Westmorland and Furness Council elections

All 65 members of Westmorland and Furness Council unitary authority in England are elected every four years.

Political control

The first election to the council was held in 2022, initially operating as a shadow authority until 1 April 2023 when the new council took over the functions in of the abolished Cumbria County Council and the three abolished district councils of Barrow-in-Furness Borough Council, Eden District Council, and South Lakeland District Council. Political control of the council since 2023 has been held by the following parties:[1]

Leadership

Political leadership is provided by the leader of the council. The first leader is Jonathan Brook, a Liberal Democrat, who was also the last leader of South Lakeland District Council.[2][3]
