Summary of the book: Transition and Post Transition: Energy and Technological Author: Vojin Grković Publishers: Society of Engineers in Zrenjanin and City National Library in Zrenjanin, Serbia Year of publishing: 2024 Language: Serbian The book is structured in six chapters. In the first chapter, the ideas that could have preceded the design and development of the concept of transition are discussed. In the scientific community, it was a knowledge-based awareness of the necessity for finding ways to overcome multiple crises humanity was facing. For the key holders of power, it was much safer to design and implement complex changes in advance that will greatly change society and the world, which will not endanger their position, but will bring them undoubted benefits. Based on such an observation, the definition of social transition is given as the planned and managed development of the productive forces of society within the framework of existing production relations and without changing those relations. In the second chapter is presented a categorical apparatus for researching the process of technical system’s transition. At the same time, the need for scientific dealing with the system’s post-transition is defined, not only as inevitable natural continuation of the system’s existence after already finished transition process, but also as a possibility for goodness confirmation of the previously determined transition path. In the second, as well as in each of the following chapters, an appropriate review of the literature is given. In the third chapter, the energy transition is analyzed and discussed. The energy system, as well as its transition paths are defined. Preservation of earth planet and sustainable development as the main goals of the energy transition are considered and discussed. The importance of incorporating technologies and resources in the supporting pillars of sustainable development concept is emphasized. The options of energy transition paths from primary energy of solid fossil fuels to primary energy that will not emit carbon dioxide during the process of its transformation into secondary energy are considered. In this sense, options for the use of solar and wind primary energy, nuclear primary energy, as well as biomass and biogas, are analyzed. Further are researched specific energy transition indicators that can indicate how far the ongoing energy transition has progressed along the pre-planned path. Examples of some projected energy transitions are reviewed. The implications of the energy transition on the strategies of energy companies are also reviewed and discussed. The problems of a just energy transition is particularly discussed. Finally, is given a contribution to the definition of the term energy post transition. Fourth chapter is devoted to technological transition. The technological transition of energy and electric power systems is analyzed in detail. The concept of competitiveness of the power system in the technological transition is defined. The concept is based on the assessment of the ability of the power system in one transition path to compete, that is, to be more successful than the same power system in another transition path. Specific costs arising in the technological transition of power systems are identified. Specific indicators of the competitiveness of the power system’s technological transition are presented. The indicator related to overall cost, carbon dioxide emission and energy produced, as well as the dispatchability indicators are explained. The suitability and applicability of each of those indicators is surveyed. A contribution to the analysis of the competitiveness of the electric power system in the technological transition is given with the use of a specifically developed model and the considered indicators. One hypothetical power system in a hypothetical technological transition, and nine real power systems in nine European countries in hypothetical technological transitions, are especially analyzed. The general conclusion of these analyses is that the electric power system is more competitive on the technological transition path from power plants with solid fossil fuel to nuclear power plants, than on the path from power plants with solid fossil fuel to wind turbines. The concept of technological post transition of a power system is more closely determined and defined in the fifth chapter. The concept of competitiveness of the power system in the post-transition is presented (see Fig. 1). In particular, the energy-time frame concept is discussed in detail, with appropriate indicators, as a tool for determining the competitiveness of the power system in the technological post-transition. The application of the energy-time frame concept to the analysis of the competitiveness of the power system in the technological post-transition is demonstrated. Five different energy technology options for dominant energy technology in the power system’s post transition are analyzed. The options are wind turbines, nuclear power plants, combined cycle gas turbines, coal fired power plants with CCS technology, as well as lignite fired power plants with CCS technology. The general conclusion of these analyses is that the power system with nuclear power plants as a dominant technology is the most competitive. Final observations on the considered topics together with presented results are given in the sixth chapter. Figure 1. Graphical presentation of the post transition concept

Could the political-diplomatic history of the Kingdom of Naples benefit from the methodological and epistemological innovations of the New Diplomatic History (NDH)? If so, in which way? Considering which geographies, sources, and protagonists? This essay will attempt to answer these questions by examining the relationships between the kingdom of Naples and of England from the 1460s to the 1480s and the role of Flanders as a commercial and diplomatic centre in these relationships during the second half of the 15th century. It will focus on the activities of some Neapolitan and Florentine merchants between Bruges, and London and their professional, family and friendship networks at the service of Naples.
