Birmingham, Salford and Bath have among the worst postcodes for food standards according to shocking new research evaluating almost 300,000 venues across Britain. In Wales and Northern Ireland, businesses selling food are legally obliged to show their food standards rating at the entrance to their business, although across England, this is only a voluntary arrangement.

NEW Waitrose recently launched its first ever lunchtime meal deal to help families in the UK battle the cost-of-living crisis. The supermarket's customers can now get a sandwich, wrap, salad or sushi, as well as a snack and drink for £5. Previously, the upmarket chain was one of the only major supermarkets in the UK to not have their own meal deal.   Sainsbury's , Tesco , Co-op, Marks & Spencer and Morrisons are among the big supermarkets that offer a drink, sandwich or salad and snack for a bargain price.The only major supermarket without their own deal is Asda - while other high street spots like Amazon Fresh and Boots also have lunchtime deals for shoppers.But which is the best deal and which leaves something to be desired? Here, FEMAIL puts them all to the test, with surprising results...

LESLEY-ANN JONES: No selfies. No conversations. The rules were strict and the warning came in advance, via email. Paul McCartney was inviting me and a host of luminaries to a formal event, and we were expected to behave ourselves. We were both instantly transported back to the cluttered, flag-stoned kitchen at their cottage in Peasmarsh, East Sussex, where Linda and Paul lived a bohemian life - showing their faces at village fetes, and conveying their children to the local schools in old Land Rovers and Volvo estates. The house was a muddle of falling-apart furniture and bric-a-brac. Guitars were piled like firewood. Mud everywhere. In one small, cosy side room with a smoking wood fire, I spied a Van Gogh.

Northamptonshire Chief Constable Nick Adderley, 57, who was once tipped for a top job at the Met, is now being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The police chief has been previously described in press releases and an interview with online police magazine Police Oracle as a Falklands veteran with ten years of experience in the Navy. But after it was pointed out he was 15 at the time and being accused of 'misleading' the public, Chief Constable Adderley said he was given the South Atlantic Medal by his older brother (right) when he emigrated to Australia. The 'stolen valour' allegations show no sign of abating, however, fresh photos now purport to show Adderley's brother Rick wearing the medal while in Australia in 2020, seven years after Adderley claims it was given to him.

BETH HALE: Laurence Fox, who was sacked from GB News earlier this week, has undergone several incarnations since he landed his best-known role as DS James Hathaway in ITV drama Lewis. Off screen, he has been a husband, courtesy of his showbiz marriage to teen popstar-turned actress Billie Piper, then embattled divorcé locked in a legal dispute over access to their sons, aged 15 and 11. More recently he's been political party leader, failed London mayoral candidate, anti-lockdown campaigner and a controversial presenter.

Topical news panel show Question Time has been thrown into a race row after the BBC deleted a clip of Fiona Bruce referring to an audience member as a 'black guy'. In Thursday night's broadcast of the show on BBC One, the host asked a man from the audience to put his question to the panel - but her racial description was edited out when it was uploaded to iPlayer. Ms Bruce, 59, and the BBC have now apologised for causing offence for her remarks, with the Question Time presenter saying it was 'wrong to identify him as I did'. The remarks drew fury from people including former chief prosecutor Nazir Afzal, who posted the original clip on X, formerly Twitter , writing: 'Let's hear from the "black guy"'. She had asked the audience in Wolverhampton: 'Is it right to band mobile phones in schools?' The BBC presenter, whose arm was in a sling after she fell off her horse, took a question wearing a 'colourful top' and when asking for input from another audience member pointed to a 'guy there in the middle... the black guy in the middle, yes you, sir.' No one in the studio made a reaction to the comment and the audience member then asked a question about limiting mobile use in schools as well as government funding. In the version of the programme uploaded to BBC iPlayer, Bruce says, 'the guy in the middle, yes you, sir', with the 'black guy' description removed.

Rick Stein 9pictured left and right, and inset in the 80s) has been under the knife and was afraid he might not survive. 'It was scary before I went into the operation,' says the chef, talking for the first time about his open heart surgery last year. 'Afterwards you realise if you had died you wouldn't have noticed, because you were under the anaesthetic.' When he came round at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London , the 76-year-old had a revelation that he says has changed his life and his work. 'I started thinking hard about how I live and how we cook. I want to simplify things.'

Nilendu Das (inset), 55, was given a ten-year ban on letting out properties after city council officials took him to court - with inspectors saying his rentals were some of 'the most dangerous' they'd ever encountered. Sheffield City Council accused Mr Das, who was once jailed for harassing tenants, of having a 'long history of operating and managing extremely poor quality housing.' This included houses with huge piles of rubbish outside, graffiti covering the walls and holes in the ceiling. The Indian restaurant owner has now been added to the Rogue Landlord Database and is subject to the longest letting ban in the UK. He owns multiple properties in the Crookes area of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. But when asked about the ban, Das hit back at Sheffield City Council and said: 'My tenants think I am the best. One of my tenants said I was a good leader - they just love me.' He went on to threaten to 'go rogue'.

Last week, she left fans cringing as they witnessed what appeared to be a stony 'snub' at Kim Kardashian during Victoria Beckham 's 2024 Spring/Summer show at Paris Fashion Week. NEW Top Gear has reportedly been axed by the BBC after 46 years after bosses determined there was no way back from Freddie Flintoff's horror car crash.  The former England cricket captain was 'lucky to be alive' after his open-topped three-wheel 130mph Morgan Super 3 car, which had no air bags, flipped over on December 13 last year, leaving him with severe facial injuries and broken ribs.  The Ashes hero had to wait an 'agonising' 45 minutes for an air ambulance - with the BBC later giving him an apology. 

Archie's Fish and Chip Shop, in Minster-in-Thanet, Kent, took to social media to show off the whopper of a potato. Owners Natalia Sidorova, 50, and Alexander Povalyaev, 42, revealed the huge potato was delivered in a bag from a supplier. Employee Roni Gill, 23, said: 'We went to cut our chips to fry and this is one of the potatoes that came out of our bags.'

He acquired the nickname 'Mr Tinder' after it was disclosed in 2017 that he was the most 'right-swiped' man on the popular dating app, yet Stefan-Pierre Tomlin despaired earlier this year that he was unable to find lasting love. Now, however, The Daily Mail's Richard Eden can disclose that the reality television star has a new girlfriend - and he didn't meet her online. She is NHS nurse Leanne Noakes, 34. 'We met while I was being treated for a minor football injury at the hospital where she works,' he said at the premiere of Bikeriders at Royal Festival Hall in London. 'She is an A&E; nurse who whisked me off my feet and back to health.' She and Tomlin, 33, from London, who runs dating agency Celebrity Love Coach, wore matching black leather outfits to the premiere.

NEW Max Verstappen is on the verge of taking another step to greatness, as the Dutchman could win his third world championship this weekend in Qatar. The 26-year-old needs just three more points to wrap up a hat-trick of drivers' titles, meaning that a sixth place finish in Saturday's sprint race would be enough - regardless of where nearest challenger Sergio Perez finishes. There are still fives races to go after Sunday's Qatar Grand Prix, outlining the level of domination Verstappen has had this season. He has finished on the podium in 15 out of 16 races, and could yet set the record for most races in a season (he is currently on 13 - two behind his own record of 15 from last year).  

Returning for the start of autumn term, Kate has ditched her trademark dresses in favour of power suits - and this week broke out a cutting edge trouser and jumper combination - for seven of her most recent engagements around the UK. Along with her newly cut 'curtain bangs' haircut, the 41-year-old's recent looks projects a purposeful, business-like image and could not be further from the largely dresses she has favoured until now. On the left, Kate donned a dark green suit for a visit to a textile mill in Leeds, in the centre, Kate stunned in a camel suit as she visited a charity in east London, and on the right she opted for a pinstripe suit during a visit to Wales' capital.

NEW Spain today joined an exclusive club of countries to launch a private rocket into space, successfully lifting off from a site in Huelva. PLD Space launched its reusable Miura-1 rocket early on Saturday before landing as planned in the Atlantic Ocean. The startup's test launch came after two previous attempts were scrubbed, offering new hope for the country's stalled space ambitions.

Brazil star Neymar and his partner Bruna Biancardi have announced the birth of their daughter Mavie. Biancardi posted photos of the couple on Instagram with their newborn daughter. The 29-year-old declared that their 'lives are complete' following the arrival of Mavie. 'Our Mavie came to complete our lives, 'Biancardi wrote. 'Welcome, daughter! You are already very loved by us... thank you for choosing us.' The couple shared sweet photos on social media after welcoming their first child.

NEW Liverpool's controversial 2-1 defeat to Tottenham has provoked anger from many after VAR officials blundered by failing to overturn Luis Diaz's wrongly disallowed goal. Frustration at the decision has been expressed by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, as well as the club's star players and supporters. The anger was also expressed on social media by Rute Cardoso, the wife of Liverpool star Diogo Jota, who revealed her fury at referee Simon Hooper and the officiating body PGMOL.

The video, which has now gone viral, shows a confident Trudeau waving at supporters who had lined up to meet him as he marches up to greet them with his security guards standing just yards away.He shakes someone's hand and waves at a child in a stroller before attempting to shake the hand of another crowd member who says: 'I'm not shaking your hand bro, you're a f***ing piece of s***.' Trudeau looks visibly taken aback and asks; 'Why's that, sir?'

The large feline was snapped in Kent and its neck muscle, ear shape and tail is not that of a domestic breed, experts claim. It is thought it could be latest evidence of big cats in Britain and could be a rare dwarf breed known as a 'pumapard'. They are a cross between a leopard and a puma or cougar - and have previously been born in captivity.

Erudite, dapper, waspishly witty and incorrigibly pompous, celebrity psychiatrist Frasier Crane became one of TV's most beloved characters in the 90s. Played by Kelsey Grammer , he made his first appearance in the hit 80s sitcom Cheers before going on to feature in its even more popular spin-off Frasier (pictured right). The show earned 37 Emmy Awards in its 11-year run and next week it returns to our screens after 19 years in a reboot that Kelsey terms his character's 'third act' (pictured left).

A decade after winning her first world title in the same event in Antwerp, Biles returned to the Belgian city this week to top Brazil's Rebeca Andrade across the balance beam, floor, vault, and uneven bars. Biles' US teammate Shiles Jones took the bronze medal, with 56.332 points. Friday's gold medal was Biles' 21st at the World Championships, which she first competed in when she was only 16 years old.

Travis Kelce looked less-than-enthusiastic about celebrating his 34th birthday in Kansas City without new girlfriend Taylor Swift , but quickly perked up upon getting a photo request from a young female admirer. Kelce took time to have his picture taken with the blonde woman outside Kansas City's Golden Ox, where the two-time Super Bowl winner enjoyed a night out with friends on Thursday - two days before traveling to Minneapolis for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings. The identity of the blonde fan on Kelce's arm is unknown and the Chiefs tight end was apparently just being gracious with local supporters, several of whom had their pictures taken with him.

The replica of the White House, built on the top of a skyscraper in Bangalore, is located at 400 feet and sprawls across two levels, covering an area of 40,000 square metres. The mansion-style penthouse sits upon a giant cantilever slab on the top of Kingfisher Towers at the luxury retail and office space UB City, which is built on a 4.5-acre land parcel that once held the owner's ancestral home. Vijay Mallya, the son of United Breweries Group founder Vittal Mallay, left India in March 2016 as lenders and investigating agencies came after him, after he allegedly borrowed huge sums of money and never returned it. He has been fighting against the charges since then, and India has been attempting to get him extradited from the UK. The mansion was supposed to feature a wine cellar, indoor heated pool and outdoor infinity pool, as well as a roof helipad, among other amenities, but the finished product has remained shrouded in mystery since Mallya announced plans to have the lavish property built in 2010.
