Watch: Grand Ledge holds St. Patrick’s Day parade

Residents of Grand Ledge and the surrounding areas came out on Saturday afternoon to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a parade and other festivities. The parade, sponsored by the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Association, began at 2:00 p.m. in downtown Grand Ledge.

Grand Ledge reacts to high school bomb threats

A bomb threat at Grand Ledge High School, coupled with similar threats made against surrounding area schools, resulted in multiple active Shelter-in-Place and evacuation situations within the last two weeks. On Tuesday, Feb. 20, students and staff at the high school in Grand Ledge sheltered-in-place after reports of a bomb threat reached the school’s administration. The threat was found written on a bathroom wall. Grand Ledge High School sophomore Anne-Marie Latourette said the school entered into the Shelter-in-Place while she was in her second-hour class period.

Community remembrance in Grand Ledge makes beautiful attraction

Grand Ledge has offered a unique way to memorialize and honor loved ones in their community for years. Every April, the Grand Ledge garden club works with people in the area to sell geraniums, memorial plaques, and trees in honor of Grand Ledge residents. The purchase includes the tree, the planting, one year of maintenance, and insurance. “Memorializing a loved one really helps a family celebrate that life,” said Andrea Bregg, the manager and funeral director at McCabe’s Funeral Home. “You realize how fast time goes and I think it can really help the grieving process.

Jaycee and Oak parks to undergo expansions in near future

Two of Grand Ledge’s most well-known parks are getting a makeover. Starting this construction season, Jaycee Park and Oak Park will be undergoing expansions. The motion was brought forward at the April 11 City Council meeting. The additions will be made to fit the needs of the community, according to City Administrator Adam Smith. “The acquisition will provide for the expansion of Jaycee Park and enhance a connector trail for the existing river walk and new non-motorized trail facility,” said Smith.

Grand Ledge Library undergoing renovations to help fit community needs

After years of saving and carefully well-thought-out plans based on community needs, The Grand Ledge Area District Library will be undergoing a massive renovation to start this spring. “By very prudently saving we saved a percentage that was over our working capital that we needed for many, many years, said Grand Ledge Library Board of Trustees President Joan Kane. “Back in ’08 we tried to do this and had our same architect then realized we didn’t have enough money to do what we needed to do.”

“With the new renovation we will be pushing the entrance out. There will be an elevator that will go up to the club room which is the old 1931 building,” said Kane. “There will be a bathroom upstairs now, which there never has been.
