Box 400120 Charlottesville, VA 22904-4120 USA (434) 924-7044 (phone) (434) 924-1350 (fax) I received my PhD in Anthropology and Linguistics from the University of Michigan in 2007 and MA in Native American Linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1999 with a graduate certificate in Latin American Studies. My research and teaching interests include sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology, multimodal interaction and conversation analysis, ethnography of communication, language contact and linguistic change, bioinformatics, prosody, ethnopoetics, and semiotics. I am a specialist in the Zapotec-Chatino language family and have worked with other Otomanguean languages of Mesoamerica including Chinantec where I have conducted fieldwork on the whistled speech register of Sochiapam. I am also conducting comparative linguistic work in the Na-Dene family of North America and its hypothesized relationship with the Yeniseian family of central Siberia. Before coming to Georgetown I held positions as Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Linguistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics. |
