1) Closed borders
2) No freedom of movement inside the borders
3) No private property
4) No private initiative
5) Total censorship of external media
6) Enforced “proper look” of people on the street, and so on.

2) so assuming fleet engagements do not matter, what would be the move? Send troops to Taiwan? No time, they will be sunk on approach as China will already control the island by that time. Blockade Europe so they don’t trade with China? I hate to break it to you, limey, but Europeans want to trade with China BADLY. I have been in Russia before collapse of USSR , during 90 ‘s once and 2018 huge improvement even comparing to Soviet times . The Russian aerospace industry went into a big contraction post-USSR. The military aviation component continued fairly well, even during the worst years of the 1990s—mainly due to demand for Russian fighter aircraft from India, China and others.

Many got real sweetheart deals during this time, and China did quite a bit of IP lifting, simply starting to knock off Sukhoi ‘Flankers’ without permission or licensing. [They tried the same with the engines, but are still working on it.]

In the space industry something similar happened in the post-Soviet meltdown of the 1990s. The Chinese were able to buy their entire manned space program from the Russians in the 1990s—for a song. See the Shenzhou program.

In March 1995 a deal was signed to transfer manned spacecraft technology to China, Included in the agreement were training of cosmonauts, provision of Soyuz spacecraft capsules and life support systems, androgynous docking systems, and space suits.

Besides this, the Russians sold the Chinese some advanced rocket engines, the RD120, which uses the Russian-invented ‘staged combustion’ cycle that is now trying to be copied by SpaceX [Raptor engine] and Blue Origin [BE4].

These advanced engines are the KEY to any modern space program. The engine of a rocket is as key as the engine of a car is to the automobile, or the airplane. It is the beating heart of the whole thing.

The Chinese then got to work and built their own staged-combustion knockoff of the RD120—that being the YF100 which is now the workhorse of the impressive Chinese space program.

The development required ten years of research, requiring the mastering of 70 key technologies, the development of 50 new materials, and the construction of 61 sets of engines with a combined total of more than 40,000 seconds of ignition time by 2013.

But the Chinese got it done! And now this engine is the workhorse for all these impressive launches we have seen—space station, moon sample return, mars rover etc.

The US likewise got in on the ground floor of the post-USSR aerospace fire sale in the 1990s. They got the RD180 engine, which is the current workhorse for Nasa and the National Security Space Launch program, which is now part of the new US Space Force.

[I detailed already in another thread how this engine is key to all the US mars missions and other key launches for which SpaceX, despite all the media hoopla, is not even a minor player at this point.]

But despite having a technology transfer from Russia on the TEN key engine technologies, plus a license to build them, the US still to this day has not flown a single staged-cycle, high performance engine [which the Russians invented back in the 1960s]. Both the Raptor and BE4, which is supposed to take over for the RD180, have not yet flown into space.

So at this point, and starting with the same Russian technology, the Chinese have jumped ahead of the US in engine technology.

Another key technology transfer to the US was in space station technology. The Russians had the world’s first and only permanent space station Mir going for 15 years and had already built the core modules for the bigger and improved Mir 2.

That’s when the Soviet collapse happened and the US got a chance to simply buy in. the US had been working, since 1984, on its own version of Mir, the ‘Freedom’ Space Station.

But it never got past the drawing board stage.

Between 1984 and 1993 it went through seven major re-designs, losing capacity and capabilities each time.

Rather than being completed in a decade, as Reagan had predicted, Freedom was never built, and no Shuttle launches were made as part of the program.

The American ‘space station’ was dead in the water after a decade of work and billions spent.

What actually happened is that the Russian Mir 2 was ready to go, and the US simply scrapped Freedom and bought their way into Mir 2, and eventually contributed some add-on modules that are completely superfluous to the functioning of the space station.

The functional core of the ISS is Mir 2, which consists of five segments that together comprise the Russian Orbital Segment, ROS.

The ROS handles Guidance, Navigation, and Control for the entire Station.

So there were a lot of goodies in the Soviet toy chest when the country imploded. Both China and the US benefited massively.

But there is actually a lot more. Today everyone is talking about hypersonic weapons. Well, the Russians today have a wide range of such hypersonic technologies. One such key technology is the scramjet engine that now powers the Zirkon hypersonic cruise missile.

Now the big deal about a scramjet engine is that it enables flight at very high speeds. A quick primer here: a rocket engine can go much faster than any air-breathing engine like a turbojet or a ramjet or even a scramjet. But a rocket has to be very heavy because it carries its own oxidizer, instead of taking in atmospheric air like the jet types.

That extra weight makes it impractical as a power source for a cruise-type missile which, unlike a ballistic missile, cruises through the atmosphere and is thus exposed to air drag as it flies along. A ballistic missile is simply heaved up until it passes right through the atmosphere, at which point the engine has burned through all its propellant, and the warhead simply coasts back down at its target [at very high speed of course].

So if you want a MANEUVERING missile, which is what a cruise missile is, it is impractical to use a rocket engine. You have to use an airbreathing jet engine. The best known cruise missiles, like the US Tomahawk, use a simple turbojet engine just like that found on a passenger jet—only much smaller of course. But they only fly subsonically.

It is possible for a jet engine to fly supersonically of course, but it can only reach about Mach 2, twice the speed of sound. So not much to be gained.

A ramjet engine behaves similarly to a a turbojet but can go faster. This is because there is no rotating machinery in the engine—it’s basically just a hollow pipe. But it is shaped very carefully to take advantage of the physics of how air behaves at high speeds. So what happens is the ramming action of the air entering the engine at high speed is used by the internal shaping to slow down the flow and thus raise the pressure. Which is why you don’t need the compressor found on ordinary jet engines.

But even a ramjet is limited to LESS than hypersonic speeds. To fly at faster than Mach 5, the flow through the engine combustor must be SUPERSONIC—hence the name scramjet, which stands for supersonic combustion ramjet.

This technology has been incredibly difficult to master, going on 30 years now. But it also promises to revolutionize aeronautics. Imagine if this technology filters down to civil aircraft. flying at M5 you could take off from New York and land in Beijing in TWO HOURS, instead of 12, which is quite a long haul flight for anyone.

Zirkon is said to reach speeds close to M10. And now here is another program that most people would not be aware of. In the same 1990s decade of Russian humiliation, the country had developed the world’s first scramjet engine prototype—courtesy of another mighty Russian aerospace institution, the Central Institute of Aviation Motors, CIAM.

Now somehow Nasa convinced CIAM to let them participate in the flight testing of this prototype, named ‘Kholod’ which means ‘cold’ in Russian, at the Sary Shagan flight test facility in Kazakshtan.

Under a contract with NASA, a joint Central Institute of Aviation Motors [CIAM] and NASA team recently conducted the fourth flight test of a dual-mode scramjet aboard the CIAM Hypersonic Flying Laboratory,“Kholod.”

With an aim test Mach 6.5 objective, the successful launch was conducted at the Sary Shagan test range in central Kazakstan on February 12, 1998.

Now despite this technology transfer, the US has still not been able to master the scramjet engine—just like they have so far been unable to master the advanced, staged-cycle rocket engine [although this is supposedly just around the corner].

There is in fact more, but I don’t want to make this into a book. But truly the Soviet chest was full of aerospace treasures. This speaks DIRECTLY to the higher education system. You simply cannot make these kinds of HUGE technology breakthroughs without serious commitment by the government to higher education and the kind of MASSIVE institutional infrastructure that entails.

Private business can never substitute for that. Which is why the US is where it is in these key pinnacle technologies.

One must never forget Jacob Schiff, nor indeed the real reason for his ‘pathological hatred of Russia’. The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG15 used the Russian Klimov VK1 engine.

It’s true that it was derived from the Rolls Royce Nene, 15 of which were supplied by Britain in the postwar years, due to the massive public goodwill in Britain towards Russia at the time which saw the Red Army as the savior of Britain and Europe in general, against the Nazis. [There was a Red Army day proclaimed, as well as a museum where King George’s Sword of Stalingrad was displayed to Londoners].

This is similar to how the Chinese knocked off their current state of the art rocket engine by using the RD120 that Russia sold them. I described this in some detail in my post above, and it took a huge ten-year effort for the Chinese to duplicate this engine.

The Russians duplicated the Nene in a matter of a few months and came up with a bigger and better engine—greater thrust by 20 percent.

That’s because the Russians already had their own advanced jet engine and rocket engine technology. See engine designer Arkhip Lyulka:

No, the 737 MAX is indeed using the 286, which is a 40-year old chip. That wasn’t changed on the recertification.

And the disaster with the MCAS system had nothing to do with the flight computer or the 286 chip—MCAS was simply a poorly thought-out system.

In fact this kind of system is a band-aid for a basic aerodynamic problem and should never even have been used to solve that problem.

That aerodynamic problem arose from using bigger-diameter engines, which resulted in unsatisfactory handling characteristics at certain critical phases of flight.

To be specific it has to do with a crucial handling characteristic called stick force gradient. As you pull back on the stick [control yoke on a Boeing], the stick force is supposed to get ever larger as you nose the plane up and closer to the aerodynamic stall regime.

What happened with those new engines is they had to be mounted forward of their normal position and when the airplane started nosing up, the large engines themselves would start contributing lift. Being considerably forward of the wing, this lift force was multiplied like a lever arm by this distance.

All of this was enough to disrupt the stick force gradient. So that when you got to the area approaching wing stall, the stick would actually go soft, instead of progressively harder.

This has nothing to do with chips. The MCAS system is a really really stupid idea that then takes control of the airplane, once it is nosed up, and slams the nose down, using the tail trim system.

The entire approach is hugely problematic, and you always want to correct a poor handling quality by direct aerodynamic means, not a robotic control that jumps in and yanks the airplane out of your hands.

I appreciate your input on hardening electronics for high altitude and space flight. Yes, this is a very big deal and it is quite technical.

And yes, there are additional hardening measures like doping and such which you mention—but in space-bound electronics the actual circuits have to be quite big.

The only scenario for war is the issue of Taiwan, but China would just say that Taiwan is a domestic insurrection rather than a cross-border war. In doing so they’d quote Richard Nixon and the various existing UN declarations saying that Taiwan is a mere province of China.

The US would need to recant Nixon’s policy, which would cause significant political pain inside an already fractured US – especially when people realise that conscription will likely be needed to enforce US will over China; that it’ll be a war against another superpower that can actually fight back against the US; that it’ll cost multiple trillions of dollars (“you think Afghanistan was expensive? Well, that’s just one week budget for war with China.”). The domestic debate will take months before a war authorisation is forthcoming, during which time China will be reinforcing their position in Taiwan making the occupation a fait accompli. In the meantime the US vassal states will be sitting on their hands desperately trying not to take a position just so they’re not left high and dry if the US can’t get a war authorisation.

So, what about having the domestic debate while simultaneously resorting to a UN resolution authorising a war against China? First, any resolution would be pointless because lets face it – the US is the only country that counts and if it can’t get a domestic war authorisation then it doesn’t matter what the UN says. Also, China and Russia would certainly use their UNSC vetoes to stop any UNSC war authorisation. That means the US would need to resort to the General Assembly for a war vote overriding the SC veto. The problem for the US is:
a yes vote will create a precedent justifying independence for all of the world’s long running insurrections – eg the Basques in Spain, Turkey/Greece, Turkey/Kurds, everywhere in Africa etc, so those votes will be really really really expensive to buy;the bribe prices will be massive even without taking into account countries with existing insurrections because a cashed-up China will be actively working on ensuring a no-vote;the leaders of every country will know that China is the rising power and the US is the erratic waning power that might ultimately abandon them – and China has a long memory;the western advanced economies will know that there’ll certainly be a global recession of a depth never seen in the modern world; and, western countries known that they’ll be expected to become combatants which would make their homeland and foreign assets legitimate targets, so they won’t be enthusiastic at all.

Now explain to the 500m people of the EU how much we thank them for their sacrifice.

The US would certainly sling a cordon around China sea lanes, even if doing so destroyed the economies of its vassals (eg Australia and most of western Europe). In turn, China would also draw a notional cordon around US sea lanes and simply say that ships crossing that cordon will never again be allowed in Chinese waters – even if the conflict ends tomorrow. The end result is that the global merchant fleet would stay in port for the duration – entirely cutting off global sea trade.

Suddenly land trade becomes key, and China will be in the position of rail freighting millions of tons of goods per year up through Russia on to the doorstep of Europe and sea freighting using its own flagged ships. So the US would need to blockade Europe, or Europe would need to actively side with the US. China would simply say that the goods are at the Russian border waiting for you if you want them – so more arm twisting needed by the US against its already badly suffering EU allies. Oh, those same EU allies will be on rations by then because grain etc will be incredibly expensive to import by sea (and Russia is the worlds biggest exporter of grain…), and the war hasn’t even properly started.

As for its army, well, Australia jumped on to the special-forces bandwagon so it could be a satrap for the US in Afghanistan without breaking the bank. Also, China and Russia would certainly use their UNSC vetoes to stop any UNSC war authorisation.

That means the US would need to resort to the General Assembly for a war vote overriding the SC veto.

I don’t believe this is possible. A UNGA vote consisting of two-thrids majority vote of the UN members CAN override a Security Council action—BUT, this is only possible in terms of peaceful action, not war.

For instance, if the UNSC passes a resolution authorizing military force for some kind of enforcement. [This is of course unlikely, considering that the five veto powers are generally on opposite sides on any contentious international issue].

But let’s say hypothetically that it happens, and the major powers are now authorized to take some kind of enforcement action. If the UNGA then passes a two-thirds vote against such use of force, then the UNSC resolution is null.

But this, to my knowledge, does not work the other way around—to push through a use of force resolution that has been rejected by the UNSC.

The reason it can work in the first instance is because of the General Assembly Uniting for Peace Resolution 377 of 1950, which provides for such a scenario. Obviously, passing a war resolution is not in the spirit of this ‘peace’ resolution—but in fact the opposite.

In any case, the US has previously shown itself not to care about getting UNSC authorization for force. They didn’t bother when they attacked and bombed Yugoslavia in 1999, nor when they invaded Iraq in 2003.

They did get a resolution [by getting the Medvedev-led Russia to abstain] for a no fly-zone over Libya in 2011, but they badly abused both the intent and letter of that resolution to do much more than just ensure no Libyan airplanes could fly—viciously bombing the country for months [without any Libyan aircraft in the air], and even using their terrorist proxies on the ground to murder Gadafi and overthrow the government.

So that is three illegal wars of aggression in just the last two decades alone. And we remind here that a war of aggression is the ‘crime against peace,’ the ULTIMATE war crime under the Nuremberg standard.

But despite all of this, the US has shot its bolt and is now circling the drain—economically, politically, military. The US today is like the Ottoman Empire around the turn of the 20’th century, the ‘sick man of Europe.’

Russia has leaped ahead by decades in deadly military technology, which, at the end of the day, is the ultimate decider, as it always has been in history. We saw this play out just recently with the US provocations in Ukraine, where the US humiliatingly backed off after Russia showed its teeth.

Even together with Europe and Japan, the G7 is now only one third of the world economy. There can be no more living off the ‘avails’ that the imperialist west has become used to for the last several hundred years.

The West (and Japan) — as represented by the G7 — no longer enjoys a monopoly on military power, political influence, industrial technology, scientific knowledge and intellectual capital. China and Russia are FULLY INTENT on restoring the world order of international law, as embodied by the United Nations—which order came about by CONSENSUS after the heroic defeat of the forces of fascism and imperialism.

Unfortunately, the US exploited the postwar situation, which saw it left as world’s foremost industrial and commercial power, to actually institute a new kind of imperialism—supplanting the British Empire and expanding greatly on that concept of extracting wealth and ‘tribute’ from the world at large.

These do pay interest of course, but of course in dollars, so it is necessary to just underwrite more US government debt with that money.

China right now holds THREE TRILLION DOLLARS of this useless monopoly money. Just think what it could do if that was yuan that it could spend in its own country, instead of buying T-Bills!

So one fine day we are going to wake up and China tells the US that it is no longer accepting dollars [the opium of today]. Of course this is inevitable. Does the US accept pesos for the Boeing aircraft it sells to Mexico?

In that single moment, the US is done!

I will just touch on the UN issue. No UN organization is giving the US any traction with the “recognize Taiwan” story. Just last month when the WHA had it’s Covid summit the US and the ROC’s 15 diplomatic allies – along with Japan was twisting arms to allow Taiwan to be there as an “observer”. 80 nations by contrast said in effect “we are not playing this game – the UN does not recognize Taiwan nor the ROC as a state – so they aren’t invited”. Between 2008 and 2016 when the KMT was in power on the island and stuck to the One China principle – the ROC of Taiwan province was allowed as an observer.

Same with the Olympics. The DPP government tried to get them to be allowed to compete as “Taiwan” at the 2020 Olympics. The Olympics said “you remain as Chinese Taipei or you don’t compete”. The vast majority of the world understands these acts could restart a civil war – and nobody except the US and UK want to see that. Even Japan – who wants the island broken off from China – doesn’t want a war to start because they know they would get touched too – since the US troops in Japan would be used.
Fact is since the DPP got into office the island has lost 7 diplomatic allies to the PRC including countries in the US backyard such as Dominican Republic – Panama – El Salvador. It all depends on the society. Southern China was involved in drug trafficking but only a tad bit. They stayed mostly in Myanmar (Burma days) and went to Hong Kong. They never dared. There are important distinctions, and parallels to my eye.

NSDAP Germany screwed up because they did not have the deep hierarchy that China has, and some of the Junker class acted as malefactors undermining the state. The malefactors were jealous of losing their cat-bird seat in the economy.

NSDAP type fascism was in many way more advanced than China, especially with their using coupons and other non usurious methods to channel purchasing power and lifting up labor power and industry.

Italy, NSDAP Germany, and now China were all groping for solutions to problems. Those solutions all lead to the same place.

There is actually enough information on China’s credit system when doing a 1000 foot view. One of China’s secrets is the releasing of debts aimed at industry. China prunes laggard state sponsored companies, and then tells said laggards, “you don’t have to pay back your loan.” The effect is convert debt Yuans into debt free Yuans. Said Yuans are no longer required to return to a debt ledger. Debt free goes on to become savings, and is no longer credit, but money. This money can then pay private debts.

China’s building of ghost cities was “pump priming” where new Yuans met new physical infrastructure, and then said Yuans would then be in the money supply to exchange for dollars won in mercantile trade. This was done by direct spending from the state.

Fascism has lots of policy tools in their tool-kit. So, the economies can look different up-close, but from a 1000 foot view, they are doing the same things.

Australia’s shipping lanes lead to its main customer (by a very large margin) China. We send over 600 million tons of iron ore to China every year. Is that a surprise to anybody? China produces around a thousand million tons of steel a year, over half the steel produced in the world.

If Australia was mad enough to join in a US war of aggression against China, why would we have to try to sink the ships carrying our exports? We could just sanction ourselves for the Yanks. The British EIC was having problems maintaining its colony in India whose cotton textile industry used to be the world’s largest before being destroyed by English cotton textile imports. Moreover, the British EIC needed silver to pay for Chinese goods to be exported to England. After the Qing Dynasty banned the opium trade, the British EIC (together with other British merchants such as Jardine Matheson) then bribed the English Parliament into authorizing the Opium Wars after the Lin Zexu incident.

England didn’t need the Indian opium trade as it became wealthy from its own English cotton textile industry. The problem was India, specifically the British EIC which eventually surrendered its Indian possessions to the British Raj which then officially turned India into a British Crown Colony. In return, the British Government had to pay the stockholders of the British EIC from tax revenues collected by the British Raj which lasted for decades after the dissolution of the British EIC!!!

The official narrative covers up this little known story because the powers-that-be wants to protect the identity of the British Oligarchy whose wealth came from the Indian opium trade. The powers-that-be also ‘white-washes’ the role of the British Oligarchy in the transatlantic African Slave Trade which the Woke Left now wants to blame on dirt-poor immigrants from Europe to America. After gold and silver which was extracted by Indio slaves from the mines in the Americas, African slaves were the most lucrative commodity during the 17th and 18th century. That’s a misconception. China does NOT allow private banks because its banking/financial system is 99% OWNED and CONTROLLED by the State, from the PBoC down to the Credit Unions. The problem is China’s shadow banking system which consists of private trust companies taking in investor capital in the form of wealth management products. The biggest example of this phenomenon is Jack Ma’s ANT Financial which is the Fintech equivalent of those private quasi-banks.

Saying “so-far” in the expectation that it will reach the audience you anticipate. We are in a sort of cusp in the “free west” (lol) as the wretched forces of “democracy” falter and people begin to look for real answers. Sounds like you’re entirely correct in your comparison of NSDAP German banking and monetary policy with that of modern day China. So simple, and yet so effective and so beneficial to the common man. Landhilfe (Rural Assistance), recruited approximately 120,000 unemployed young people to help work farms. The government financed their salaries, training and housing. It also arranged for temporary employment on farms for school graduates and students on summer break. The Landhilfe permitted foreigners living in Germany, primarily Poles, to enter the program.

He justified this by saying that ANT Financial was using state-of-the-art Fintech AI algorithms to score the credit-worthiness of his customers and suppliers in Alibaba. Behind this sweet-talk, however, Chinese regulators knew that Jack Ma was running a pyramid scheme of using credit in order to boost the revenue growth of his flagship e-commerce company, Alibaba, by relying on loans from Chinese State-owned banks which ANT Financial repackaged as financialized products to sell to his customers and suppliers. In short, ANT Financial was behaving like a shadow bank but on steroids. His coup de grace came when Jack Ma publicly criticized and ridiculed China’s State-dominated banking/financial industry at a Shanghai Forum which then prompted a political backlash from the State. The idea is to balance these two forces between the State and the Market in order to serve the Nation and benefit Society.
