Our PSA List of Grassroots Organizations and Resources updated 6/11

WFMU has a list of grassroots organizations including resources related to social justice movements and the COVID-19 pandemic. WFMU believes that these organizations are doing important work to help people and change attitudes. Check out this page for a growing list of useful organizations and resources. Suggestions on other grassroots organizations on this list can be e-mailed to Michele here.

WFMU On Demand: “Rumble”

Rumble: Indians Who Rocked the World covers a missing chapter in rock ‘n’ roll history: the influence of indigenous Americans on popular music. Link Wray, Jimi Hendrix, Robbie Robertson, and Buffy Sainte-Marie are just some of the many Native musicians who had an impact on the soundtrack of our lives. Rumble tells their story. Buy your ticket here. Your rental benefits WFMU!

WFMU On Demand: “Greenwich Village”

Greenwich Village: Music That Defined a Generation traces the history of the famed downtown NYC neighborhood that in the late ’50s and early ’60s hosted a folk boom not seen before or since. A who’s who of the folk scene talks about what happened and what it meant in this illuminating documentary. Get your ticket here. Every rental benefits WFMU!

Donate Your Old Car or Boat to WFMU

Donate your old car or boat to WFMU and we promise that we will never play the “Kars for Kids” jingle, EVER. Plus, you get a tax credit for the book value of your old beater! WFMU seeks donations of used aquatic and land-based vehicles from any state in the U.S. and in any state of disrepair. Call 1-855-WFMU-CAR (855-936-8227) to arrange for vehicle pick-up. It’s free and it’s painless!

Franco Battiato, R.I.P.

Franco Battiato, one of Italy’s greatest singer-songwriters and composers, sadly recently passed away. Several WFMU programs paid tribute to the maestro, who it seems could do almost anything: pop, electronic music, soft rock, experimental music, even opera. Check out these archives to hear a survey of his music: Polyglot with Jesse Doris, Spin Age Blasters with Creamo Coyl, Scott Williams, Bodega Pop with Gary Sullivan, and Strength Through Failure with Fabio.

Hang in There! The Swag Shall Come

If you asked for swag from our March fundraiser, good news: We’ve just begun mailing it out. We’re still operating with a very small crew, so it will take us a while – Amazon we ain’t – but eventually your swag will leave the building. Hang in there and thank you for your patience!
