Alexandr Dugin

In the wake of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution and Russia’s subsequent war on Ukraine, Russian political thinker Aleksandr Dugin has become an object of many western analyses of Russia’s foreign policy. Various media have called Dugin “the mad mystic who inspired Russia’s leader” or “Putin’s brain”. Indeed, the man behind Russia’s Neo-Eurasianism has received significant attention and his ideas have evidently entered mainstream political thought.

Peeling the Onion. A Look Backwards on National Bolshevism in the 1900s.
This article aims at analyzing the problematic trajectory of National Bolshevism, an “oxymoronic” provocative political concept, born and developed throughout the Twentieth Century. Such concept appears
in several different contexts, employed more or less legitimately. This article will attempt to outline a kind of conceptual mapping, located in clear historical as well as geographic coordinates (Germany, France, Soviet Union, Russia and some short mentions to Italy) through an
accurate historiographical overview and an extensive examination of the press of that period. This mapping will identify some of the circumstances, in which the National Bolshevik thought emerges as a part of the broader history of exchanges and intertwining between the ideas of Socialism and Nation.

This dissertation attempts to critically analyse the influence of Carl Schmitt on the thought of Aleksandr Dugin’s Neo-Eurasianism. It highlights Dugin’s use of Schmitt’s thought in three key ways: an analytical framework of the ‘political’, a mythopoetic understanding of space, and the role of katechon in establishing a multipolar world order. Thereafter, it suggests that Dugin’s interpretation of Schmitt has been heavily influenced by a particular reading created by the European New Right. It concludes by critically analysing this interpretation, suggesting that it indirectly undermines Dugin’s Neo-Eurasianism whilst strengthening critical readings of Schmitt’s position in contemporary political discourse.

I det här arbetet undersökte jag tre olika författares syn på det postmoderna: Alexandr Dugins, Jean- François Lyotards och Zygmunt Baumans. Vidare undersökte och diskuterade jag deras syn på postmodernitetens inverkan på kunskap och bildningsfrågor och de utmaningar den för med sig.
Undersökning har visat att världen har trätt in i en ny tidsålder – postmoderniteten som påverkade både kunskapssynen, vetenskapen och utbildningen i hela världen. Detta ledde till en kris inom nämnda området, eftersom modernitetens modeller och metoden har visat sig föråldrade. Krisen berörde frågan om legitimering av kunskapen och därmed vetenskapen. Situationen kräver därför nya, annorlunda modeller och tillvägagångssätt inom dessa områden som vore relevanta för vår tids utmaningar och detta arbetar man på i alla länder.

Order and Chaos are fundamental and archetypal concepts that allow us to understand and order reality. Thanks to the hermeneutic key which they offer, the paper addresses the relation between the tension towards order and stability and the indistinct and pre-formal original ontological dimension (distinct from disorder) within the study of the philosophy of places. Some more specific declinations of this question will be explored along the trajectory that, starting from sacred geography and Genius loci figure, leads to contemporary disciplines such as geophilosophy and geopolitics.

PRINCIPIOS BÁSICOS DEL CRISOLISMO COMO CUARTA TEORÍA POLÍTICA PERUANA
1.PRINCIPIOS POLÍTICOS
1.1.Nacionalismo integral: El nuevo nacionalismo contemporáneo, ya no es de ninguna forma aquel que se confunde con la xenofobia, el chauvinismo y el jingoismo, sino por el contrario, un nacionalismo sano, integrador, que reconoce que el amor a la patria y la valoración sana de la identidad nacional es compartida por todas las naciones del mundo y por ello la base de un auténtico internacionalismo. Este nacionalismo peruano se sustenta en un concepto de nación monolítica, en donde todas las etnias y pueblos del Perú se unen bajo un objetivo común, la construcción y el engrandecimiento de la Peruanidad.

1.2.Democracia meritocrática: La nueva democracia contemporánea ya no sera liberal (la que solo permite la participación a través de un sistema de partidos, generando con ello que los intereses de éstos se enquisten y se cartelicen de espaldas a la sociedad, aunado a la ausencia de filtros mínimos para el ejercicio político sin los cuales no se puede garantizar la presencia de personas integras en la política) sino iliberal, una forma de gobierno sustentada en el ejercicio de la soberanía popular a través de varios órganos de participación –no solo Partidos Políticos (sino también Colegios de Profesionales, Universidades, Sindicatos, etc.)– que se eligen por votación, con requisitos meritocráticos mínimos para el ejercicio de cargos públicos. Esto, para el contexto peruano, sera la base, la etapa de transición que nos conducirá a la laocracia (el poder del pueblo por oposición a la democracia liberal, el gobierno de los lobbies), el Estado como instrumento del pueblo.


2.PRINCIPIOS SOCIO-CULTURALES
2.1. La identidad nacional como reconocimiento: Para Hegel, la identidad es, ante todo, un acto de re-conocimiento o Annerkennung, así abordada, la identidad nacional se nos presenta como un re-conocerse en el otro, reconocer a alguien como miembro de una misma comunidad de fines a la que uno pertenece.

2.2. Unidad en la Peruanidad: Para que el acto de re-conocerse en el otro se manifieste y sea pleno, es fundamental un acto adicional volitivo, una manifestación de voluntad. No solo basta ser peruano (plano étnico), hay que querer serlo, en palabras de Vollmar Fuenzalida, y ese querer ser, va por aceptar la naturaleza principal de la sociedad peruana, como sociedad mestiza, biológica y culturalmente. El mestizaje no solo es racial o biológico, sino también cultural. Desde que un quechua, aymara, etc, habla español y se viste de manera occidental, ya es un mestizo cultural. Desde que un criollo tiene palabras de origen quechua (Cancha, Poncho, Cura, Gaucho, Morocho, Chacra, Chullo, Carpa, Pucho, etc) en su lenguaje cotidiano, ya es un mestizo cultural. Se puede ser racialmente "homogéneo", pero mestizo culturalmente, esa es la realidad del Perú en toda su complejidad. En comunidades amazónicas que mantuvieron su información genética intacta a través del tiempo y quieren seguir manteniéndola así, no hay mestizaje racial o biológico, pero el avance de las ciudades ha generado que entren en contacto con formas de desenvolvimiento occidental, vestimenta, lenguaje y economía turística, lo que ha generado a su vez, el mestizaje cultural, en donde se integran dicciones culturales occidentales a su estilo de vida autóctono. Lo contrario a lo mencionado, es la negación del Perú como síntesis-viviente, que crea el fenómeno de la vietnamización de las identidades en donde las identidades étnicas (regionales, etc), de clase o las subidentidades locales (p.ej. tribus urbanas, equipos de fútbol, pandillas y barras bravas, etc.), no pueden reconocer una identidad mayor (nacional). El reconocimiento del sincretismo, es lo que unifica a un ciudadano de clase media limeña, un campesino de Huancavelica, uno de Puno o un machiguenga de la selva peruana. Esta visión no atenta contra la particular identidad étnica o racial de los peruanos, en tanto el mestizaje no existe de forma individual, anulando una identidad originaria, sino siempre como referencia a una condición étnica y racial preexistente (No se es de raza mestiza, el mestizaje es una condición de la raza: p.ej. afrodescendiente-mestizo, eurodescendiente-mestizo, etc). Es por ello que la Peruanidad es la etapa superior de la conciencia nacional y base de una auténtica unidad nacional como cumulo de aspiraciones de todos los pueblos que conforman la comunidad peruana, conformando el peruanismo, superación del hispanismo y el indigenismo, dos corrientes que se disputaron la identidad de la nación peruana. Disminuir la hispanidad o el Incario es disminuir la peruanidad.

3.PRINCIPIOS ECONÓMICOS
3.1. Economía nacionalista: Los sistemas económicos son otra expresión particular del Volkgeist o espíritu nacional, en nuestro caso de nuestro Runa llaqta o pueblo, en tanto que no puede haber un orden social universal (allgemeingültige Ordnung) para todas las naciones, ya que cada cual tiene sus propias particularidades.

3.2. Racionalidad económica integral: Si la economía clásica significó la primacía de una racionalidad instrumentalista que está determinada por el principio de máxima ganancia –que ahora se traduce en términos de escasez y de utilidad marginal en la escuela neoclásica–, y por otro lado la racionalidad de la primera crítica marxiana que intentó sentar las bases de una racionalidad reproductiva de la vida humana; la nueva racionalidad económica no deberá ser ni instrumentalista ni reduccionista, sino todo lo contrario, integral, que no vea a la naturaleza ni a la fuerza de trabajo como meras mercancías, sino como sujetos, proyecciones de una realidad fenoménica con una dignidad trascendental.

3.3. La propiedad como atributo elemental humano: ¿Cómo superar la crítica marxiana contra la propiedad capitalista y la actividad empresarial, como puras manifestaciones del hurto propinado a los trabajadores, sin incurrir en los ilógicos de la Escuela Austríaca?  Al respecto, nos parece que Primo de Rivera tuvo mayor tino en abordar esta problemática en el sentido de que se puede tomar por análogos conceptos marxianos y joseantonianos, en tanto que lo que para Marx es propiedad privada burguesa, para Primo de Rivera es propiedad capitalista.  La síntesis de estos planteamiento va en reconocer que existen 3 formas básicas de propiedad como siguen:

3.3.1. La Propiedad capitalista es el gran capital acumulado (S.A.A), el cual puede tener dos usos: a) en beneficio del interés nacional, que genera empleo, respeta los derechos laborales y devuelve los beneficios de su uso a la sociedad a través de múltiples formas; o b) en contra del interés nacional, en único beneficio de un interés particular y como instrumento técnico de dominación económica, que no respeta los derechos de los trabajadores y atenta contra la sociedad o contra la naturaleza. En el supuesto b) se aboga, en caso de faltas leves y medianas, sanciones ejemplares en UIT's con medidas correctivas para instar a que el gran capital retorne a su función social (supuesto a), y por su completa abolición bajo la forma de expropiación con indemnización para faltas graves y sin indemnización para faltas muy graves. En ambos casos corresponde al Estado regular responsablemente el ejercicio de la actividad económica como en cualquier nación desarrollada. (Bajo este concepto, casos como los de Telefónica, Graña y Montero, Gloria, Odebrecht filial peruana y Mineras, estarían bajo la mira).

3.3.2. La Propiedad privada es la propiedad personal, es la extensión del hombre sobre sus cosas, obtenida a través del trabajo. Aquí se encuentra la propiedad de los empresarios (S.A.C), pequeños empresarios (MYPE's) y pequeños agricultores. El empresario es aquel que con su talento emprende un negocio por lo que no deja de ser un trabajador más.

3.3.3. La Propiedad colectiva es la propiedad que le pertenece a todo el conjunto social, y que en una de sus formas, su conservación y mantenimiento depende del sistema de impuestos. Aquí tenemos a la variedad de servicios públicos de los cuales nos beneficiamos: Transporte público, Educación pública, Bibliotecas públicas, Piscinas públicas, Salud y Seguridad social, Justicia, Defensa, etc.

Por lo expuesto, se aboga por la abolición de la propiedad capitalista cuando deviene en contraria al interés nacional o atenta de forma grave contra los derechos de los trabajadores, dejando a salvo y protegiendo la propiedad privada, en tanto que la diferencia de la primera, y se reconoce a la propiedad colectiva a través de los Servicios Públicos (Salud, Educación, Defensa y Justicia), en tanto se tiene muy en claro que la razón fundamental de todo trabajo es la adquisición de propiedad. Propiedad privada y propiedad colectiva, pueden coexistir pacíficamente, pero la propiedad capitalista, dependiendo del caso, siempre será la generadora de discordia social.

Rusya’da kriz dönemlerinde ortaya çıkan bir fikir akımı olan Avrasyacılık, SSCB’nin yıkılma emareleri vermeye başladığı 1980’lerin sonunda yeniden Rus siyasal düşünce hayatında etkinlik kazanmıştır. Yeni Avrasyacılık olarak adlandırılmaya başlanan bu anlayış, gerek yaptığı yayınlarla sesini Rusya dışında da duyuran, gerekse Rus politik elitlerine yakınlığı nedeniyle yönlendiriciliği de bulunan Aleksandr Dugin ile anılmaya başlanmıştır. Esasen Dugin’in Avrasyacılık düşüncesi, Mackinder’den ödünç aldığı “kara” ile “deniz” güçleri arasındaki rekabete dayanmaktadır. Günümüzde bu rekabetin Rusya ve ABD’de vücut bulunduğunu iddia eden Dugin, bu mücadelede üstünlük sağlamak için merkezinde Rus İmparatorluğu’nun yer aldığı bir Avrasya İmparatorluğu’nun teşkilinin gerekliliğinden söz etmektedir. Bu noktada, 1990’ların sonunda kaleme aldığı “Rus Jeopolitiği” adlı kitabında, Türkiye’yi bu projeye yönelik önemli bir tehdit olarak gördüğünü söylese de, takip eden süreçte Türkiye’yi bir ortak olarak Avrasyacılığa dâhil etmekten dahi söz etmeye başlamıştır. Ancak iki ülke arasındaki, kendisinin de defaten ifade ettiği, tarihsel jeopolitik rekabet, bu ortaklığın önünde bir engel olarak durmaktadır.

If in 2004 Canovan could write that, “few political theorists believe that populism deserves their attention,” by 2017, as White and Ypi observe, “contemporary political theory has made the question of the ‘people’ a topic of sustained analysis.”  Even so, “what a people is…is a matter of enduring dispute.”  One of the disputed definitions of what a people is comes from the domain of right-wing populism.  While the political relevance of right-wing populist challenges to liberal democracy is widely recognized, the theoretical bases of right-wing populism are rarely the targets of sustained analysis. Yet, what Spektorowski writes about the New Right perhaps applies also to right-wing populisms more generally: their importance “lies […] in [their] theoretical innovation.”  This paper is meant to be a contribution to the general study of the theoretical innovations of right-wing populism. Specifically, it focuses on Alexander Dugin’s populism. First, I briefly introduce the place of the “people” in Dugin’s fourth political theory. Second and third, comprising the bulk of the essay, I provide an overview of the ethnosociological and existential dimensions of Dugin’s populism. Fourth, I briefly outline an additional, “noological” aspect before concluding.

İnceleme için seçtiğimiz “Rus Jeopolitiği-Avrasyacı yaklaşım” kıtabı Rus tarihini daha çok jeopolitik düzleme taşıyarak analiz etmeyi amaclayan bir kitaptır. Jeopolitik kavramları dikkate alarak konum olarak Avrasya “Heartland”ı olarak bilinen Rusya- Soğuk savaş sonrası hangi değişimlere uğramış, hangi düzeyde değişmiştir sorusunu temel olarak bu kitapda anlamamız mümkündür.
        Rusya jeopolitiğini anlamak için belki temel eserlerden biri olarak karşımıza çıkar ve işin aslı  yönü ise kitabın bir ünlü Rus stratejisti tarafından yapılmış olmasıdır. Yaptığı jeopolitik analizinde Dugin, tüm duyğusal düşünceleri kenara bırakarak, tam bir reel durumu gözeterek analiz yapmıştır. Bunu yaptığı bazı Rusya yönümlü eleştirilerden anlamamız o kadar zor olmadı.

L'articolo discute le opere fondamentali del filosofo russo Aleksandr Dugin, in particolare per ciò che riguarda da una parte l’etnosociologia, vale a dire la ricostruzione genealogica della società dall’unità sociale di base (ethnos) fino alle società più complesse (narod, nazione, società globale) e alle loro dinamiche, dall’altra la filosofia politica, al fine di comprendere sia la sua posizione critica verso le istituzioni e i disequilibri del presente, sia gli scopi ideologici della sua proposta di una nuova teoria politica, in riferimento al rapporto con l’élite russa e alla sua vocazione imperialista.

This paper overviews European Identitarian and/or New Rightist philosophy regarding the issues of ethnicity, culture, race, and identities and politics related to these. Topics discussed in the paper include the following: the conception and sociology of collective identities, ethno-cultural identity, inter-cultural interaction, the role of racial type in identity, the problems of mixing and miscegenation, the idea of differentialism as opposed to racism, the value of community in identity, types of ethnic separatism (the class and caste System, nationalism, Traditionalist imperial federalism, Identitarian separatism or federalism), the idea of organic democracy, and the Theory of a Multipolar World. References are made especially to the writings of Alain de Benoist, Alexander Dugin, Pierre Krebs, Tomislav Sunic, Guillaume Faye, and Julius Evola.

Resumen: El nuevo horizonte no es de ninguna forma como Fukuyama lo previó, sino que se acerca cada día más al enfoque del filósofo ruso Alexander Dugin, de un mundo multipolar, de una geopolítica de los grandes espacios, de una reversibilidad del tiempo, del advenimiento de una auténtica laocracia y del retorno a una visión comunitaria de la existencia humana como revalorización del ethos particular de los pueblos. Es decir, todo esto significa que el nuevo horizonte, es un horizonte iliberal que augurará el surgimiento de nuevos paradigmas políticos y socio-económicos. Es por estas razones que el factor socio-cultural está muy presente en la formación del poder actual de las potencias y de sus particulares sistemas y estructuras políticas y socio-económicas, en tanto han sabido reconocerse como civilizaciones, y la razón por la que se habla cada vez más de democracias iliberales en detrimento de la democracia liberal, así como la razón de que se hable de capitalismo con valores asiáticos, de economía social de mercado o de socialismo con características chinas, formas mixtas de economía que se alejan cada vez más del capitalismo liberal habitual. Es decir, sistemas políticos y económicos que se muestran como alternativas ante el fracaso de la tricotomía globalizante (individualismo ético, democracia liberal y capitalismo liberal) y que está, por su misma naturaleza totalitaria siempre es ajena  e indiferente –como afirma Benoist– a las herencias culturales, las identidades colectivas, los patrimonios y los intereses nacionales.

Abstract: The new horizon is not in any way as Fukuyama predicted, but it is getting closer to the approach of the Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin, that is a vision of a multipolar world, a geopolitics of the great spaces, a reversibility of time, the advent of a genuine laocracy and the return to a communitarian vision of human existence as a revaluation of the particular ethos of peoples. All this means that the new horizon is an illiberal one that will predict the emergence of new political and socio-economic paradigms. It is for these reasons that the socio-cultural factor is very present in the formation of the current power of the nations and their particular political and socio-economic systems and structures, as long as they recognized themselves as civilizations, and the reason why we hear more of illiberal democracies in detriment of liberal democracy, as well as the reason for why we are witnessing the emergence of capitalism with Asian values, social market economy and socialism with Chinese characteristics, mixed forms of economy that are increasingly moving away of the habitual liberal capitalism. That is, political and economic systems that shown themselves as alternatives to the failure of the globalizing tricotomy (ethical individualism, liberal democracy and liberal capitalism) and its totalitarian nature, that is always alien and indifferent –as Benoist affirms– to cultural heritages, collective identities and National interests.

This paper argues for the central role of Martin Heidegger's thought in Alexander Dugin's political philosophy or political theory. Part one is a broad overview of the place of Heidegger in Dugin's political theory. Part two outlines how Dugin uses Heidegger to elaborate a specifically Russian political theory. Part three shows how apparently unphilosophical political concepts from Dugin's political theory have a Heideggerian meaning for him. Because of what he regards as a homology between the philosophical and the political, his readers must always be aware of the philosophical significance of his political concepts and vice versa. Tracing Heidegger's central role helps clarify Dugin's political thought.

Die „Neoeurasier“ sind lediglich ein Teil einer weit größeren und hochaktiven „unzivilen Gesellschaft“ im heutigen Russland. Dugin agiert im Kontext der enormen Text-, Audio- und Videoproduktion verschiedener antiliberaler Publizistengruppen stärker auf der philosophischen Meta- als politischen Praxisebene. Er spielt eher eine Vorreiter- als Führungsrolle. Die 1968 entstandene Neue Europäische Rechte ist mit ihrem Projekt der Erlangung einer „kulturellen Hegemonie“ in Westeuropa bislang weitgehend gescheitert. Dagegen ist es Dugin und hunderten ähnlichen postsowjetischen Agitatoren seit 1991 gelungen, das politische und intellektuelle Zentrum Russlands nachhaltig nach rechts zu verschieben.

In this article, Dugin contrasts three theories: the globalist optimist vision of Fukuyama, the globalist pessimist vision of Huntington, and the multipolarist, anti-globalist view of the Eurasianists. He asserts that, in contrast to Huntington's "clash of civilizations", Eurasianism offers the possibility of harmonious relations between different civilizations by overthrowing the U.S.-centered Western hegemony.

Applying Roger Griffin’s methodological approach to generic fascism, the article analyses individual – socio-political, cultural and esoteric – themes within Dugin’s doctrine, treating them as elements of a larger integral concept of rebirth that constitutes the core of Neo-Eurasianism. The article highlights the highly syncretic nature of this ideological core, a direct result of the ‘mazeway resynthesis’ that has conditioned Dugin’s worldview. It argues that this process has been necessitated by his self-appointed task of envisioning a new stage of history beyond Russia’s present decadent and ‘liminoid’ situation, one that he sees only coming about as the result of a ‘geopolitical revolution’. The variant of Eurasionism that results has the function of a political religion containing a powerful palingenetic thrust towards a new Russia and new West. In conclusion, it is suggested that the new order aspired to by Dugin could only be realised by establishing a totalitarian regime.

The chapter examines Russian political theorist Aleksandr Dugin's (b. 1962) attack on the perceived Western liberal order. The chapter introduces Dugin's role on the Russian right-wing political scene and his international networks, Russian neo-Eurasianism as his ideological footing, and his more recent "fourth political theory" as an attempt to formulate a new ideological alternative to the key twentieth-century ideologies, for him, liberalism, communism, and fascism. Dugin's "fourth" ideology draws inspiration from the German conservative revolutionary movement of the Weimar era. In particular, Martin Heidegger's philosophy of history, with its thesis of the end of modernity and another beginning of Western thought, and Carl Schmitt's pluralistic model of geopolitics are highlighted as key elements of Dugin's eclectic political thought, which is most appropriately characterized as a form of radical conservatism.

Crisolism as such, is a scientific socio-political ideology –or pretends to be one– under construction, which inspired in a certain way by the Fourth Political Theory of Alexander Dugin, proposes an independent political model as a contemporary alternative to the hegemonic models of development. This due to the failure of Conservatism, Communism and Fascism in the Peruvian political arena, to shown themselves as alternatives to Liberalism. Moreover, due to the constant conflict between Indigenism and Hispanism in the identity field, provides the necessary foundations for a new political theory in front of the prevailing and general de-ideologization of the parties and society, product of the current post-liberal vision.

Russian political thinker and, by his own words, geopolitician, Aleksandr Dugin, represents a comparatively new trend in the radical Russian nationalist thought. In the course of the 1990s, he introduced his own doctrine that was called Neo-Eurasianism. Despite the supposed reference to the interwar political movement of Eurasianists, Dugin's Neo-Eurasian nationalism was rooted in the political and cultural philosophy of the European New Right. Neo-Eurasianism is based on a quasi-geopolitical theory that juxtaposes the 'Atlanticist New World Order' (principally the US and the UK) against the Russia-oriented 'New Eurasian Order'. According to Dugin, the 'Atlanticist Order' is a homogenizing force that dilutes national and cultural diversity that is a core value for Eurasia. Taken for granted, Eurasia is perceived to suffer from a 'severe ethnic, biological and spiritual' crisis and is to undergo an 'organic cultural-ethnic process' under the leadership of Russia that will secure the preservation of Eurasian nations and their cultural traditions. Neo-Eurasianism, sacralized by Dugin and his followers in the form of a political religion, provides a clear break from narrow nationalism toward the New Right ethopluralist model. Many Neo-Eurasian themes find a broad response among Russian high-ranking politicians, philosophers, scores of university students, as well as numerous avant-garde artists and musicians. Already by the end of the 1990s, Neo-Eurasianism took on a respectable, academic guise and was drawn in to 'scientifically' support some anti-American and anti-British rhetoric of the Russian government.
