Partnership for Protection

Lockheed Martin has been a committed partner of the Bundeswehr and the German aerospace and defense industry for over 50 years. An advocate for the development of an integrated transatlantic defense capabilities, Lockheed Martin works with in-country industrial partners to support German security needs.

Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion

The  Sikorsky CH-53K is the future-proof heavy lift solution of the 21 st century. Our German industrial partners play an essential role to deliver a helicopter that fully meets the mission requirements of the German Armed Forces. The CH-53K is designed to ensure reliability, low-maintenance, high availability, and enhanced survivability in the most austere and remote forward operating bases. Its day and night air-to-air refuelling capability enables the CH-53K to perform an unprecedented range of mission profiles. Combined with its low life cycle costs, this adds up to the most efficient and capable heavy lift platform for decades to come.

C-130J Super Hercules

The C-130J Super Hercules is one of the world’s most proven and powerful tactical transport aircraft, with more than 450 aircraft delivered to over 20 global customers and more than 2 million flight hours obtained. In 17 available variants, the aircraft performs in-flight refuelling, ground refuelling, weather reconnaissance, electronic warfare, medical evacuation, search and rescue, paradrop, maritime mission, special operations and many other missions. The C-130J demonstrates a reliability that far exceeds most other military aircraft with average mission capable rates routinely in the 80-to-90% range.

The Bundeswehr plans to operate a total of 6 C-130Js, primarily focusing on national risk and crisis management and special forces support. Three of these aircraft will be delivered in the KC-130 configuration, which provide air-to-air and ground refuelling capabilities for future heavy lift helicopters and other aircraft. The German Super Hercules fleet will be based at the French airbase at Évreux-Fauville in Normandy, where it will be operated as part of a Franco-German airlift squadron. From 2024, the binational squadron plans to operate a total of ten Lockheed Martin aircraft.

TLVS

Taktisches Luftverteidigungssystem or “TLVS,” is a future Air and Missile Defense (AMD) system. Using the Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) as its foundation, TLVS will defeat next-generation threats including tactical ballistic missiles, unmanned aerial systems, cruise missiles and aircraft. Its proven hit-to-kill technology provides the best defense against tactical ballistic missiles armed with weapons of mass destruction. With its netted-distributed capability and open plug and fight interface, TLVS is the most advanced, networked 360° IAMD system in the world, and it is the only system with the ability to flexibly react to changing threats using force that is tailored to the mission.
