Regain Health and FP Using Bloodstains

There are certain items in Elden Ring that allow you to regain a bit of Health or FP after an enemy is killed. However, what seems to be a glitch can allow you to gain this life back from witnessing the death of a player.

While a weapon or talisman is equipped that allows this passive effect, you can view another player's bloodstain to see how they died - and it will end with that player's death animation. For some reason, if you witness the death of a player who dies only from falling damage, the resulting death animation will trigger your items to restore lost HP or FP.

Note that this does not apply to viewing bloodstains of players who die by other means - including death in combat, poison, or falling off into an abyss where their body disappears. The red ghost of the player must be shown landing and dying from the fall damage to apply.

This means that in an area with high ledges or easily missed jumps that can cause people to land below and die, you can equip these items to restore your health or FP without resorting to using Flasks, spells, or resting at Site of Grace.

Currently, there are only a few items that have restorative effects:

  • The Ancestral Spirit's Horn is a Talisman that can be gained by transmuting the Regal Ancestor's Remembrance via the Finger Reader at the Roundtable Hold - after defeating the Regal Ancestor's Spirit in Nokron, Eternal City. I's effect allows the restoration of FP upon defeating enemies.

  • The Serpent-God's Curved Sword is a weapon found in the Ruin-Strewn Precipice bordering North Liurnia and the Altus Plateau, and is located behind a Giant Land Octopus among the outer ruin walls as you ascend the dungeon. It's effect restores HP upon defeating an enemy.

  • The Blasphemous Blade is another weapon that can be gained by defeating Praetor Rykard in the Volcano Manor in Mt Gelmir, transmuting the Remembrance of the Blasphemous at the Finger Reader in Rountable Hold. It also restores HP upon defeating an enemy.

Using any of these items will trigger the effect when viewing a bloodstain die from falling damage - but that's not the only way to regain health without directly fighting. The effect will trigger when anything nearby dies - even if you aren't directly involved. This includes enemies dying from an accident, friendly fire, scripted deaths, killing random creatures like deer or birds - even if Torrent is killed while riding you'll gain some heath or FP from its "death".

Easy Runes to Get Early in Dragonbarrow

Early players can get a head start accumulating a lot of runes quickly by abusing a high level area.

Starting at the Third Church of Marika (where you can find the Flask of Wondrous Physick), head north to the shallow pond. On the eastern side, you’ll find a teleporter hidden in the brush. Activate it to be transported to Caelid.

You’ll arrive in Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow, facing a large door. Open it and activate the Bestial Sanctum’s Site of Grace.

Head back outside, avoid the giant winged creature on the stairs (it’s a world boss), and head into the fields. The small humanoid enemies here grant over 1000 runes for each kill (we got over 5,000 runes for killing one with golden eyes!), and they are relatively easy to kill, particularly if you sneak up on them and backstab them.

There is also a ton of room to run around if you need breathing room to heal, escape, or ride Torrent for mounted combat. If you stay close to the Bestial Sanctum, you can also even use your Ashes to summon help while you farm (and there is a minor Erdtree there with a Golden Seed, so you can even get an extra heal while you are here).

You’ll be able to farm runes quickly here, letting you get a ton of levels early, or buy that thing you’ve always wanted from the merchants across the Lands Between.
