Happy and Glorious... at Glastonbury: Prince Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie and even King

It's the world's most famous music festival that has attracted the biggest names for decades, from David Bowie to Billie Eilish. This year's event, which kicks off in just a few days, will be headlined by Dua Lipa and Coldplay. While illustrious, they don't have the regal pull of King Charles (inset right in 2010) and Prince Harry (inset left in 2013), who are among the royals who have attended in the past. And Prince William previously revealed that attending the Somerset musical extravaganza was on his and Kate's bucket list. During an interview on BBC Radio 1 in 2017, William said: 'I've talked about going to Glastonbury before because I do love my music and Catherine as well.' Princess Beatrice (right in 2022) is a regular attendee, and her sister Eugenie (left) went in 2016. Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas (centre) was there in 2013 with him and then returned the following year after they had split up.

The royals are renowned for their impeccably groomed appearances, but the methods they use to maintain them are often kept confidential. One princess adores a bee venom, placenta protein and 24-carat gold cream, which is currently discounted from £750 to £95. Another royal wore a fragrance reminiscent of her would-be mother-in-law's favourite scent when she first met her Prince Charming. And one revered monarch couldn't live without her cherished nail polish, which was personally requested by her hairdresser.

Queen Camilla was photographed meeting Henry Winkler as she attended Royal Ascot on Saturday. The actor, who beamed as he shook hands with the royal, is best known for his role as The Fonz on Happy Days. His appearance comes as the five-day event in Berkshire, which is a highlight of the social calendar, draws to a close. There has been a strong royal presence at Ascot this year, with the King, 75, only missing one day (Wednesday) due to his ongoing cancer treatment. (Pictured: Henry Winkler; King Charles and Queen Camilla at Royal Ascot).

Taylor kicked off the London leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium , performing to fans, celebrities and politicians alike - as well as her American footballer boyfriend Travis Kelce. The Prince of Wales was among the 90,000-strong crowd in London for the hottest ticket in town - celebrating his 42nd birthday dancing the night away with his three young children Prince George, 10, nine-year-old Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, six. Prince William and megastar Swift have long known each other - the pair shared the stage at Kensington Palace to perform Livin' On A Prayer with Jon Bon Jovi at a charity event in 2013. Last night's show came after the military band at Buckingham Palace earlier in the day performed a rendition of Swift's 2014 hit Shake It Off to mark the Eras Tour arriving in the UK capital for three nights this weekend ahead of another five in August.

Princess Margaret's daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto (pictured) looked regal as she attended the third day of the Royal Ascot in a bold indigo blue ensemble today. Sarah, who is famed for being the Queen's favourite niece and for her sweet, unassuming nature, appeared in a sophisticated dress at the races in Berkshire today. Sarah, 60, was the only daughter of the glamorous Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, though she is the half sister to David Armstrong-Jones. Sarah wore a neck tight blue dress with short sleeves in a dark blue shade, accessorising the ensemble with a large sun hat of the same colour.

The royal family enjoyed another day of affection at Ascot today as they the King and Queen arrived in a carriage with the Duke and Duchess and Devonshire.  The King, who didn't attend the racecourse yesterday in favour of investitures, opted for a classic top hat and tails look, pairing a grey suit with a complementary powder blue waistcoat and pink tie. Meanwhile, the Queen, who yesterday attended with her stepson Prince William and his in-law Carole and Michael Middleton, wore an all white look with a stand-out emerald green brooch.

RICHARD EDEN: As a godchild of King Charles, and a bridesmaid when he married Lady Diana Spencer, India Hicks is used to grand ceremonies. Now, I hear, the designer has made a heartfelt journey to war-torn Ukraine to become a godmother herself. India, a granddaughter of the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, took part in the christening at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the most sacred monastery in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. Her godchild is Zakhar, the son of a Ukrainian couple with whom she has become good friends through her work with the disaster relief organisation Global Empowerment Mission.

The Prince of Wales, 41, shared a tender moment with Carole Middleton, who was making her first public appearance since her daughter's cancer diagnosis. In a touching moment, William stretched out his hand for his mother-in-law to grab onto after the heel of her right shoe got trapped in the Ascot turf. The pair were seen laughing off the shoe mishap - as Carole had her very own Cinderella moment, but luckily had a charming prince on hand. During a packed second day at Royal Ascot, William - who attended Ascot without the Princess of Wales - was spotted deep in conversation with Carole, Kate's father Michael and Zara Tindall. The Prince of Wales arrived at Royal Ascot - the crown jewel of racing - with Queen Camilla in what was a rare joint outing at a social occasion.

When Bessie Wallis Warfield was born on June 19, 1896 at a mountain resort where wealthy citizens of Baltimore, Maryland, went to escape the summer heat, no one could have had any idea of the royal crisis she would spark nearly 40 years later. After all, she came from a secure, discreet and moneyed family - her father was the son of a prominent flour merchant and her mother was the daughter of a stockbroker. But all was not quite as idyllic as it seemed. Although Wallis - she dropped Bessie as a child - claimed her parents had married a year before her birth, the ceremony actually took place on November 19, 1895, meaning she was conceived out of wedlock. Furthermore, her father was suffering from tuberculosis and died when she was just 18 months old, which meant that throughout her childhood Wallis and her mother were dependent on the charity of their well-heeled relatives. They lived first with her father's bachelor brother Solomon, the president of the Continental Trust Company and the Seaboard Air Line Railway. Then they moved in with a widowed aunt before Wallis's mother secured their future by marrying the son of a powerful Democrat Party politician. That was before she seduced the man who would become King Edward VIII (inset top and bottom).

Princess Eugenie of York looked stylish while attending a fashion event in London on Monday night. The King's niece, 34, opted for a chic yet modest black floral frock at the Fashion Trust Arabia dinner in celebration of the 2023 FTA Prize winners at Claridge's hotel. Also attending the dinner was Emma Weymouth, Marchioness of Bath. Socialite Emma, who looked stunning in a fitted white gown, is married to Ceawlin Thynn, 8th Marquess of Bath. (Pictured L-R: Princess Eugenie; Emma Weymouth, Marchioness of Bath).

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh certainly made for a radiant guest as she attended the ancient Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle on Monday. The royal, 59, stunned in a blissful colour combination of cream, pink and peach as she arrived at the traditional service held at St George's Chapel. She joined other senior royals, including the King and Queen and Prince William, at the ceremony commemorating the ancient Order Of The Garter.

The 10-year-old seemed bewildered as he rode in a carriage with his younger siblings Charlotte, nine, and Louis, six, as they watched the assembled crowds of thousands of royal fans along the Mall. George remarked to his mother, K ate Middleton , 42, 'they all look so happy', lipreader Juliet Sullivan told MailOnline, before waving to onlookers who had gathered to wish King Charles a happy birthday. Today marked The Princess of Wales' first public appearance in months as she has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer since late February. The royal was on hand to ensure her children could enjoy the family day out to celebrate their grandfather's birthday - her presence meant they didn't have to travel to the palace without an adult in their carriage.

The honours system is a quintessentially British tradition. We still, somewhat nostalgically, award most of our honours in the name of the British Empire, even though it no longer exists. When the King's Birthday Honours list is revealed this month, there will be plenty of mentions of 'Empire'. The majority of awards that feature the word are the modest MBE (Member of the British Empire), middle-management OBE (Order of the British Empire), the CBE (Commander of the British Empire) - one step below the KBE (Knight of the British Empire.) Those awarded the MBE occasionally like to point out that the letters stand for 'My Bloody Efforts', while the OBE stands for 'Other B*****'s Efforts.' The Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George is reserved for diplomats and high ranking civil service officials. The lowest form of the order is the CMG (Companion of St Michael and St George). Once an official has received this award, his colleagues name him (out of earshot) Call Me God. Above: England footballer Mary Earps being made an MBE by Prince William last month (left); Justin Welby is made a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (centre); director Ritchie Scott gets the same award (right); Jilly Cooper after being made a dame (inset left); Laura and Jason Kenny (inset right) after receiving their gongs.

Kate, 42, who is undergoing cancer treatment, did not attend the Colonel's Review on June 8 - which is the traditional rehearsal for the sovereign's official birthday parade. But Rebecca English, The Daily Mail's Royal Editor, suggested to this week's Palace Confidential that an appearance from the royal at this weekend's event in London , should not be completely ruled out amid 'persistent rumours' she might appear on the balcony. 'What's very interesting, is that when I've asked both Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace about it this week, it's been not saying a word,' said the expert. She continued: 'I mean look, if she is there. Fantastic. People will be delighted to see her. If she isn't, don't read anything into it because she never said she would be. I think it will be a bonus.'

King Charles generally loathes confrontation so there was some surprise when he - or those close to him, perhaps - declared war on younger brother Prince Andrew in the usually staid pages of The Times. There is, according to the newspaper, an 'increasingly bitter stand-off' between the Monarch and the Duke of York over Royal Lodge (pictured), which has been Andrew's family home since he paid £1million for a 75-year lease in 2003. Andrew, who shares it with his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York , spent more than £7.5million on extensive renovation work to the sprawling Grade II-listed mansion in Windsor Great Park.

Model Amelia, 28, who is the granddaughter of Prince Edward , Duke of Kent - making her 43rd in line to the throne, commanded attention in a vibrant purple gown as she stepped out at the lavish event in London. The Dolce & Gabbana model, who is no stranger to premieres and launch parties, added an edgy feel to her outfit with a black handbag, designed like a cottage, and a pair of chunky flat shoes. Adding a touch of glitz to her off-the-shoulder ensemble, Lady Amelia, who is cousins with Princes William and Harry, donned an array of glittering jewellery, from dazzling bracelets to colourful gem-filled rings. Elsewhere, Emma, 38, looked equally stylish in an eye-catching scarlet maxi dress, featuring daring cut-out embellishments, a plunging V-neck and dainty straps.

Queen Letizia put her best fashion foot forward in an oversized Uterque Lace and Ruffles Linen white blouse as she attended the event in Madrid today. The classy top is a recycled piece that Letizia previously wore in 2021 to open new courses at Ciudad de Haro High School. She paired today's fresh look with a pair of smart, slim porcelain-coloured trousers which showed off her sophisticated, slender frame. Letizia went for a more casual and comfortable wardrobe look and opted for a pair of white trainers rather than heels.

Four years after the Sussexes' decision to abandon Britain and then pour hateful and hurtful scorn upon the Royal Family , friends of King Charles have let it be known he wants a closer relationship with his grandchildren Archie, five, and Lilibet, three. Having met them only a handful of times and had limited communications, mostly via the occasional video call, he is said to be keen to spend time with them, to be 'more present in their lives' and 'would welcome the comfort and pleasure of seeing them' more. Royal commentator Michael Cole says Charles feels the 'lack of closeness with his Californian grandchildren acutely'.

King Charles III presented new colours to the Irish Guards today - the regiment for which his daughter-in-law the Princess of Wales became the Colonel last year. The monarch inspected the guardsmen and officers on parade at Windsor Castle before the Chaplain General consecrated the colours with a blessing. The new colours will be those trooped in the Trooping the Colour at the King's official birthday parade on Horse Guards Parade in London this Saturday. Charles - Colonel in Chief of the seven Guards regiments of the Household Division - will inspect the soldiers at the parade from a carriage rather than on horseback. The 75-year-old monarch has recently returned to public-facing duties while still receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer. MailOnline understands that Charles is not standing in for Kate today - because he is Colonel in Chief of the seven Guards regiments, including the Irish Guards, and presentation of new colours is by convention done by the Colonel in Chief.

Her Majesty hosted some of the world's top authors at her second annual Reading Room Literary Festival, which took place at Hampton Court Palace in South West London yesterday. During the aftermath, American thriller writer Harlan Coben introduced the Queen to her 'biggest fan' New York Times bestselling author Emily Giffin, who proclaimed it was 'an honour of a lifetime' to meet the royal. Upon meeting the Queen she took a bow, before apologising on behalf of Harlan for failing to do the same. (Pictured: Queen Camilla with American thriller writer Harlan Coben and author Emily Giffin)

Prince William spoke for us all when he said at the D-Day events: 'It's almost impossible to grasp the courage it would have taken to run into the fury of battle that day.' At the deeply moving commemoration, William was wearing a clutch of medals and standing alongside world leaders, in place of his father King Charles who has had to ration his appearances because of his cancer treatment. A moment to remember, as the baton was temporarily passed from father to son. And one that brought home to us Prince Harry's absence more than ever. How must Harry have felt observing the proceedings from the seclusion of his Californian mansion while his wife Meghan flogs jam for a living? After all, Harry was the one the veterans loved, his natural camaraderie making it easy for him to joke and laugh with them. Unlike William, Harry knows what it is like to see active service and understands in part what these brave soldiers have been through. He, too, would have been proudly sporting his medals on this most momentous of days, had he not shattered his ties with his homeland, declaring war on his family in his memoir Spare. Yet I couldn't see a single post about the 80th anniversary of D-Day on the Sussexes' website.

Princess Eugenie was photographed wearing a daring black dress as she boarded the coach taking guests to the Duke and Duchess of Westminster's wedding party yesterday. The 34-year-old royal changed out of a chic sage green frock she wore while attending the marriage service of Hugh Grosvenor, 33, and Olivia Henson, 31, at Chester Cathedral. Mother-of-two Eugenie, who is the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson , was among the 400 guests at the nuptial do dubbed the 'society wedding of the year'. Following the service, guests were seen leaving the venue in coaches to go to a lavish reception at the Grosvenor family seat, Eaton Hall, just outside Chester. The newlyweds have kept details of the party under wraps, though it has been reported that guests tucked into lemon cake during the bash. Eugenie looked glamorous in a black maxi dress, featuring short sleeves and colourful floral embroidery down its front as she made her way to the post-wedding event. (Pictured: Princess Eugenie).

Prince William has arrived at the scoiety wedding of the year, while his brother Prince Harry has agreed to stay away. The Prince of Wales will be an usher at the wedding of Olivia Henson and the Duke of Westminster- but his brother will not be in the ceremony to prevent any tension between the royals spoiling the day. The Duke, Hugh Grosvenor, and Miss Henson are getting married at Chester Cathedral amid a sea of Britain's aristocracy and landed gentry. The 7th Duke, 33, universally known as 'Hughie' to aristocratic friends, is estimated to be worth £10.42billion, making him the richest man under 40 in Britain. He is the godfather to William's son Prince George and Prince Harry's son Archie. But while William is playing a major role at the service among 400 or so expected guests, Harry has remained in California.

At noon today the bells of Chester's medieval cathedral will ring out in joyous peal for a wedding. For ambitious mothers of aristocratic daughters they may have a mournful tone, however. Their sound will mark the moment when Britain's most eligible suitor will be struck from the list of the kingdom's bachelors. Fittingly, Prince William, who once himself headed that eminent roll call, will be a witness to the moment when the handsome, dashing and very rich Hugh Grosvenor, the seventh Duke of Westminster, marries his middle-class fiancee Olivia Henson.

Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II, is set to star on the third season of The Traitors US. His appearance on the programme, which is hosted by actor Alan Cumming, is not his first foray into reality television, having previously appeared on ITV productions Keeping Up with the Aristocrats in 2022, and The Queen and her Cousins in 2021. Lord Mountbatten, 61, who is the son of Janet Mercedes Bryce and the late David Mountbatten, 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven is a second cousin of King Charles. He was a first cousin once removed of the late Prince Philip and third cousin, once removed, of Queen Elizabeth II. Despite not being a working royal, the farmer, geologist, businessman is known as the 'first openly gay royal', as the first known member of the extended British Royal family to be in a same-sex marriage. (Pictured L-R: Lord Ivar and ex-wife Penny; with husband James Coyle; during Trooping the Colour in 2005; holidaying with members of the royal family. Inset: Bridwell Park, Lord Ivar's home).

Princess Anne led the advance party for today's Royal mini-invasion of Normandy, when the King, Queen and Prince of Wales will be here for the big set-piece events to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Speaking at last night's D-Day vigil at the Commonwealth cemetery in Bayeux, the Princess quoted the memoirs of Sub-Lieutenant Keith Symons, the uncle of her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. At the age of just 20, his job was to lead three landing craft in the first assault on Gold Beach come dawn.

Prince William (left) spoke affectionately of the Princess of Wales' codebreaker grandmother as he revealed his wife 'would have loved' to attend a D-Day anniversary event with him today. The Prince of Wales, 41, joined King Charles and Queen Camilla at the event in Portsmouth this afternoon. After delivering a moving speech to veterans and leading politicians, William met with members of the public - including war hero who asked after his wife (right) amid her ongoing cancer treatment. The Prince told him: 'She is better, thanks. She would've loved to be here today.' The royal went on to reveal how he had been speaking with women who worked at Bletchley Park as codebreakers along with Kate's grandmother Valerie Middleton (inset).

Charles Spencer, 60, who lives at Althorp House in Northamptonshire, took to Instagram on Monday to share a picture of his late mother 'looking rather glam' as he remembered 'happier times' on the 20th anniversary of her death. The black-and-white image shows Frances, who passed away in 2004 at her home in Scotland, posing on what appears to be a beach, while sporting a stylish pinstripe top and headscarf. Charles captioned the photo: 'Remembering my mother, who died 20 years ago today, aged 68. She had a wretched final few years, health wise, and I prefer to think of her in happier times; here, looking rather glam, in the '60s.' Royal fans were stunned by the picture, with many saying Frances appeared the double of the late Princess.

Princes Anne has long been known for her hard work and efforts to be as down to earth as possible. That quality is typified by her love for recycling outfits, rather than splurging on new ones. But her daughter Zara Tindall , 43, has regularly proved that the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree. When Zara debuted her baby bump in January 2018 - at a Magic Millions polo event on the Gold Coast (left) - she wore a White Label Noba lace detail black mini dress. Months later (second from left), Zara recycled her dress for an outing at the The Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club in what was her first public appearance since giving birth to Lena. Beautifully elegant for the Buckingham Palace Garden party last month (right), Zara Tindall cut a fabulous figure in her Laura Green London dress. Zara last wore the satin-finish frock with puff sleeves and belted waist at Ascot in 2022 (second from left). And at the Monaco Grand Prix last year (bottom right), Zara wore a Zimmermann dress, Soek sunglasses and an Aspinal of London bag. Zara previously chose the dress for the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in 2022 (bottom left).

Lieutenant Colonel James Shaw, Brigade Major of the Household Division, who designed this year's Trooping spectacle, told The Irish Sun : 'We totally understand and our thoughts and best wishes are with Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales. 'We are even more determined to make the Colonel's Review the best yet for her. We are so proud to have The Princess of Wales as the Colonel of the Irish Guards.' Kate, 42, who is undergoing cancer treatment, would have been due to take the salute on June 8 in normal circumstances in her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards. But she continues to stay away from public royal duties during her chemotherapy while resting at home, and will only return when doctors give her the all-clear.

Thomas James, who worked summers and Christmas breaks at the 13,000-acre Althorp estate when he wasn't studying at the University of Oxford , alleged he wasn't allowed to have rest breaks or take lunch during nine hour shifts. The young worker even claimed Earl Spencer, Diana's younger brother Charles (pictured right and left with Diana), once 'chastised' him for leaving his post for respite at the estate near Northampton. Mr James, now in his early 20s, sought damages from Earl Spencer's estate for age discrimination and constructive unfair dismissal. But an employment tribunal dismissed the case and judge Robin Postle ruled that Mr James' claims 'do not stack up' and 'lack any credibility whatsoever'. In regards to the claims Mr James was 'chastised' by Earl Spencer, the tribunal accepted evidence from the Earl 'that this allegation never took place' and that 'the event did not happen in any event'.

King Charles was pictured looking happy and relaxed as he met Latvia 's President Edgars Rinkevics in a private audience at Buckingham Palace today. Charles was seen shaking hands with the politician this afternoon and wore a light grey suit, a matching pink and grey patterned tie and a blue and white pocket handkerchief. The monarch appeared in good spirits as he welcomed Mr Rinkevics to the Palace on the second day of the leader's three-day working visit to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Following his meeting with King Charles, the president tweeted: 'It was an honour and pleasure to meet His Majesty King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, I thanked the United Kingdom for continuous support and friendship with Latvia.' Mr Rinkevics was sworn into office in 2023, having served as Latvia's top diplomat since 2011.

Questions around whether the royal family should be made to partake in National Service have arisen after Rishi Sunak announced plans to revive the scheme. Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte will be expected to undertake the scheme when they turn 18, with details confirming that there will be 'very limited exceptions' to get out of the service and that the young royals will not be exempt. Today, senior minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan said 'the vast majority of our young people' would be expected to turn out for the mandatory programme under Rishi Sunak's new election proposal. It would see all 18-year-olds do either a paid year in the military or spend a weekend a month doing unpaid work in the community. The manifesto pledge has ignited the first major row of the election campaign. But speaking to Sky News about whether royals would be made to take part, Trevelyan said it would be down to a Royal Commission to decide the scope.

She was born to an overweight German duchess who fled Britain due to her debts. On this day in 1867, Mary of Teck (pictured left in 1873, centre in 1895 and right in 1935) arrived into the world at Kensington Palace, with Queen Victoria describing her as a 'very fine child'. Her mother, Mary Adelaide of Cambridge, was a first cousin of Victoria. But she and her husband - Austrian-born Prince Franz of Teck - let the high life get the better of them and had to leave Britain for Europe. Despite her parents' financial difficulties, Mary would go on to marry one future King - George V - and give birth to two more - the short-lived Edward VIII and George VI : the dutiful younger brother who replaced him. She became a much-loved Queen, a woman who helped shepherd her family and the nation through the Second World War - and garnered a pet pig (inset right) along the way. Mary went on to be a mentor to her granddaughter Elizabeth (pictured inset with Mary and her sister Margaret) as she became the Queen in the most tragic of circumstances for them both.

She was a startlingly striking English beauty who was the uncrowned 'queen' of Greece for almost 12 years - yet nobody now knows her name. She does not appear in official documents, has no place in the history books or in authorised biographies. She has been airbrushed from history. But Joyce Brittain-Jones (pictured left with her first husband) was the great love of King George II (middle) - the secret mistress whose support was vital when Greece came up against Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Known variously as 'J', Miss Brown, and Mrs Jones, she kept in the shadows. Without her, George (pictured top right with his wife Elisabeth and inset with US President Franklin Roosevelt) - a first-cousin of Prince Philip - wouldn't have been able to cope with the pressures of war. Joyce was his rock.

Prince William will attend the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium tomorrow and present the trophy to the winners, Kensington Palace has confirmed. The Prince of Wales, who is the Football Association's president, will sit in the Royal Box for the match between Manchester City and Manchester United from 3pm. The 41-year-old's attendance at the showpiece game in North West London in front of 90,000 fans was confirmed by palace officials at 9.30am this morning. But royal aides did not say whether he would be joined by any of his children, after Prince George has been seen at Aston Villa matches earlier this season. William's wife Kate will definitely not be at Wembley as she continues to stay away from the public spotlight while receiving chemotherapy treatment for cancer . It comes after the Royal Family revealed on Wednesday that it had postponed engagements 'which may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign' after Rishi Sunak called a surprise summer General Election for July 4.

Sarah, Duchess of York,64, was appearing at the Knights Of Charity gala dinner in Cannes, where she was reunited with her old chum and rumoured ex-boyfriend Manuel Fernandez, 56. Announcing her support for Generation Z, she said: 'I can relate to the pressure they face because Fergie's always been judged.' The Duchess was enjoying visiting the South of France after being diagnosed with two types of cancer in the span of eight months.

Queen Camilla today joined 500 mourners at a funeral for her friend Ian Farquhar, after the death of the renowned horseman and legendary hunting figure aged 78. Captain Farquhar's daughter Rose, whom Prince William dated in 2000, was also at the service in Badminton, Gloucestershire, with her husband George Gemmell. William and his 'first love' Rose remain friends, and he attended her wedding to former professional polo player Mr Gemmell in nearby Tetbury in December 2022. Captain Farquhar, who was also close friends with King Charles III, previously lived on the monarch's Highgrove estate in the county where he rented a farmhouse. The Old Etonian was found dead at his home near Chippenham in Wiltshire by his carer on the afternoon of March 6 after struggling to breathe, an inquest later heard. Today, Camilla attended the memorial service for Captain Farquhar at St Michael and All Angels' Church on the Badminton estate which is owned by the Duke of Beaufort.

Princess Beatrice, 35, read to children in Reception and Year One during a surprise trip to West Thornton Primary School in Croydon. Beatrice was casual but chic and donned a simple black and white patterned dress paired with a cropped blue denim jacket with puffy sleeves, simple silver hoops and a gold bracelet. She looked in high spirits as she sat down with a classroom of kids and read When Dinosaurs Walked the Earth by Sean Taylor and Zehra Hicks.

Prince Harry turned down an invitation by the King to stay at a royal residence when he visited the UK earlier this month because he had 'security concerns', it has been claimed. He is said to have declined his father's offer because it did not come with any taxpayer-funded personal security provision, which would leave him staying in a 'visible location with public entrance and exit points and no police protection'. Instead he chose to stay at a hotel - presumably with members of the public - because it meant he 'could come and go unseen', claimed The Telegraph .

Families of the Birmingham pub bombing victims yesterday demanded that a former IRA commander implicated in the atrocity be arrested after he confessed to being behind Lord Mountbatten's (pictured, left) murder. Michael Hayes (right) told The Mail on Sunday that he designed and masterminded the attack that blew up the pleasure boat of King Charles 's beloved great-uncle in 1979. The unrepentant grandfather has always denied claims he was responsible for the two Birmingham blasts, which killed 21 people in 1974, despite claiming to have defused a third device. Yesterday Julie Hambleton (inset), whose sister Maxine, 18, was killed in the atrocity and who has led the Birmingham families' fight for justice, said that Hayes 'absolutely should be arrested'. Ms Hambleton, 61, added: 'He has made admissions, and if you or I said such a thing our feet wouldn't touch the ground.' Lord Mountbatten, a mentor to Prince Philip and Charles, was murdered aged 79 during a holiday at his summer home in Co Sligo.

The King and Queen will miss the 'society wedding of the year', over claims they have not forgotten about what happened at the 2004 wedding of Hugh's sister. They turned down their invitations at the time to Lady Tamara Grosvenor and Edward van Cutsem's wedding, which was held at the same venue as the duke's upcoming wedding: Chester Cathedral. Camilla Parker Bowles, as she was then, had been told that she would not be allowed to sit with Prince Charles and would instead be seated several rows back and be made to arrive separately. Another aspect of the upcoming wedding that has been the talk of the town for months is why Prince Harry may have turned down an invitation from his old friend. Now friends of the Royal Family think they have solved the mystery, claiming that Prince Harry refused to attend when he discovered his brother William had been given a prominent role. Tonight the Sunday Times reported that the Prince of Wales will be an usher at the duke's wedding to Olivia Henson.

On June 7, 1977, a million people crowded into The Mall to watch Elizabeth II and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh set off in the State Coach to travel through central London. The beloved Queen and Philip were going to St Paul's Cathedral for a service of thanksgiving to mark 25 years of her reign. Across the country, millions more joined in the celebrations with street parties: trestle tables, bunting and sausage rolls marked the Queen's Silver Jubilee. But on the Thames that day, a different sort of celebration was taking place. Punk band the Sex Pistols (inset top) had hired a boat to celebrate their notorious single, God Save The Queen. The Pistols' notoriety - first achieved for swearing on TV, wearing as many chains and safety pins as possible, and behaving badly at all times - had been confirmed with the lyrics of God Save The Queen, which had nothing to do with the National Anthem. They sang: 'God save the queen / the fascist regime / they made you a moron / a potential H bomb.'God save the queen / she's not a human being and there's no future / and England's dreaming.' On its release, the song was banned from the BBC and other radio stations around the country, whilst retailers such as WH Smith and Woolworths refused to sell it. The cover for the single showed Her Majesty, with the words God Save The Queen, written using cut out letters from newspapers. And now the image (left) has acquired what could well be described as royal approval: it is appearing in an exhibition of royal portraiture at the King's Gallery at Buckingham Palace. Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography, which opened yesterday. It has something in common with artist Andy Warhol's famous work (right). They are both based on a photograph (inset) of the late Queen taken by Peter Grugeon.

Of all the troubles to have afflicted the Royal Family this year, none has been more devastating than the tragic death of Thomas Kingston, the 45-year-old husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor. Handsome and popular, Tom died from what was described as a traumatic head wound in February. A gun was found near his body in an outbuilding at his parents' home in the Cotswolds. This weekend will be particularly poignant for Lady Gabriella, as Saturday is the fifth anniversary of her wedding at St George's Chapel, Windsor - a joyful occasion with the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip among the guests. Now, I can reveal details of how the Royal Family is helping her recover from the ordeal.

Dressed in a blue-patterned dress and matching hat, the Love Island host, 29, greeted King Charles, 75, and Queen Camilla , 76, and reminisced about her previous work - and awkward faux pas - with the monarch's charity, the Prince's Trust. She has previously attended fundraisers such as the Prince's Trust charity gala in 2022 and was also photographed meeting Charles in his role as the Prince of Wales at a trust event in 2019. At the garden party, Jama was humble about her previous encounters with the King as she apologised for previously breaking royal protocol.

The route, which, once completed, will be a 2,700-mile National Trail around the whole of the English coast, was supposed to be fully open this year as the world's longest continuous coastal route. The flagship project began under PM Gordon Brown in 2009 and was named in honour of the King for the Coronation by Therese Coffey in 2023. So far 1,040 miles of it are open to walkers. However, a huge chunk of the route through East Yorkshire will have to go back to the drawing board because coastal erosion has made the clifftop paths too dangerous to walk on. Natural England believe it can be remapped by next year - but locals living next to the route on the Holderness Coast say it will be more like five because of difficulty tracing the land owners for renegotiations on public access.

The Palace sent a letter with 'the Queen's warmest wishes' to the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) which vowed Camilla 'will not procure any new fur garments'. The animal-rights group toasted the news with a glass of the finest claret and its managing director Ingrid Newkirk said: 'It's right and proper for the British monarchy to reflect British values by recognising that fur has no place in our society.' The letter did not state whether she would no longer wear any existing real-fur outfits, the BBC reported. She has followed in the footsteps of the late Queen Elizabeth II who made headlines in 2019 when Her Late Majesty's senior dresser Angela Kelly revealed she was no longer using real fur in her outfits. Camilla secretly switched to fake fur hats back in 2017 after receiving a barrage of criticism for wearing a Russian-style real fur hat to the Royal Family's Sandringham Christmas Day church seven years earlier. The latest row back by the royals continues the Palace's move towards becoming environmentally friendly with King Charles long championing green causes.

The couple, who left Abuja yesterday following a three-day visit, were pictured being whisked away by a car at Los Angeles International Airport's 'Private Suites' facility. The Duke and Duchess have called the semi-royal tour 'fantastic' and said it will be the 'first of many memorable trips' - which included a moment where Meghan hailed Nigeria as 'her country' after a DNA test suggested she was part-Nigerian. They landed back in the United States a few hours before Californian authorities confirmed a 'delinquency' row involving their charitable endeavour, the Archewell Foundation, had been resolved following confusion over an unprocessed cheque.

King Charles today unveiled the first completed official portrait of himself since the Coronation at Buckingham Palace. The painting, by the renowned artist Jonathan Yeo, was commissioned in 2020 to celebrate the then-Prince of Wales's 50 years as a member of The Drapers' Company. It depicts His Majesty wearing the uniform of the Welsh Guards, of which he was made Regimental Colonel in 1975. Today, Yeo spoke of a butterfly on the portrait echoing Charles's 'metamorphosis' from Prince to King during the process - and the monarch joked that it was nice to know he was a chrysalis. Yeo added: 'People often say is there a secret to doing a good portrait? And I say I don't know really. Actually I think there is one, and that's having an interesting subject to start with. And you couldn't ask for a better one than this, other than Her Majesty.' As he gestured towards Camilla - whom he painted in 2014 - the comment was greeted with much laughter in the palace. The canvas size - approximately 8.5ft by 6.5ft framed - was carefully considered to fit within the architecture of Drapers' Hall and the context of the paintings it will eventually hang alongside. Yeo had four sittings with The King, beginning when His Majesty was Prince of Wales in June 2021 at Highgrove, and later at Clarence House.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Archewell Foundation has claimed that a cheque going missing in the post is why a US charity regulator has declared it 'delinquent'. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's organisation is 'not in good standing' according to the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers in California , where the couple live. It said Archewell failed to correctly submit its annual report or renewal fees and has been banned from either fundraising or distributing charitable funds for now. But Sussex sources insist the paperwork was filed on time, with the discrepancy down to a 'cheque' which accompanied the documents going missing in the post. They also maintain that 'a new cheque has been mailed', which should mean the issue will be 'quickly resolved' - but the revelation will likely cause embarrassment.

Dressed like a Hollywood A-lister at the Oscars , Meghan Markle's perma-smile throughout her three-day 'royal tour' in Nigeria said it all: 'I've won.' As she flies back to Los Angeles today, with a stop-over at Heathrow, she can reflect on having established herself as a popular British royal in Nigeria. I doubt she can quite believe it. In a brilliantly choreographed succession of events, the Duchess of Sussex could luxuriate in the sort of attention for which every Californian film star yearns.

As Meghan and Harry greeted Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday afternoon, London-based photographer and close friend Misan Harriman stood behind them. The Sussexes walked hand-in-hand as they arrived at the State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's house, where they were guests of honour, and Misan dutifully snapped the moment. (Pictured L: Misan capturing the moment Meghan greeted State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Inset is Meghan and Misan during a Netflix Q&A; in December 2023)

Prince Harry has flaunted his 'presidential-style' four-man security team on his 'quasi-royal' trip of Nigeria. Critics have claimed the trip to the ninth most dangerous country in Africa is 'hypocritical' and have branded it the 'Harry and Meghan show'. Former royal protection officer Dai Davies said: 'Seeing all his presidential style security really does stick in the throat. 'For a couple who say all they want is privacy to visit one of the most dangerous places in the world and that's not me saying that, it's the Foreign office as well, is crazy and you have to wonder why.

Prince William discussed his wife's health during a visit to St Mary's Community Hospital on the Isles of Scilly. William is continuing with his royal duties while Kate receives treatment for abdominal cancer, following her 'shock' announcement in March that she had been diagnosed and was receiving chemotherapy. The Prince couldn't resist snapping up the South West's most famous savoury treat as his tour continues today - and suggested he was taking some of the edible souvenirs home for his family.

The divide between the Spencers and the Windsors was highlighted by those who did and didn't attend Prince Harry's Invictus Games service, an expert claimed today. Harry gave warm hugs to his uncle Earl Spencer and aunt Lady Jane Fellowes at St Paul's Cathedral before the event to celebrate the competition's 10th anniversary. Princess Diana's siblings were also joined by former army officer Mark Dyer, who acted as the Duke of Sussex 's mentor after his mother's death in Paris in 1997. Other notable guests at the service in London yesterday included his cousin Louis Spencer, lawyer David Sherbourne and the Prime Minister's wife Akshata Murty. But there were no senior royals with Harry, as they instead put on a show of unity for King Charles who attended a Buckingham Palace garden party two miles away. Former BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole said it was notable that none of Harry's royal blood relatives - including his father and brother William, who attended the inaugural Invictus event in London at Harry's side in 2014 - were at St Paul's.

Prince Harry's 'lack of body engagement' during his walkabout in London gave him 'the option of a face-saving exit' if he had a bad reception, an expert said today. The Duke of Sussex greeted crowds as he left St Paul's Cathedral alone yesterday following a service to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. The estranged royal, who was met with cheers from well-wishers, beamed as he shook hands and joked around with hundreds of people who lined up to greet him. And body language expert Judi James told MailOnline that he clearly marked the walkabout as 'brief and impromptu via his body language announcement rituals'. These included 'bending towards the crowd and hunching his shoulders to avoid giving the impression that this was a scheduled event', the psychologist added. She also said that he showed 'signals of inner anxiety' both before and after the service.

The Duke of Westminster's wedding next month is the most anticipated society event of the year. And the Duke, Hugh Grosvenor, 33, and his fiancée, Olivia Henson, 31, have been carrying out a very regal string of engagements this week in Chester, where they are due to exchange vows, visiting three charities - Cheshire Dance, Storyhouse and the Cathedral Music Trust. Prince George's godfather and Olivia, who works at sustainable food company Belazu, chatted with participants at a Young Leaders workshop. They later sat next to each other in the pews at Chester Cathedral, where their wedding will be held. They joined family music programme where Hugh joked: 'Next time we're in here will be slightly more nerve-wracking. 'He added: 'But I'm unbelievably excited.' (pictured: The Duke of Westminster and Olivia Henson).

In a 1963 court hearing, Margaret Campbell was accused by her alcoholic, gambler husband, the 11th Duke of Argyll (couple shown right), of taking 88 lovers. In the damning judgement that resulted, the Duchess was described by the judge as a 'completely promiscuous woman' who had indulged in 'disgusting sexual activities' and whose attitude to marriage was 'wholly immoral'. The Duke also revealed a series of photographs that showed his soon-to-be former wife naked and cavorting with other men. One of them, allegedly taken in 1956, showed her performing oral sex on a man whose face was not shown. He quickly became known as the 'headless man' but was never identified. Sandys (inset), the then defence minister, was among the five men who were touted as being the possible lover. Now, as a Channel 5 TV documentary explores her life and the divorce case that scandalised the nation, historian Christopher Wilson has told MailOnline that he is convinced Sandys was the headless man. 'I think it was almost certainly Duncan. He offered to resign from the cabinet. That tells you it was him,' he said.

Prince Harry's arrival in Britain had triggered speculation that father and son would meet. There was even murmur of an olive branch being extended. Instead, the hand-wringing excuses of 'full diaries' offers a different and, for Harry, a more ominous message. Unlike that dramatic flying visit in February, where the Prince was granted a less than 30-minute meeting just after Charles's cancer diagnosis had been made public, the palace gates remained firmly closed.

Queen Mary (right) looked elegant in a ruby long sleeved gown on the second day of her state visit to Sweden. The Danish monarch, 52, looked typically stylish as she was greeted by Queen Silvia , 80, (left) during a visit to Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde museum in Stockholm, Sweden, on Tuesday. The royal wowed in a vibrant scarlet dress for the occasion, which she paired with a gold brooch pinned to her lapel.

King Charles is predicted to finish building the final quadrant of his Poundbury model town in 2028 - with the area set to become one of the most sought after in the country. Poundbury is on Duchy of Cornwall land near Dorset in Dorchester, and wasKing Charles' vision of an utopian idyll, where private and affordable housing mix with boutique shops, places of work and services like schools and medical centres within walking distance. The royal started working on the project in the late 1980s, and since then, it has grown to boast around 2,320 homes, 4,600 residents and 240 businesses employing 2,400 people. Poundbury was named one of the best places to live in Britain by The Sunday Times last year (pictured L-R: King Charles; an aerial view of Poundbury's Great Field. The first anniversary of King Charles III and Queen Camilla 's Coronation was marked in six locations across Britain today with a series of gun salutes. The salutes were heard in London at noon with 41 volleys fired from Green Park by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, accompanied by the Band of the Irish Guards. Three miles away and one hour later at 1pm, the Honourable Artillery Company fired a 62-gun salute from Tower Wharf - an extra 21 for the City of London. Salutes also took place at Cardiff Castle, Edinburgh Castle and Hillsborough Castle today as the UK remembered the big day at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023. And in York, a 21-gun royal salute was fired by a 4th Regiment Royal Artillery saluting troop of three light guns with music from the Band of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment.

He was crowned in a majestic ceremony (inset) inside Westminster Abbey a year ago today. But in the year since that stunning day, His Majesty has had a lot to deal with, both personally and as a father, husband and as head of the Royal Family. He continues to undergo cancer treatment after his diagnosis in February (bottom left), which was followed by the Princess of Wales's own shock health news. The nation was stunned when Kate revealed (top right) in March that she too is suffering from cancer, which was found after she underwent major abdominal surgery at the same time as Charles was initially treated for an enlarged prostate (left, leaving hospital). It came after the Royal Family was rocked by the death of Thomas Kingston, the son-in-law of the King's cousin Prince Michael of Kent . He took his own life at his parents' home on February 25. And in April, Charles grappled with renewed focus on his disgraced brother Prince Andrew amid the release of Netflix drama Scoop (centre right), which focused on his disastrous Newsnight interview following his relationship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and the fallout from the sexual assault allegations made by Virginia Giuffre. It came after the publication of Omid Scobie's book Endgame (bottom right) in November last year.

Pomp and pageantry reigned at his Coronation one year ago. But, after a whirlwind 12 months, it's understandable King Charles would prefer much less fanfare this time around. The King will celebrate the first anniversary of his Coronation today in low-key style with close friends at Windsor. Even his wife, Queen Camilla, is unlikely to be present as she is with her own family at her private Wiltshire home, Ray Mill House. It is understood that His Majesty wishes to mark the day 'in his mother's mould' with very little fuss, as his accession is so intrinsically bound with the sad loss of Queen Elizabeth. But it is still unknown whether he will meet with his youngest son, Prince Harry , when he flies into London this week.

Twelve months on from the spectacle of the Coronation , we remember a magnificent ceremony and a piece of history to remain with us down the decades. Most of us do, at least. But a small handful of royal insiders and liturgical specialists continue to look back on the occasion - watched by a peak UK audience of 20 million people - with more dismay than joy. In palace corridors, cathedral vestries and parliamentary ante-rooms, some still whisper that the crowning of King Charles III and Queen Camilla was a 'Cut-Price Coronation' with splendour, ceremony and tradition sacrificed on the twin altars of cost and 'accessiblity'.

Seeming, once again, to present themselves as an alternative royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will undertake a very regal visit to Nigeria next week, following their royal tour of Africa in 2019 (pictured). Invited by the West African nation's highest-ranking military official, the Chief of Defence Staff, Prince Harry and Meghan are guaranteed to receive the sort of security which they expected British taxpayers to provide. Harry, you might recall, sought a judicial review of the Home Office 's decision to strip him, Meghan, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, of their automatic right to police security in Britain after they chose to quit royal duties and seek their fortune across the Atlantic. King Charles's younger son lost the case in February, with the action estimated to have cost him about £1million, including his own legal costs and those due to the Home Office. There will be no such worries for Harry and Meghan next week, when the security tab will be paid by the government of Nigeria, a country where an estimated 87million people live below the poverty line.

ROBERT HARDMAN: His tie said it all. It has been a favourite since he became King, appearing on away days, at Palace receptions and even a trip to church. Featuring a blue dinosaur pattern on a pink silk background, it is a cheeky play on his official 'Charles III Rex' cypher. Staff know that when 'C-Rex' is wearing his 'T-Rex' tie, he probably has a spring in his step. And so it was as the King came to the Macmillan Cancer Centre at London 's University College Hospital to mark his cautious return to regular public duties for the first time since his own diagnosis in February.

A spokesman for the couple confirmed that Meghan would not accompany Prince Harry to a service at St Paul's Cathedral to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games for injured service personnel on May 8. But they said she would be at his side for an 'Invictus-inspired' visit to Africa immediately after the duke leaves the UK. Harry last returned to Britain in February for a brief 30-minute meeting with his father after it was announced that he was being treated for cancer.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, will fly to Britain next month for the first time since the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis. Neither the Sussexes' office nor Buckingham Palace have confirmed any plans for Harry to meet with either his brother Prince William, sister-in-law Princess Kate, or his father King Charles. He will give a reading at St Paul's Cathedral on May 8 to mark the Games' tenth anniversary, but no mention has been made of the attendance of any senior royal or his wife Meghan Markle, 42, and their two children - Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. It is thought Harry will stay in a hotel during his stay in the UK - as he done on his previous recent visits - before days later jetting off to Nigeria to join Meghan.

The Duke of Edinburgh was a larger-than-life character, but even he paled to next to his colourful aunt, Marie. A relative of Napoleon Bonaparte she was a fascinating character, famed for her all-consuming interest in sex and psychoanalysis, her friendship with Sigmund Freud and her unconventional lifestyle. Born Marie Bonaparte in 1882, Marie was the great-granddaughter of Napoleon I's rebellious younger brother Lucien. She was fabulously rich thanks to her maternal grandfather François Blanc who made his fortune on real-estate development in Monaco, buying 97 percent of the casino in Monte Carlo.

Made from strawberries grown in her sun-drenched Californian garden, decanted into jars with handwritten labels, and delivered in bountiful presentation baskets to an elite group of friends and influencers, this is no ordinary jam. For almost two weeks now, the debut product from American Riviera Orchard, Meghan Markle 's elusive new lifestyle brand, has been making waves on social media. Jars have been appearing on the Instagram profiles of her nearest and dearest, including comedian Mindy Kaling , polo player Nacho Figueras and actress Abigail Spencer , who trilled 'This jam is my jam' - and draped herself over a jar for a fawning al fresco photoshoot. No, not names we would recognise here, but let's face it, we are not her target audience.

Kate, 42, has been made a Royal Companion of the organisation, which was founded by King George V in 1917 to recognise outstanding achievements in the arts, sciences, medicine and public service. The Mail understands it is the first time that a member of the royal family has been appointed in the order's century-long history. Sources say it is a symbol of the 'great esteem' the princess is held in by her father-in-law, King Charles. As well as being a personal thank you for her loyal service to the Crown since she married Prince William almost 13 years ago, it is also an acknowledgment of her contribution to the arts. The Princess of Wales has received a unique honour from the King in recognition of her years of public service after being appointed to The Order of the Companions of Honour. The is the historic moment the first memorial statue to the late Queen is unveiled on what would have been her 98th birthday, featuring her beloved Corgis at her heels. The unveiling was done to the cheers of crowds - and the approving barks of nearly 50 corgis as a delegation of dogs from The Welsh Corgi League were in attendance. The eye-catching seven-foot bronze statue went on display on what would have been the late Queen's 98th birthday with a group of corgis stealing the show.Over her decades on the throne, the late Queen owned an estimated 30 corgis and dorgis (dachshund and corgi mixes) and perhaps became the most famous Pembroke Welsh Corgi owner in history.

When 23-year-old Anne Coke married the Scottish aristocrat Colin Tennant at St Withburga's Parish Church in Norfolk on 21 April 1956, it must have seemed like a fairytale match. After all Lady Anne, the daughter of the 5th Earl of Leicester, was a wealthy and beautiful former Debutante of the Year whose family had been close confidantes of the Royals family for generations. Her grandmother was Edward VIII's mistress and her father an equerry to George VI, while she had been maid of honour at the late Queen's coronation three years earlier and would later become lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret. Indeed, Anne had been great friends with the young Princesses Margaret and Elizabeth ever since they had played together as children both at Sandringham and at her own grand home a few miles away - Holkham Hall, a stunning Palladian mansion set in its own glorious 25,000-acre estate. The suave and charismatic Hon. Colin, meanwhile, was heir to Baron Glenconner and the family's 3,500-acre estate at The Glen, near Traquair in the Scottish Borders. As part of Princess Margaret's rather raffish set, he knew many glamorous people from the world of literature, art and show business.

The ties between the Spencers and the Monarchy go back not just generations but centuries. Even today, the family can claim descent from a number of royal bloodlines and over such a period, they make the Windsors look like arrivistes. The wedding of Lady Jane Spencer, then, was bound to be an event - and it was no surprise when she, like little sister Diana, chose someone with connections. True, Robert Fellowes was not heir to the throne. But he was already assistant private secretary to the late Queen - and a first cousin of Ronald Ferguson, the father of Sarah Ferguson - when he married Lady Jane at Westminster Abbey on April 20, 1978.

King Charles' goddaughter, India Hicks, posted about her mother, Lady Pamela Hicks, on her Instagram account and revealed the precious story behind her unexpected birth in 1929. India began the post and said: 'My mother's arrival into this world was somewhat of a surprise.' She then went on to say that her grandmother, Edwina Mountbatten, was eight months pregnant with Lady Pamela when she went on a trip to Spain for a few days. She added that her determined grandmother was 'not going to be stopped' from going abroad.

Queen Elizabeth was a wise woman, writes RICHARD EDEN. And when she needed to take decisive action, she did. That is why she decided the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could not be allowed to combine royal duties with seeking their fortune overseas. And why she ignored Prince Harry's efforts to persuade her otherwise. In his best-selling memoir, Spare, Harry tries to convince readers that his grandmother was bamboozled into taking a tough line against him and Meghan by scheming courtiers. In my opinion, however, Her Late Majesty knew exactly what she was doing and why. Now, King Charles needs to take a leaf out of his mother's book - and be decisive when it comes to his younger son and his role as a Counsellor of State. As things stand, California-based Prince Harry could still be called on to stand in for his father in some circumstances - which is surely now intolerable.

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Princess Beatrice's pal Alice Naylor-Leyland (pictured) has surprised friends by announcing that she and her husband have had a child using a surrogate mother. She already has three children with Tom Naylor-Leyland (pictured), who is heir to a baronetcy and the £176million Fitzwilliam landowning fortune. 'I'm aware it was greedy to have this burning desire to complete our family,' she says. 'But due to too many complications, setbacks, miscarriages and then being told I was no longer able to carry, we decided to venture down the world of surrogacy.' Sharing a photograph online of the newborn baby's foot with a pink tag, she thanks the unnamed surrogate mother.

RICHARD EDEN: Television personality Susannah Constantine , who was the girlfriend of Margaret's son, David, the Earl of Snowdon , for six years in the 1980s, has made the extraordinary revelation that the princess would secretly enter the holiday homes of rich and famous people who lived on Mustique in the West Indies. Margaret was given a ten-acre plot of land on the southern tip of the tiny island as a wedding present from flamboyant Scottish aristocrat Colin Tennant, the 3rd Lord Glenconner, who bought Mustique and transformed it into a playground for the jet set. 'She loved snooping round people's houses,' says Susannah, 61, the former co-host of What Not To Wear. Referring to the overbearing and sinister housekeeper in Daphne du Maurier's gothic novel Rebecca, she adds: 'She was like Mrs Danvers, and virtually had a master key for every house on the island.'

Queen Mary, King Frederik, Queen Margrethe and her sister, Princess Benedikte, posed outside Fredensborg Castle today alongside Margrethe's beloved sausage dog Tilia, who was also in attendance. The family celebrated privately at the royal residence, a setting used for important events in the family such as weddings, silver wedding anniversaries and birthdays. The monarch opted for a sapphire blue tie, matching the same colour scheme as his wife in a display of sartorial solidarity amid rumours of marital strife in recent months.

The Duchess of Sussex is due to start filming her first solo series for Netflix on Tuesday, but viewers hoping that it will give them a glimpse into Meghan's enviable lifestyle are going to be left sorely disappointed. For The Daily Mail's Richard Eden can disclose that the programme will not be filmed at the home she shares with Prince Harry. Instead, the series - which will, according to the American streaming giant, 'celebrate the joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining and friendship' - is to be shot at another property in their expensive California neighbourhood. 'Netflix has rented a house in Montecito for filming,' a source said.

The royals have paid tribute to victims of the horrific knife attack in Sydney today (pictured, left) with King Charles III and Queen Camilla saying they are 'shocked and horrified' by the incident, while Kate and William (right) sent thoughts to the families of those involved. In a statement this afternoon, the King said: 'My wife and I were utterly shocked and horrified to hear of the tragic stabbing incident in Bondi. 'Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those who have been so brutally killed during such a senseless attack.'

FROM the moment that Prince William began dating Kate Middleton two decades ago, he made it clear that his relationship with his in-laws was non-negotiable. Since then, the close-knit Middleton family has been integrated into the fold of the Royal family and invited to key events such as Royal Ascot , the late Queen's Diamond and Platinum Jubilees and the King's Coronation. Now Kate's mother Carole has become 'the driving force' as the family helps care for the Prince and Princess of Wales in the wake of Catherine's cancer diagnosis -  stepping into the breach to help look after George, ten, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, six.

Prince Harry, 39, made another cameo in the posh world of polo as he huddled with players on the sidelines of a US Open quarterfinal on Saturday. He joined the Valiente team behind the scenes as they prepared to take on Coca-Cola at the National Polo Center in Wellington, Florida. The prince cut a low-key figure in black jeans and a grey t-shirt - but his arrival was given away by a dozen-strong Netflix film crew who were on hand to shoot his interactions with the awe-struck players. He and Meghan were the main attraction Friday afternoon as they attended a charity game at the Royal Salute Polo Challenge at the swank Grand Champions Polo Club.

The Duchess, 42, was seen in Palm Beach this weekend as she joined her husband Prince Harry for his new Netflix show about the genteel world of polo. She ditched her elegant white sundress and towering stilettos for a more casual outfit for Saturday's shoot, donning a light blue linen button-down shirt and breezy white pants. Completing her ensemble were matching cream-colored Hermes flat sandals, priced at $760 on the French designer brand's website. Harry and Meghan were the main attraction Friday afternoon as they attended a charity game at the Royal Salute Polo Challenge at the swank Grand Champions Polo Club.
