Aranese

España, mal les pese a algunos, es un país multilingüe donde se hablan nueve lenguas (sin contar, obviamente, todas las lenguas de los inmigrantes). En este trabajo presentaremos brevemente estas nueve lenguas y comentaremos su situación sociolingüística.

“Like all educational practice, bilingual education is inextricably bound up with the socio-political context in which it arises and the purposes it serves” (Lo Bianco 2007: 47).

Ruiz (1984) proposes three basic perspectives towards language and its role in society as well as how it influences language planning in different situations: language as a problem, language as a right and language as a resource (Ruiz 1984: 15).

• Language as a problem: For some people, bilingualism and especially bilingual education may have negative effects within the community causing disunity, ethnic problems and political turmoil.

• Language as a right: Some other people feel that prejudices and discrimination need to be erased. These prejudices would include the linguistic ones. According to this orientation all people must have the right to learn and use their native language.

• Language as a resource: For a third group, bilingualism and bilingual education can be an asset for promoting national unity, since different linguistic groups within the country will be able to communicate with each other. Furthermore, bilingual education can empower people and communities to develop international relations.


As Baker (2011: 374) points out bilingual education can be perceived as “both part of the solution and part of the problem of achieving national unity, diversity or unity in diversity.”

Following the premises above, this presentation will prove that there is a political ideology behind different models of bilingual education using real cases in three different countries:

• Hungarian bilingual education in Slovakia: language as a problem
• Occitan bilingual education in the Aran Valley: language as a right
• Russian bilingual education in Kazakhstan: language as a resource

During Mussolini’s fascist regime, the Atlante internazionale del Touring Club Italiano published in Milan (1927-1938) and too in Barcelona (1930-1935), and widely recognised far beyond the borders of Italy, included among its plates two maps of European ethnic groups. The makers of the TCI’s atlas passed on to us a specific approach to determine the kind of collective that ought to be considered an ethnic group. The enigmatic second reprint of the fifth edition (1938) was inexplicably not accompanied by the symbolic features required by the Italian fascist authorities, but, after World War II started, the new version of the “Europa etnografica” map – on a 1:12.000.000 scale –  clearly showed the changes that occurred in the political context.

El Valle de Arán es una pequeña comarca situada en la vertiente norte de los Pirineos que tiene como lengua propia el occitano, más conocido entre los habitantes del valle con el nombre de aranés. El aranés es el resultado de la particular evolución de la lengua latina en aquel territorio después de su proceso de romanización. En términos dialectológicos, el occitano del Valle de Arán pertenece a la rama pirenaica de los dialectos gascones. El Valle de Arán ha iniciado un proceso de normalización lingüística único en toda Occitania, y los araneses necesitan un estándar lingüístico para poder tirar adelante con su labor. A medida que la situación sociolingüística del occitano en Francia empeora, los araneses han de plantearse como afrontar su aislamiento y encontrar estrategias que permitan mantener cierta autonomía lingüística sin poner en peligro la unidad de la lengua occitana.

This paper analyses two contemporary examples of literatures written in minority languages which are not official in the whole area of Iberian Peninsula, and namely the literatures in Aranese and Astur-Leonese. In this analysis, the conceptualization of polysystem theory has been applied, to the conclusion that both literatures suffer a low extent of autonomy facing the more powerful systems co-existing in the areas under consideration, although in each case this state of affairs is caused by different factors. The literatures under consideration will be presented in the light of the language policies applied in Val d’Aran, the Principality of Asturias and the province of León, with a detailed outline of their political and cultural context, as well as a critical panorama of the sociolinguistic situation prevailing in those regions, which is influenced by economical and political
factors. In relation to the institutions and the publishing market, the units promoting the Aranese and Astur-Leonese languages and literatures on the one hand and the production of books written in these languages on the other are analysed as indicators of the weakness suffered by both these
literary systems. Identity aspects that are related to the collective image of these territories due to their geographical location are also discussed in comparison with the type of literature that is being written in Aranese and Astur-Leonese. Ultimately, both Aranese and Astur-Leonese literary system have today a low degree of real autonomy against other, stronger ones present in their respective autochthonous areas, i.e. Spanish and, partially, Galician systems in the case of Astur-Leonese literature, and Catalan and Spanish systems in the case of Aranese literature.

Aquest treball té un doble objectiu. El primer de tots és “demostrar la unitat lingüística occitana” a través de l’estudi de dues varietats perifèriques, ja que hi ha diferents sectors, des de procediments més o menys lingüístics, que la qüestionen. He deixat de banda tot el que feia referència a la unitat lingüística de l’occità i del català per no desviar-me del tema central de la recerca i he defensat –quan he hagut de parlar de l’occità i del català al llarg del treball- la idea més acceptada pels científics i pels organismes oficials, és a dir, la independència de cada llengua./nL’altre clar objectiu del treball és acostar la realitat occitana a Catalunya, atès/nque, tot i el desconeixement força generalitzat, aquesta llengua és cooficial a tot el territori català, no només a la Val d’Aran, juntament amb les altres dues llengües de coneixement obligatori. En aquest acostament m’he allunyat de presentar l’estàndard o els provençals, Mistral o els trobadors i he triat mostrar l’occità des de dos punts molt allunyats: l’aranès, proper a nosaltres, i el gardiol, exòtic, parlat encara a una illa lingüística al sud d’Itàlia.

En este trabajo pretendemos ofrecer una perspectiva sobre las lenguas de comunicación de los partidos políticos, grupos, asociaciones y movimientos
sociales en España. ¿Cuáles son las lenguas que utiliza cada partido en sus actos y comunicaciones públicas? Tratamos de obtener una comparativa en
función de la lengua o lenguas utilizadas por los diferentes partidos y movimientos políticos en los territorios bilingües del Estado Español. Para ello
partimos de la propaganda electoral, comunicados y manifiestos públicos de los partidos políticos en las redes sociales y realizamos un estudio
comparativo en función de la lengua utilizada en diferentes contextos en los distintos territorios. Finalmente, presentaremos algunas conclusiones sobre
algunas situaciones bilingües y diglósicas en Galicia, Asturias, País Vasco, Navarra, Aragón, Cataluña, Valle de Arán, Comunidad Valenciana, Islas Baleares
y Extremadura.

Le mardi 20 mai 2014, a eu lieu le lancement de la méthode d’occitan des éditions ASSIMIL, conçu par Nicolas Quint, chercheur au CNRS. L'événément a eu lieu en présence de M. David Grosclaude, conseiller régional d’ Aquitaine et de et de M. Xavier North, Délégué Général à la Langue Française et aux Langues de France (Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication)

L'ésser humà és un animal social i, per això, ha de recórrer al llenguatge per sobreviure. Per tant, és correcte dir que el llenguatge és excloent? L'ésser humà parla per comunicar, no per excloure's. Així, doncs, les llengües no són pas excloents, sinó que són l'eina que fem servir per comunicar-nos amb els altres, per conversar-hi i ajuntar-nos per crear la societat que necessitem per poder viure. És cert que en cada llengua s'hi troben els records històrics de la seva comunitat lingüística, de la seva nació. S'hi reflecteixen els contactes amb d'altres pobles, els fets importants i l'evolució del pensament. Però, tot i així, malgrat aquest component nacional, les llengües segueixen essent una eina per comunicar, i comunicar no significa separar ni marginar.
En aquest llibre ens endinsarem en la diversitat lingüística ibèrica tot fent una crida a la reivindicació dels drets lingüístics dels parlants de qualsevol de les vuit llengües que hi coexisteixen. Un recorregut que pretén sensibilitzar el lector i mostrar-li que en la comprensió i el respecte vers la diferència rau la clau de la unió.
