Necromancers of the Public Domain

NECROMANCERS OF THE PUBLIC DOMAIN
RETURNS!!!

Watch it LIVE, June 7 at 7pm EST right here on THEATER OF THE APES!

Every month, Theater of the Apes plucks a long forgotten volume from the shelves of the New York Society Library to resurrect as Necromancers of the Public Domain, a 1-night-only NYC variety show.

Our esteemed friends, the 17-YEAR CICADAS have commanded that we pull ourselves from the pandemic-mandated underground and up into the virtual realm, to celebrate their emergence together, with sounds, song, reflections, slideshows of questionable educational value, comedy, bombast, short films, cooking demonstrations, aural experiments and other entomological observations.

NECROMANCERS OF THE PUBLIC DOMAIN: The Periodical Cicada

The Periodical Cicada: An Account of Cicada Septendecim, Its Natural Enemies and the Means of Preventing Its Injury (1907)By entomologist Charles L. Marlatt

“Much obscurity must always attach to the past history of this insect and the origin of its peculiar habits, and notably the causes and conditions which have led to the establishment of the long underground existence and the equally extraordinary regularity in time of emergence at the end of this period.”
