L’aviation commerciale est aujourd’hui le moyen de transport le plus sûr au monde. Néanmoins des incidents surviennent encore, et ils sont souvent reliés à l’erreur humaine. La surveillance inadéquate des instruments de bord est une des causes principales de ces incidents. Une des pistes possibles permettant d’accroitre encore la sécurité est d’introduire l’oculométrie – technique du suivi du regard – dans le cockpit afin d’améliorer l’interaction entre l’équipage et les systèmes aéronautiques. Dans cet article nous illustrons un cas d’accident où la surveillance inadéquate est un des facteurs contributifs. Nous décrivons point par point la façon dont l’oculométrie aurait pu prévenir le crash.

This document provides an overview of Cockpit Display of Traffic Information (CDTI) products as of May 2016, including those with airport moving map functionality, and airport moving map applications without traffic depiction. This document updates and replaces the Volpe Center’s 2009 airport moving map industry survey. The information for this report was gathered through industry contacts, websites, and online product brochures. This report was conducted in support of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), but the information is intended to be of use to anyone interested in CDTI and airport moving map products. In laboratory studies of vigilance, participants watch for unusual events in a "sit and stare" fashion as their performance typically declines over time. But watch keepers in practical settings seldom approach monitoring in such simplistic ways and controlled environments. We observed airline pilots performing routine monitoring duties in the cockpit. Unlike laboratory studies, pilots' monitoring did not deteriorate amidst prolonged vigils. Monitoring was frequently interrupted by other pop-up tasks and misses followed. However, when free from these distractions, pilots reported copious mind wandering. Pilots often confined their mind wandering to times in which their monitoring performance would not conspicuously suffer. But when no convenient times were available, pilots mind wandered anyway and misses ensued.
