Has ML got good enough that you’d be confident literally staking your life on it correctly identifying edible forage

This is a fantastic rapid roll-out of a much needed improvement, slightly marred by the fact that to access the screen showing availability of appointments… you need to click on a button marked "cancel and rebook appointment", which does not in fact cancel your appointment.

God I love our robust digital infrastructure, with its many and varied single points of failure

In hindsight, it is a bad thing that the bulk of my communication with my colleagues for the last 15 months has been using an email address that is also published on our website and my Twitter bio

The thing is, I would be absolutely stunned if the Co-op didn't have brand safety requirements that it communicates to its media buyers. So what is the actual policy here? "We won't advertise in outlets that make us look bad, unless people ask us not to, in which case we will"

Of all the companies to say "we think it's more important to boost our bottom line than to advertise in publications that share our stated values" I did not expect the Co-op to be first

Genuinely interesting that the Co-op has outlined a specific policy against participating in advertiser boycotts:

A really interesting way Londoners are, for want of a better phrase, out of touch of broad swathes of the rest of the country is not because of latte drinking or Islington dinner parties but because they have much more regular interactions with grinding poverty

I've just realised: the death of blogs means that we won the fight against people calling an individual blogpost "a blog". Was it a Pyrrhic victory? yes. will I celebrate it anyway? also yes

Alternative phrasing: it's an air conditioner set up to cool The World and dump its waste heat inside your house

I have only just realised that a heat pump is effectively a freezer with the warm bit inside your house and the open door poking out a window

This isn't even about the costs of *stopping* climate change, just the failure to prepare for *living* with it

"The UK is even worse prepared than it was five years ago, at the time of its last report on the risks of climate change… ministers appeared to be deterred from taking action by the upfront costs of protecting infrastructure."
