The Prince of Wales visited the newly-opened London Muslim Centre in Whitechapel on Monday and said such training was of "great significance".

The east London centre focuses on young people aged between 11 and 16 who have the potential to become future leaders.

The prince said: "It's of immense importance that future imams are trained in the best possible way."

The new educational institution incorporates The London East Academy and is next to the East London Mosque, which has been serving the local Muslim community for a century.

The prince was also introduced to two and three-year-old Muslims at the centre's Rainbow House playgroup.

As president of the Prince's Trust youth charity, Prince Charles will attend the London West End film premiere of The Merchant of Venice at the Odeon, Leicester Square, on Monday evening.
