Every time No 10 tries to draw a line on partygate another chapter opens. Here we have the prospect of another ticking clock, another mine in the political road, yet more sense for Conservative MPs that Boris Johnson cannot untangle himself, however much he wills it.

NEW Conservative MPs are being sent home and told they don't have to vote on Labour's Privileges committee motion. This means the motion will almost certainly pass and Boris Johnson will be investigated for misleading the Commons, as soon as Scotland Yard finishes its work.

Tory MPs are being told by whips they can head home and not vote on Labour’s motion later - meaning it will almost certainly pass. That means Boris Johnson will be investigated for misleading Parliament once the Met Police inquiry is over.
