Advanced Technology Laboratories

The Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) is a Lockheed Martin applied research and development center. Aligned with the Corporation’s Chief Technology Officer, we work to advance scientific discovery and technology transition in human systems, robotics and autonomy, spectrum systems, data analytics and more.  

We are in the business of turning emerging ideas into new technologies for our customers. We embrace the diversity of thought, collaborating with some of the best and brightest in government, industry and academia.  We partner with U.S. government service laboratories, universities, technology businesses and Lockheed Martin colleagues across the Corporation.

Our customers include the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), U.S. government service laboratories and, ultimately, the men and women of the U.S. armed forces.

We envision transformational technologies that will redefine global security. We envision a world where machines and data partner with people to enhance human ability. We are ATL, and we are wired into the future.

Human Systems Optimization

Datasets about human performance and fitness are growing exponentially. Using a “Sense-Assess-Augment” framework, we’re exploring novel ways to apply that data to improve how people and machines work together – and potentially revolutionize how new systems are built.

Electromagnetic Spectrum

Our world depends on electromagnetic energy. That’s why we’re exploring new ways to learn the spectral environment, predict the behavior of others operating in the spectrum, and enable necessary protections and countermeasures.

Autonomy & Robotics

A universe where robots operate alongside people isn’t science fiction – it’s rapidly becoming our reality. We’re working to advance the development of autonomous and unmanned systems, discovering new ways for human-machine teams to accomplish more together.

Data Analytics & Decision Making

We know that Big Data is a big deal. We’re exploring new ways to combine human insight and advanced computing – using data fusion and predictive analytics to assess dynamic battlefield situations, anticipate the enemy's next move, and much more.

Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories is home to a tight-knit group of scientists and engineers motivated by a common mission: Incubating transformational technologies in support of global security.

We hail from diverse backgrounds, with over 250 people working across four main locations. We thrive in a flat and nimble organization, and regularly partner with early adopters to validate concepts and prototypes. We’re passionate problem-solvers and curious collaborators. ATL maintains close relationships with the brightest minds in academia. We also have close proximity to many nationally recognized colleges and universities – enabling us to support a robust student co-op and intern program in the Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. areas.
