Supporting Global Surveillance of Infectious Diseases
WHONET is a free desktop Windows application for the management and analysis of microbiology laboratory data with a particular focus on antimicrobial resistance surveillance developed and supported by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. WHONET, available in 44 languages, supports local, national, regional, and global surveillance efforts in over 2,300 hospital, public health, animal health, and food laboratories in over 130 countries worldwide.
WHONET has modules for laboratory configuration, data entry, data analysis, public health reporting, and data encryption among others. WHONET also includes a data import software called BacLink for the capture and standardization of data from existing desktop applications, laboratory instruments, and laboratory information systems to avoid the need for double-entry of data.
We are happy to announce the release of WHONET 2024! The new software includes the 2024 CLSI and EUCAST human and animal breakpoints, as well as epidemiological cutoff values.
Most WHONET users have modern 64-bit computers with a recent 64-bit version of Microsoft Office. For these users, we would suggest that you download the 64-bit version of WHONET. However, it is possible that you may have a modern 64-bit computer, but a 32-bit version of Microsoft Office. In this situation, we recommend that you install the 32-bit version of WHONET to have the best compatibility with your versions of Excel and Word.
