Abstract: Elvira and Sol are always referred to as the Cid's 'fijas' in the Cantar de Mio Cid until l. 2075, when they are christened their names as characters. Even though many critics believe this change clearly gives evidence for a double authorship of the poem, this article presents an alterative explanation by analysing the presence of their names and comparing it to their mother's, Jimena.

Resumen: El Cantar de Mio Cid siempre hace referencia a Elvira y Sol como "hijas" del Cid hasta el v. 2075, cuando son bautizadas como personajes. Aunque muchos autores creen que este cambio es una prueba clara de la doble autoría del poema, este artículo presenta una explicación alternativa analizando la presencia de sus nombres y comparándola con el de su madre, Jimena.

In this paper we examine the narrative formulae of the Cantar de Mio Cid (CMC) in order to trace phenomena of the transposition of the original deictic reference they include. As a result, it is argued that the formulae used by the narrator of the CMC may have a phatic function as they absorb the perspective of the addressee: either by a centripetal or a centrifugal movements of the narration. Moreover some expressions seem to serve (intratextually) to organize the informational pattern of the plot by enhancing the epic text with an additional meaning. Finally, it is concluded that the analysis of the pragmatic component of the CMC may add some new insights for its literary, linguistic and textual construction.

RÉSUMÉ:
“L’emploi de la composante déictique dans les formules narratives du Cantar de Mio Cid”

Dans cet article, nous allons analyser les formules narratives du Cantar de Mio Cid (CMC) en vue de suivre les phénomènes de la transposition de la signification déictique originale qu’elles comportent. Il sera ainsi avancé que les formules employées par le narrateur du CMC peuvent avoir une fonction phatique puisqu’elles absorbent la perspective du destinataire: que ce soit par un mouvement centripète ou centrifuge de la narration. De plus, quelques expressions semblent servir (intertextuellement) à organiser le schéma informationnel de l’intrigue en ajoutant au texte épique une signification supplémentaire. Pour finir, nous conclurons que l’analyse de la composante pragmatique du CMC peut apporter quelques nouvelles idées quant à sa construction littéraire, linguistique et textuelle.

STRESZCZENIE:
„Wykorzystanie deiktycznego komponentu języka w formułach narracyjnych Cantar de Mio Cid”

Celem artykułu jest wskazanie w formułach narracyjnych Cantar de Mio Cid  (CMC) zjawiska transpozycji pierwotnych odniesień deiktycznych w nich zawartych. Okazuje się bowiem, że formuły używane przez narratora CMC mogą spełniać funkcję fatyczną, ilekroć wchłaniają perspektywę odbiorcy przez odzwierciedlający się w opowiadaniu ruch zarówno dośrodkowy (w stronę origo), jak i odśrodkowy (od origo). Co więcej pewne wyrażenia wydają się służyć (wewnątrztekstowo) do porządkowania informacyjnej struktury fabuły poprzez naddawanie tekstowi poematu dodatkowych znaczeń. Metoda tutaj zastosowana ma wreszcie za zadanie zwrócić uwagę na potrzebę uzupełnienia analizy CMC o pragmatyczny komponent języka, co mogłoby rzucić nieco inne światło na literacką, językową i tekstową konstrukcję utworu.

Though my Spanish is non-existent and I've had to rely on translations, the methodological focus of the piece I've tried to stress lessened the burden of utilising vernacular texts but appreciating more the thematical and historical treatment of the Poem of the Cid in a Crusade study context

Here is offered a detailed study of the Battle of Tevar (1092) in the most ancient historic and literary sources on El Cid: his latin biography "Historia Roderici" (c. 1090), the Navarrese genealogy "Linage de Rodric Diaz" (c. 1200) and the epic poem devoted to him, the "Cantar de mio Cid" (c. 1207). In addition to exploring the contrast between history and poetry, the analysis allows to study the relationship between these sources, concluding that the "Linage" and the "Cantar" are most probably unrelated, but both of them are inspired by the "Historia Roderici".

Este artículo tratará de analizar cómo los personajes del Cantar de Mio Cid muestran sus características psicológicas actuando de modo diferente al resto de personajes de acuerdo con su nivel de generosidad. Por otro lado, la existencia de personajes codiciosos implica la presencia de conflictos con los generosos, un choque que rompe el equilibrio entre las fuerzas buenas y maléficas que aparecen en el poema. El rey, que es la entidad más poderosa del Cantar, tiene la potestad de dar el mayor de los regalos –la Justicia–, y la entregará al Cid como recompensa tras todos sus esfuerzos.

Este trabajo analiza las semejanzas entre los reencuentros del Cid y Alfonso VI en el momento del perdón y antes de las cortes de Toledo.
Importante: este artículo sirvió de base para una investigación a gran escala que culminó con el descubrimiento de un doppelte Kursus que afecta a todo el Cantar de Mio Cid, y que sirve como estudio principal de mi libro "El Cantar de Mio Cid: adscripción genérica y estructura tripartita" (Vigo, Academia del Hispanismo, 2012). En dicho volumen se ofrece una versión actualizada de este artículo, cuyas perspectivas se contemplan en relación al resto del poema y su doppelte Kursus.

RESUMEN
Este estudio pretende analizar la novela de Vicente Huidobro, Mio Cid Campeador: Hazaña [1930] dentro del contexto biográfico, histórico y cultural en el que se produjo y se publicó.Tras una revisión de toda las reseñas y críticas publicadas sobre el libro, ofrecemos una lecturainterpretativa de la obra en comparación con la obra La España del Cid (1929) del historiador Ramón Menéndez Pidal, atendiendo a las teorías culturales sobre orientalismo de EdwardSaid. Intentamos demostrar hasta qué extremo la estética de la modernidad técnica y dinámicaestuvo vinculada, de modo consciente o no, a una concepción colonial y etnocéntrica del otro.

ABSTRACT
This study pretends to analyze the Vicente Huidobro’s novel Mio Cid Campeador: Hazaña [1930] within the biographical, historical and cultural context in which was produced and pu- blished. After a revision of all the reviews and critics published about the book, we offer aninterpretative reading of the work in comparison with the historian Ramón Menéndez Pidal’s La España del Cid (1929), attending to the Edward Said’s cultural theories about orientalism.We try to prove until which extent the aesthetics of the technical and dinamic Modernity waslinked, consciously or not, to a colonial and ethnocentric conception of the other.

Este artículo plantea una nueva interpretación del episodio de don Remont en el Cantar de Mio Cid tras demostrar, a partir de una exhaustiva revisión, que la tradicional lectura humorística del mismo se ha basado en el muy cuestionable análisis que desarrolló Montgomery. Sin la supuesta comicidad, el episodio resulta coherente por completo con el resto del poema, mientras que la lectura humorística dejaba a la aventura sin sentido con respecto al conjunto del texto épico.

This article offers a new interpretation of the episode of don Remont in the Cantar de Mio Cid after showing, by means of a thorough revision, that its traditional humorous reading was based upon a very questionable analysis developed by Montgomery. By avoiding that supposed comicalness, the episode becomes completely coherent with the rest of the poem, whereas the humorous reading left this adventure as a meaningless chapter within the whole epic text.

In a field of study largely determined by orality, in regard to creation / recreation, performer / audience, memory / transmission, voice / notation, etc., this paper aims to shed light on aspects of epic poetry from a musicological perspective (although not dissociated from Philology and other disciplines), paying particular attention to what has been called «the new historical view of chant transmission» (H. Hucke). Thus, given that no traces of music from the Cantar de Mio Cid have come down to us (which is understandable given its «necessary» simplicity), and using the guidelines outlined in Johannes Grocheio’s De Musica, a good breeding ground for the objectives raised here can be found by comparing the forms and processes involved in hagiographic chant and in certain types of liturgical song (such as farsed epistles and particularly those in Catalonian).

Texto de la conferencia pronunciada el 8 de febrero de 2008 en el salón de actos del Ayuntamiento de Brihuega, dentro del ciclo conmemorativo del octavo centenario del Cantar de Mío Cid organizado por las bibliotecas públicas de Guadalajara. En ella se puede apreciar una España distinta en lo cultural a esa época oscura y bárbara que a menudo se nos ha presentado como Edad Media. Buena muestra es el Cantar de mío Cid, en el que se aprecia una responsabilidad artística y una elaboración literaria mucho mayor de lo que se ha venido defendiendo tradicionalmente.

Resumen
El protagonista del Cantar de mio Cid es un héore mesurado, pero también afortunado, agraciado con auze o buenaventura y "en buen hora nado". Su fortuna es innata, pero también cultivada a través de la prudencia. La suma de templanza y
osadía sirva para mantener el auze del Campeador, lo que, unido al optimismo del héroe afortunado, impregna el poema épico de un fuerte dinamismo.

Abstract
The main character of Cantar de mio Cid is a moderate hero, but also a lucky one, gifted with auze or good fortune and "born at a
lucky hour". His fortune is innate, but is also the result of his prudence. The joining of equilibrium and boldness allows the Cid to keep up his auze. In addition, the optimism of the lucky hero lends a strong dynamism to the whole epic poem.

The text published in this issue has two parts: a critical apparatus consisting of the introduction and footnotes, and a translation into Polish of the prose version of the Legend of the Seven Infants of Lara from manuscript E2 of Estoria de Espanna by Alfonso X the Wise. The critical part contains a discussion of three main research problems, which include the historicity of events and characters, potential sources of inspiration for the authors of subsequent variants of the Legend, and the relationship between these variants. Here we also find the characteristics of the source text of the translation, i.e. the royal chronicle mentioned above. The discussion of historical events and characters appearing in the legend is based on a comparative analysis of the canonical study of the subject by Ramón Manéndez Pidal included in the monograph La leyenda de los Infantes de Lara (3rd edition, 1971), as well as historical sources and the latest studies by Spanish and foreign scholars, often critical of Pidal’s research. Potential influences on the shape of the legend, originating mainly from the French epic, have been indicated for each of the threads, the content of which brings to mind associations with the texts written earlier. The relationship between the different variants of the legend is explained by the evolution of the text from the oldest song of an informative character (Spanish canto noticiero), to first and second epic songs, which have not survived to date, to the prose versions in the chronicles Estoria de Espanna and Crónica de 1344 by Pedro Alfonso, Count de Barcelos. The description of the different variants is complemented by a tabular summary of the most important differences between the prose versions of the legend from both chronicles.

The translation of the chapters of Estoria de Espanna containing the story of seven infants is based on a variant of the chronicle called Versión amplificada de 1289 (Extended Version from 1289), which belongs to the so-called post-Alfonsian chronicles and was written after the death of Alfonso X, during the reign of his son, Sancho IV the Brave. It is the oldest preserved version of the Legend of the Seven Infants of Lara, which is the basis for the later variants. The source for the translation is manuscript E2 (MS X-I-4, Biblioteca del Monasterio de San Lorenzo, El Escorial, Madrid) known in its two modern editions: Primera Crónica General de España, edited by Ramón Menédez Pidal, and Estoria de Espanna Digital, an online edition.

Siguiendo el camino trazado por los estudios dedicados a los ríos del Cantar de Mio Cid, este artículo intenta ir un poco más allá, ahondando en la presencia y función del mar en el poema. Frente al caso de los ríos, donde funcionan como frontera física, el mar no es sólo un espacio geográfico, sino también mental, en cuanto que posee un enorme valor, tanto simbólico como psicológico, que es necesario comprender a la hora de aprehender el sentido profundo de cada referencia al mar que aparece en el Cantar. Todo ello contribuirá no ya a descifrar el sentido del este crucial símbolo sino, también, a ofrecer una perspectiva del concepto medieval del mar.

Following the path traced by the researches devoted to the rivers of the Cantar de Mio Cid, this article attempts to go a step beyond by delving into the presence and functions of the sea in the poem. In contrast with the rivers, which appear as a physical frontier, the sea is not only a geographic but a mental place, as it has an important symbolic and psychological value which is necessary to understand in order to fully comprehend the meaning of the sea in every single reference to in the Cantar. On the whole, this article will not only decypher the meaning of this crucial symbol but also offer a perspective of the medieval concept of the sea.

Abstract: The purpose of this small study is to bring together, much of the viewsexpressed on the historical reliability, and this possible errors, which have been foundby various researchers since the early twentieth century, around this chronic Castilian.First in this paper mainly discuss formal issues, not going to reel in depth the nature of the text and what is included in it. Later, we studied the interpretations that have beentaking place in this text, and subsequent lines of research yet untapped about this story.Now, finally, indicate which are the preferred research lines around this chronicle, andother possible avenues of research.Keywords: Historia Roderici, Cid, Fonts, Chronic, Castile, Historiography

Tomando el análisis comparativo de tres acciones heroicas como punto de partida, este artículo trata de demostrar la existencia de paralelismos en el Cantar de Mio Cid utilizados para describir las características de diferentes personajes al oponerlos entre sí. Así, en este caso, Pedro Bermúdez y Don Jerónimo muestran diferentes rasgos, mientras que ambos, junto con Minaya Álvar Fáñez, difieren claramente de los Infantes de Carrión. Este análisis también se centra en el sentido ritual de las acciones antiheróicas de los Infantes, las cuales pueden comprenderse mejor tras compararlas con las llevadas a cabo por los caballeros del Cid.

Taking the comparative analysis of three heroic actions as its starting point, this article attempts to prove the existence of parallelisms within the Cantar de Mio Cid used to describe the features of different characters by opposing them. So, in this case, Pedro Bermúdez and Don Jerónimo show different heroic features, while both of them, together with Minaya Álvar Fáñez, clearly differ from the Infantes de Carrión. This analysis also focuses on the ritual meaning of the Infantes’ anti-heroic actions, which can be better understood after comparing them to those performed by the Cid’s knights.

In this work we analyse the different musical manifestations which are inspired, directly or indirectly, by the figure of El Cid along its eight hundred years of existence as aliterary character. The article is divided into two well separate parts. The first one looks into general issues of the relationship between musical ranges and forms, whilst the second gets closer to aspects of the presence and survival of our hero in the traditional festivals of Moors and Christians (“Moros y Cristianos”). The music specifically created for these festivities, which have a common creative space in medieval inspiration, place El Cid and its medieval world in a privileged field as far as popular transmission and diffusion is concerned. FR: Le Pseudo-Turpin a joui en Espagne d’un succès plus discret que dans les autres pays européens, tant au sein de la couronne de Castille que sur le territoire aragonais, du fait que les pages épiques espagnoles sont en nombre réduit – les rares allusions turpiniennes devenant ainsi précieuses – et que la chronique contient un discours francophile. En effet, confronté au Moyen Âge à des contextes historiques, culturels et idéologiques opposés, le texte turpinien a surtout été employé par l’historiographie castillane en latin dans le but de contester la matière rolandienne et d’élaborer un discours national. Cette tendance semble néanmoins disparaître dans l’œuvre historiographique de l’aragonais Fernández de Heredia, lequel connaît indirectement le document. Seul le contexte politique du début du XVIe siècle permettra une nouvelle lecture de la chronique par la traduction du Fierabras de Jean Bagnyon.
EN: The Pseudo-Turpin enjoyed a more nuanced success in Spain than in other European countries, both in Castile and in Aragon, because Spanish epic production is more reduced– rare Turpinian references become therefore all the more valuable– and also because the Chronicle embodies a Francophile discourse. In fact, in the Middle Ages, facing opposing historical, cultural and ideological contexts, the Turpinian text was used primarily by Castilian historiography in Latin with the goal of challenging Rolandian material and elaborating a national discourse. This tendency seems nonetheless to disappear in the historiographical work of the Aragonese Fernández de Heredia, who knew the document indirectly. Only the political context of the beginning of the sixteenth century will bring a new reading of the Chronicle through the translation of Jean Bagnyon’s Fierabras.""
