When a ruler claims “I’m not the kind of person who exacts revenge”, but adds “we’ll massacre all the scum you’ve been financing,” you can’t help doubting the first line. The Lukashenko interview: & Thanks

🚨Attention those who say "the BBC is just an arm of the British government" A BBC investigation has found an MI5 spy used his status to terrorise his partner before moving abroad to continue intel work. The govt took the BBC to court to block publication.

  5. I can’t get this Soviet TV report on the pull-out from Afghanistan out of my head: “Can this war really end while the mothers & wives of dead [soldiers] & their orphaned children are still alive? Until they’re given a clear & precise answer to the question:what did they die for?”

Extraordinary exchange on Russian state TV’s top talk show about Ukraine. Military analyst & retired colonel Mikhail Khodarenok tells anchor Olga Skabeyeva “the situation for us will clearly get worse…we’re in total geopolitical isolation…the situation is not normal.”

The Golden Arches are going: McDonald’s is selling up & pulling out of Russia. End of an era. In 1990, when the 1st McDonald’s opened here, American burgers, fries & pies were a symbol of Moscow embracing the West: hot food to end a cold war. We live in very different times…

Russian TV caption: “The Northerners want to turn up the heat?” Russian state media ignore the fact that Finland & Sweden wanting to join Nato is a direct result of Russia attacking Ukraine. This is what has ‘turned up the heat’ leaving countries in the region feeling insecure.

Russian state TV on Finland/Sweden wanting to join Nato:“Their official reason is fear. But they’ll have more fear in Nato. When Nato bases appear in Sweden & Finland, Russia will have no choice but to neutralise the imbalance & new threat by deploying tactical nuclear weapons.”

Congratulations to Ukraine for winning . But also to . For years I’ve heard disillusioned Brits say: “Europe hates us, the UK will never do well in again.” But no! All we needed was a great song, great singer, great performance and we’re 2nd!

Ahead of the 2022 Grand Final, here's one of my craziest musical moments: when I tried to play on the piano (in one tweet) every winning song since 1956. Italy’s 2021 winner I’ve added in the thread.

Regarding US senator Rand Paul who held up a $40bn US aid package to Ukraine...4 years ago he made a controversial trip to Russia. I tried to ask him if it was right for him to be here with US intel chiefs claiming Russia continued to meddle in US elections. There was no reply…
