WEIGHTLIFTERS recorded some personal bests during the National Club Championship at the National Fitness Centre in Laucal Bay, Suva yesterday. National coach Henry Elder said majority of the lifters put on their best performances to date.

He said two athletes joining the Suva Weightlifting Club, Elizabeth Chute and Karen Vulaca, proved their worth.

“Looking at their performances at the championship, they both did very well compared to their training,” Elder said.

“We had several max sessions and the last session that we had they improved by five kilos for the past three weeks.

“This is very impressive for young athletes.

“The Vira sisters from Levuka also proved themselves being more mature ad experienced they really did well. Hats off to them and their father for the support and training.”

He added lifter will continue with their training and will have a max session in mid January.

“Everyone trains through two to three days in between and will have a day off on Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.”
