This study explores the identity formation and mobility of the role of Antoinette in the novel "Wide Sargasso Sea" from the perspective of the cultural and human geography. In general, it is a space and place study. The thesis suggests that, Antoinette has some conditions and circumstances that she developed in an autonomic manner with different experiences in order to navigate and recognize the dangerous and safe spaces around her. Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys, elaborates a self-sacrifice experience that the protagonist went through in her search for identity, which she lost due to the circumstances around her. In this research, a psychological analysis of Antoinette's personality will be taken, moreover; an attempt is made to find out the reasons for her schizophrenic behavior. The research focuses on Antoinette's shattered identity and the specters she faced in her life, which ultimately played a huge role in her madness. Also, the visible opposite aspects of black/white, rationality/unconsciousness, male/female, and sanity/madness are conceived by her conscious mind, and it causes the frantic thoughts of insanity, womanhood, and blackness. Also, it sheds light on Antoinette's journey in life to figure out where she belongs and her struggle in this search. Antoinette's personality and identity crisis as a Creole girl will be discussed in depth. There are different areas that are explored in this paper; such as the interpretation of how the surrounding spaces affect Antoinette and the reasons behind the absence of a loving mother in Wide Sargasso Sea. Furthermore, Rochester's character is also examined to find out how the masculine space differs from feminine space, and to what extent Mr. Rochester's cruelty harms Antoinette. Another important thing that is discussed in the paper is the effect of family relationships on a person's identity, and how it becomes a reason of mental disorder.

Makalah ini berisi analisis diksi kata Black dan White dalam novel Black and White karangan Lewis
Shiner. Kata Black dan White dipilih berdasarkan fenomena perang rasial yang masih terjadi di kawasan Amerika
sejak 1960 hingga saat ini. Pada 1960, kata Black berarti hitam atau yang sering dikonotasikan dengan ras kulit
hitam, sedangkan kata White berarti putih atau yang sering dikonotasikan dengan ras kulit putih. Sejak saat itu,
banyak novel yang mengkisahkan perang rasial antara kulit hitam dengan kulit putih, misalnya novel Black and
White karangan Lewis Shiner. Dalam novel tersebut, ditemukan perkembangan gaya penulisan kata yang
berkonotasi dengan Black (kulit hitam) dan White (kulit putih). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis diksi atau
pilihan kata Black dan White dalam novel Black and White karangan Lewis Shiner. Analisis ini dilakukan dengan
mengambil sample kalimat yang menggunakan pilihan kata Black dan White, kemudian dijelaskan secara deskriptif
kualitatif. Dengan menggunakan software Antconc dan Antword Profiler, analisis tersebut dilakukan dari sudut
pandang linguistik korpus. Akhirnya dapat disimpulkan bahwa kata Black dan White menduduki peringkat pertama
dalam pilihan kata yang digunakan dalam novel tersebut dengan diikuti kata benda dan kata sifat sehingga
pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif bisa disimpulkan merupakan pendekatan yang baik dalam menganalisis diksi atau
pilihan kata Black dan White dalam novel Black and White karangan Lewis Shiner tersebut.

It is most often the case when I refer to my work as experimental animation that I am met with the question, what is experimental animation? I am instantly reminded of a story about Louis Armstrong in conversation with Johnny Carson who asked Armstrong, “What is jazz?” Louis Armstrong enthusiastically responded, “Well if you don’t know what it is, I sure as hell can’t tell you!”

In some ways, Louis Armstrong’s response might be said to be universal for questions having to do with art, in that any attempt to offer definition tends to further confuse, bind, constrict and/or be irrelevant, rather than to clarify meaning. As a scholar and as an artist, I am most interested in the unanswerable. As I understand it, to ask the unanswerable is the beginning of an event … if you will, an event of language, timing and gesture, experimentation and conceptualizing. The more important consideration in a “what is ____?” question is not the answer, but the asking.. How is it we know so little about the art form?

The aim of this paper is to clarify the role that Cuban intellectuals gave the
black population in the process of construction of the Cuban identity. The

Black girls' musical play and hip-hop exist in a reciprocal relationship. Hip-hop has influenced the performance style of battlin' cheers: improvisation, competition, confrontation, and a general ‘bad’ attitude, while conversely, the musical play of Black girls has influenced the lyrics, rhythms, and melodies of hip-hop songs. Thus, females have significantly shaped this genre of music generally seen as male dominated and defined.

This study used a nationally representative sample of African American college students to examine the degree to which their affiliation with a Greek-letter organization contributed to engagement in effective educational practices by analyzing National Survey of Student Engagement data at historically Black colleges and universities and predominantly White institutions. Overall, the findings indicated that Greek affiliation does enhance African American student engagement, particularly as it relates to interactions with faculty members and peers. Data also indicated that Greek affiliated members at historically Black colleges and universities appear to be more engaged than their counterparts at predominantly White institutions. Do the words we use really matter? How often —while reading a written text (news, or analysis, or even fiction), or while listening to somebody speak (in conversation, on tv, on the radio), or maybe even talking yourself, telling stories, sharing thoughts, or trying to teach something new— how often have you seen or heard the words “black” or “dark” used as metaphors to characterize negative attributes?

Shyam Selvadurai's novel Funny Boy and Buchi Emecheta's novel Second Class Citizen are considered as the groundbreaking works of postcolonial literature where the protagonist's quest for identity in their prevalent society is clearly depicted. The word 'funny' itself in the title of the novel Funny Boy shows that living a queer life is considered as funny in the context of Indian society and how language dominating public and textual discourses is rendered funny and the word 'second-class' denotes the class in which the women, specially the black women are put in the society. Thus this paper aims to explore the identity crisis faced by the two protagonists, Ajrie, from the novel, Funny Boy and Adah, from the novel, Second Class Citizen. By exploring the interconnections between queer adolescence, gendered identity and postcolonialism, this paper attempts to study the neat narratives of postcolonial modernity to suggest the reorientation of South Asian and African fiction as a crucial outcome of the crossings.

This essay analyzes Anthony Lucas’ short film The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello (2005), an adventure film set at a Steampunk universe, which proposes a revision of literary classics of science fiction as H.G. Wells and Jules Verne. The paper will stress the idea of animation as a means to revisit subsequent texts, establishing re-animating relations between them. Also, the article will highlight the idea of the animator as inventor, describing the procedures that have led Anthony Lucas to a bold combination to join the ‘retro’ with modernity.

This is a short analysis paper I wrote using Leslie Grinners framework of Sexuality, Christianity, Whiteness, Able-Bodies, Male, and Property Holders (SCWAMP) to analyze the 2006 film Step Up. Through my analysis I reveal hidden messages that are shown in the film, including black culture vs White culture, the problem with interracial couples, the repercussions of homosexuality, and the difference between light black people and dark black people.

Este ensayo se interesa en los colores que los antiguos nahuas asociaban a las estaciones a partir de una exploración del cromatismo de los dioses vinculados a tales temporadas, así como de las plantas, los astros y los animales relacionados con ellas. Mediante un cotejo de la iconografía de los códices del Grupo Borgia con informaciones procedentes de crónicas y códices coloniales así como de trabajos etnográficos relativos a los indígenas del México contemporáneo, el artículo plantea que las estructuras cromáticas rojo-negro y rojo-blanco servían para traducir la alternancia de la luz y la oscuridad o de la estación seca y la estación húmeda.
