of the Airbus Foundation

Learning through science

Since 2011, the Airbus Foundation has supported the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center in introducing and developing its ExploreAIR programme. The aim of the programme is to ignite curiosity in science, maths and technology, and to inspire youngsters to consider careers in aeronautics through an aviation science programme, summer camp and Principles of Flight workshops. More than 42,000 visitors of all ages, including approximately 30,000 children, benefit from the Exploreum’s curriculum-relevant exhibits, laboratory and classroom. A total of 120 Airbus employees have volunteered their time to help the programme.

  • 66 students from 9 to 11 years old benefited from the 1st edition of the Flying Challenge in Itajuba in 2018.
  • 25 Airbus employees have been involved in the programme since its launched in 2018.

The programme, which is focused on students aged of 9-11, consists of a structured educational program including mentoring in Mathematics, Portuguese, social behavior presentations, relevant visits with the support of a Psychologist and Speech therapist.

Opening ceremony

Alignment meetings: Took place between the mentors before every sessions, with school professors and parents.

Mentoring sessions every week

Award ceremony : During the closing event each children was rewarded with a gift. The 3 best performing students of each class were awarded with a trip to Rio de Janeiro for a flight in Helibras H225M simulator. It was a unique experience for all of the children and their families knowing Rio for the first time.
