The symposium “The found Christ” took place in Cervignano del Friuli (Udine) on Saturday, December 3, 2005, within the homonymous multi-year project (coord. scient. S. Blason Scarel and P. Casadio) dedicated to the rediscovery of the "Christ of the Countess", a colossal medieval wooden crucifix preserved in the chapel of St. Cross, the gentilitial oratory of the villa Bresciani in Cervignano. The Conference Proceedings are published two years later, enriched by further updates: in the volume the author outlines – for the first time – the history of the residence founded by the noble Bresciani family in Cervignano (the precious 'background' of the ancient sculpture) and he describes the different buildings, the dependencies and the furnishings including his famous 'guest', suggesting again the proposal that he already put forth at the symposium: that it is to be identified with the "Christ of St. Felix", a gigantic wooden crucifix seen in 1570 by the apostolic visitor Bartolomeo of Porcia & Brugnera inside the Basilica of Sts. Felix e Fortunate in Aquileia, at that time still raised although no more flourishing

Sabato 3 dicembre 2005 a Cervignano si svolse il convegno “Il Cristo ritrovato”, nell’ambito dell’omonimo progetto pluriennale (coordinamento scientifico: S. Blason Scarel - P. Casadio) dedicato alla riscoperta del “Cristo della Contessa”, il colossale crocifisso ligneo medievale conservato nella cappella di S. Croce, l’oratorio gentilizio della villa Bresciani a Cervignano. A due anni di distanza vede la luce il volume degli atti – arricchito da ulteriori aggiornamenti – al cui interno l’autore per la prima volta delinea le vicende storiche della dimora cervignanese fatta costruire dalla nobile famiglia Bresciani (il prezioso ‘sfondo’ dell’antica scultura) e ne descrive i diversi fabbricati, le pertinenze e l’arredo compreso il suo celebre ‘ospite’, riproponendo la proposta già avanzata durante il convegno: che esso sia da identificare con il “Cristo di San Felice”, il gigantesco crocifisso in legno visto dal visitatore apostolico Bartolomeo di Porcia e Brugnera nel 1570 all’interno della basilica aquileiese dei Santi Felice e Fortunato, all’epoca non più fiorente ma ancora in alzato

THE CULT OF DIONYSOS IN ASIA MINOR
IN THE ROMAN IMPERIAL AGE

Making his presence, which can be traced long before the Archaic Age, deeply felt mainly in Hellas, Asia Minor and then in Rome throughout the ancient world, Dionysos, depending on the place and time, appears before us sometimes as a god of grape-wine, sometimes as a god of theatre and acting arts and sometimes as a religious power shaped according to the local needs, however, he has generally been a god of nature representing the fertility and abundance. According to the inscriptions, Dionysos was mentioned with many epithetons in Asia Minor of the Roman Imperial Age, and that he was a god of nature bringing abundance-fertility and his many other features can be observed by these epithetons. Depending on the long stated customs, the cult of Dionysos in Asia Minor survived throughout the Roman Imperial Age (especially in the II-III. Century A.D. with festivals, cult associations and structuring, artists (musicians, players, dancers) that served his cult. According to the written records, festivals such as Dionysia, Lēnaia, Anthestēria, Trietēris organized in the name of Dionysos were celebrated. Dance, music and play competitions were made in these festivals maintained by the rich citizens or directors and not commonly known cult rituals were performed. Besides the associations of synodos artists called by different names in different times in the large cities of the west, cult associations broad in scope such as thiasos, speira or cult member groups with large audience in various names were active both in worshipping and these festivals. In order to achieve this, undoubtedly, both artist associations and cult associations had to have a well organized governing structure. Names were given to the cult members according to the task taken. These members also had to pay a membership fee in order to be a member or to continue to be one. Actually, these fees were as important as the epimeletes in the mainta-nance of these associations. In addition, they were supported both mate-rially and spiritually by the Roman emperors or provincial governors. Although the paganic religious activities in the lands of Asia Minor under the control of Rome were left to the free will of the cities, they would not be strong without the respect shown for the cults of the emperors, emperor and the Roman goddess (Dea Roma). The worshipping of Dionysos could only develop with the close relations with the emperors and the Roman Empire. Correspondingly, supporting a paganic cult significant for the people, the Roman Empire gained the sympathy of the people and also kept them loyal to Rome. The deification of the Roman emperors began with General Marcus Antonius, who was wellcomed as “New Dionysos” on his arrival to Ephesos, and continued in the Roman Imperial Age. During this period the associations in Anazarbos, Ankyra, Ephesos, Teōs, Aphrodisias and Sardeis characterised Emperor Hadrianus, Commodus and Caracalla by this epitheton. Thus, they deified them by considering them equal with Dionysos. Dionysos also had common worship with imperial or Dea Roma cult besides the common paganic worship of Zeus and Dēmētēr. Like all other paganic religions, the cult of Dionysos broke down with the strengthening Christianity with which it had opposite doctrines and finally with the acceptance of Christianity as the official religion of the state. However, many features of the Dionysos cult continued to exist in Asia Minor both in Christian features and local cultures and traditions. Today it still continues this effect.

Arkaik Çağ’dan çok daha eskilere götürebildiğimiz varlığını, coğrafi olarak başta Hellas, Küçükasya ve sonraları Roma olmak üzere tüm Antik Çağ coğrafyasında etkin bir şekilde hissettiren Dionysos, yer ve zaman farkına bağlı olarak, bazı yerlerde üzüm-şarap tanrısı, bazılarında tiyatro ve sahne sanatlarının tanrısı, bazılarında ise yerel ihtiyaçlar doğrultusunda şekillendirilmiş dinsel bir güç olarak karşımıza çıkmıştır. Ama genel olarak bereket ve bolluğu temsil eden bir doğa tanrısı kimliğine sahip olmuştur. Yazıtlardan anlaşıldığına göre Roma İmparatorluk Çağı Küçükasyası’ nda birçok epitheton ile anılan Dionysos’un, bolluk-bereket getiren bir doğa tanrısı olduğu ve diğer başka özellikleri gene bu epitheton’larından anlaşılmaktadır. Küçükasya’daki Dionysos kültü Roma İmparatorluk Çağı boyunca (bilhassa M.S. II-III. yüzyılarda), öncesinden gelen bir geleneğe bağlı olarak şenlikleri, kült dernekleri ve yapılanması, kültüne hizmet eden sanatçıları (müzisyenler, oyuncular, dansçılar) ile varlığını sürdürmüştür. Yazılı belgelerden bu dönemde büyük ve zengin kentlerde hâlâ Dionysia, Lēnaia, Anthestēria, Trietēris gibi Dionysos adına tertiplenen şenliklerin kutlandığını; masrafları, epimeletes olarak bildiğimiz kentin zengin vatandaşları ya da yöneticileri tarafından karşılanan bu şenliklerde külte ilişkin dans, müzik ve oyun yarışmaların yapıldığını ve herkesçe bilinmeyen kült ritüellerinin uygulandığını öğrenmekteyiz. Bilhassa batı kesimlerdeki büyük kentlerdeki, farklı dönemlerde farklı isimlerle anılan synodos sanatçı derneklerinin yanında thiasos, speira gibi daha geniş kapsamlı kült dernekleri ya da en yaygını mystai olan çeşitli adlar altında toplanan geniş kitleli kült üye grupları hem tapınımda, hem de bu şenliklerde aktif olmuşlardır. Şüphesiz ki bunu gerçekleştirebilmek adına gerek sanatçı dernekleri gerekse kült dernekleri, iyi organize olmuş bir idari yapılanmaya sahip olmak durumundaydı. Bu derneklerde üstlendikleri görevlere göre adlandırılan kült üyelerinin, üye olabilmeleri veya üyeliklerini sürdü-rebilmeleri için ödemek zorunda oldukları aidatlar da vardı. Esasen bu derneklerin finansmanının karşılanmasında bu aidatlar, en az epimeletes’ ler kadar önemliydi. Ayrıca Roma imparatorlarının ya da eyalet yöneticilerinin hem manevi hem de maddi desteğini alıyorlardı. Zira bu dönemde Roma egemenliği altında bulunan Küçükasya topraklarındaki pagan dinsel yaşam her ne kadar kentlerin özgür iradesine bırakılmışsa da, imparatorlara, imparator ve Roma Tanrıçası (Dea Roma) kültüne gösterilen saygı olmaksızın güçlü kalamazdı. Küçükasya Dionysos tapınımı da, tamamıyla imparatorlar ve Roma İmparatorluğu ile kurulan güçlü bağlar sayesinde gelişebilmiştir. Bununla paralel olarak da Roma İmparatorluğu, halk için önemli olan pagan bir kültü destekleyerek, hem halkın sempatisini kazanmakta, hem de böylece onların Roma’ya olan bağlılığını sürdürmek amacını gütmekteydi. General Marcus Antonius’un Ephesos’a gelişinde “Yeni Dionysos” olarak karşılanmasıyla başlayan Romalı devlet adamlarını tanrılaştırma geleneği, Roma İmparatorluk Çağı’nda da sürmüş; bu dönemde özellikle Anazarbos, Ankyra, Ephesos, Teōs, Aphrodisias ve Sardeis’teki dernekler, İmparator Hadrianus, Commodus ve Caracalla’yı bu sıfatla nitelendirmişler, böylece onları Dionysos ile bir tutarak tanrılaştırmışlardır. İmparatorluk veya Dea Roma kültü ile ortak tapınımı da görülen Dionysos’un Zeus ve Dēmētēr gibi pagan tanrı-tanrıçalarla da ortak tapınımı söz konusudur. Diğer pagan dinler gibi Dionysos kültünün yıkımı da, öğretilerinin birbirine tamamen ters düştüğü Hıristiyanlık dininin güçlenmesiyle ve nihayetinde M.S. 391’de imparatorluğun resmî dini olmasıyla gerçekleşmiştir. Ancak Dionysos kültünün birçok unsuru, Küçükasya topraklarında, gerek Hıristiyanlık unsurlarında gerekse halk kültür ve geleneklerinde yaşamaya devam etmiştir. Bugün de bu etkisini göstermeye devam etmektedir."

On the basis of archaeological, numismatic, and (mainly) epigraphic attestations, B.Öztürk,Roma imparatorluk çağı Küçükasaysı’nda Dionysos kültü (Istanbul 2010), studies the cult ofΔιόνυσος in Roman Asia Minor. After general remarks about the god, he presents a geographically arranged catalogue of the relevant inscriptions with brief comments (ph. of some texts). On 196-209, Ö. provides a register with explanations of the most important terms found in the inscriptions, and on 210/211 a list of epithets.

In 2018, a team from the Austrian Archaeological Institute uncovered an alphabetic inscription that was painted onto a fragment of a Cypriote White Slip II milk bowl. The significance of the Lachish Milk Bowl Ostracon (LMBO) for biblical history cannot be overstated, as this ostracon ties the Israelites of Joshua's campaign directly to Canaan at the end of the 15th century BC. This inscribed potsherd from Lachish’s destruction layer, which dates to near the end of the Late Bronze Age I, attests to Israelites in Canaan just before 1400 BC. The ostracon includes a brief but legible writing in the script of the world’s oldest alphabet, whose prior attestation is reserved almost exclusively for inscriptions from Egypt (Lahun, Wadi el-Ḥôl) and Sinai (Wadi Naṣb, Serâbîṭ el-Khâdim), which the author previously demonstrated to be written in the Hebrew language. The LMBO is possibly the most definitive form of evidence of the Israelite conquest of Canaan yet discovered by archaeologists excavating in Israel.

Tios (Zonguldak-Filyos) kentteki arkeolojik kazılar 2007 senesinden beri Karadeniz Ereğli Müzesi adına, sırasıyla Prof. Dr. Sümer Atasoy ve Doç. Dr. Şahin Yıldırım’ın bilimsel danışmanlıklarıyla akropolis, antik liman, tiyatro ve nekropolis alanlarında yürütülmüş ve bölge tarihinin güncellenmesine olanak veren önemli buluşlara sahne olmuştur. Arkeolojik çalışmalara paralel olarak yürütülen epigrafik araştırmalar da kentten günümüze ulaşmış Hellenistik ve Roma dönemlerine ait mezar taşlarını, onurlandırma heykel kaidelerini, adakları, miltaşlarını, ticari ağırlıklarını ve diğer türlerdeki yazıtlı buluntuları gün yüzüne çıkarmıştır.

Bu buluntular arasından beyaz mermerden silindir bir onurlandırma heykel kaidesinin üzerindeki yazıtının ise sadece bu kentin değil aynı zamanda Anadolu’nun Roma tarihi açısından önem arz ettiği anlaşılmıştır. Zira antik literatürde sadece ünlü yazar Nikaialı Cassius Dio’nun (MS yak. 150-235) Roma tarihini kaleme aldığı eserinde (Rhomaika, 79.39.5) adı geçen Roma İmparatorluğu’nun Pontus-Bithynia Eyaleti Valisi Caecilius Aristo, bu unvanıyla ilk defa bu yazıtta belgelenmiş oldu. Yazıtın çevirisi şöyledir:

Tiosluların pek görkemli/gösterişli kenti, legatus Augusti propraetore (imparatorun praetor mertebesindeki elçisi) Caecilius Aristo’nun yönetim döneminde... (şu kişi/kişileri onurlandırdı)

Bilinen tarihe göre, Roma İmparatorluğu’nun iç savaşlarla çalkalandığı bir dönemde Roma İmparatoru Caracalla’yı, kendisinin tertiplediği bir suikastla (MS 08.04.217) öldürtmeyi başaran Macrinus imparator olmayı başarmıştı. Ancak bu kez kendisi Iulia Maesa’nın himayesinde olan torunu Varius Avitus’a yani namı diğer Elagabalus’a karşı Antiokheia’daki savaşı kaybetmiştir. Bir seneden biraz fazla tahtta kalabilmiş devrik imparator Macrinus bunun üzerine gizli bir şekilde Roma’ya gitmeye ve Senato ile halkı ikna ederek iktidarını yeniden elde etmeyi amaçlamıştır. Böylece kılık değiştirerek Kilikia, Kappadokia, Galatia ve Bithynia bölgeleri üzerinden Eribolon’daki (İhsaniye) limana ulaşmış buradan Kalkhedon’a varmıştır. İşte Cassius Dio tam da bu noktada Macrinus’un, Vali Caecilius Aristo’nun korkusundan (Eyalet Başkenti) Nikomedeia’ya girmeye çekindiğini belirtmiştir. Dolayısıyla, Dio’nun MS 08.06.218’den kısa bir süre sonrasını kayda geçen bu cümlesi, bugüne kadar Aristo’nun o dönemde bölge valisi olduğunun dolaylı yoldan belgesiydi. Ancak şimdi Tios’ta ortaya çıkan bu yazıtla, önceki kariyerinin ufak bir kısmı Roma’daki birkaç belgeden tanınan Caecilius Aristo’nun hem adı hem de eyalet valiliği doğrulanmış oldu.

La presente investigación tiene por fin dar aproximaciones hacia el concepto de prostitución, prostituto y prostituta en el mundo grecorromano, considerando los distintos significados que le fueron otorgados, así como también la visión de varias fuentes frente al tema. Es un estudio comprensivo de los conceptos y las diversificaciones eufemísticas y disfemísticas que les fueron otorgadas a las personas que realizaban actos sexuales. Los resultados son una apertura a la discusión y al debate sobre la prostitución y quienes ejercían dichos actos, así como también una profundización a una realidad social vivida en el mundo grecorromano.

Abstract
The aim of this research is to get closer to the notion of prostitution, male prostitute, and female prostitute in the Greco-Roman world, considering the different meanings that were given to these words, and also the vision of many sources related to the topic. It is a comprehensive study about concepts and euphemistic and disfemistic diversifications, which were given to the people who practiced sexual relationships. The results are an opening to discussion and debate about prostitution and who practiced these acts, just like a deepening to a social reality lived in the Greco-Roman world.

O presente estudo tem a finalidade de aproximar-se do conceito de prostituição, prostituto e prostituta no mundo greco-romano, considerando os diferentes significados que lhe foram outorgados, bem como a visão de várias fontes em relação ao tema. É um estudo abrangente dos conceitos e das diversificações eufemísticas e disfemísticas que lhe foram outorgadas às pessoas que realizavam atos sexuais. Os resultados são uma abertura à discussão e ao debate sobre a prostituição e àquelas pessoas que exerciam tais atos, bem como um aprofundamento a uma realidade social vivida no mundo greco-romano.

La recherche suivante a par objet donner des approches vers l’idée de prostitution, prostitué et prostituée dans monde gréco-romain, en considérant les différents significations qu’on donné à ces paroles, et aussi la vision de beaucoup de sources relatives au sujet. C’est une etude comprehensive sur des idées et les diversifications euphémistiques et disfemístiques, lesquelles ont été donnés aux personnes qui pratiquaient des rapports sexuels. Les résultats sont une ouverture à la discussion et au débat sur la prostitution et qui pratiquaient ces actes, ainsi qu’ approfondir dans une réalité sociale vécue dans le monde gréco-romain.

Indus inscriptions hold the key to unlocking the history of pre-Iron Age India and all Indo-European peoples but remain undeciphered for over a century. All prior attempts have been partial, unsatisfactory and unfalsifiable. We decipher the Indus script by treating it as a large cryptogram as described by Claude Shannon. We decipher every sign sequentially using regular expressions and set-intersection. Indus script is discovered to be proto-abugida segmental with signs for consonants and vowels. Indus inscriptions are in grammatically correct post-Vedic Sanskrit. Variants of 76 allographs constitute most signs. Conjunct signs constitute the rest. Our decipherment can read every inscription and we translate 500+ inscriptions including the 50+ longest, 50+ shortest and 400+ medium-sized inscriptions including 100+ inscriptions with conjunct signs. We comfortably surpass Shannon’s criteria for a credible cryptogram decipherment. Brahmi glyphs are discovered to be standardized Indus signs. We find significant continuation of Indus linguistic features and cultural elements in post-bronze age India.

La digitalizzazione delle iscrizioni: metodi e tecniche Poche discipline possono vantare di aver digitalizzato la quasi integrità del patrimonio documentario di loro interesse come l'epigrafia latina e greca ([12];[13]). Con trent'anni di esperienza nella digitalizzazione delle iscrizioni, l'epigrafia può vantare di essere arrivata molto vicino a questo risultato, 1 ma ha anche imparato molto sulla sostenibilità di tale impresa e sul continuo impegno che essa comporta. Nel corso del progetto EAGLE (Europeana Network for Ancient Greek and Latin Epigraphy, 2013-2016) è stato per esempio realizzato un modello, basato sull'affermato standard TEI/EpiDoc ([1];[4];[10]) in grado di garantire una mappatura a CIDOC-CRM e all'EMD (Europeana Metadata Model). Questo lavoro ha reso possibile non solo lo sviluppo del portale EAGLE con le sue funzionalità fino ad allora solo auspicate dalla comunità internazionale degli epigrafisti, ma ha anche permesso di raccogliere un significativo consorzio di partner e di produrre risorse aggiuntive, come ad esempio la Virtual Exhibition "Signs of Life" che raccoglie link a progetti, 3D, infografica in una introduzione per non addetti ai lavori ([9]).

Epigraphers and archaeologists working in Egypt must navigate a host of complex relationships both on and off site. This chapter explores the multifaceted nature of local Egyptian peoples’ relationships with nearby monuments through the lens of a single case study: the site of Sheikh Abd al-Qurna and its local population, the Qurnawi. Egyptologists have not traditionally sought to incorporate formally the stories and histories of local populations in their studies of pharaonic sites. An increasing blend of social awareness and the desire for social action on the part of both foreign professionals and local activists, however, is pushing Egyptologists to re-evaluate their practices, which, in turn, is moving the discipline in new and positive directions.

Se ofrece una nueva reimpresión con una nota inicial de la reconstruction del Edicto Perpetuo propuesta por el gran romanista alemán Adolf August Friedrich Rudorff. Aunque superada por la reconstrucción de Otto Lenel, esta de Rudorff todavía tiene vigencia, por ser mas intuitiva y a veces mas acertada que la propuesta por  Lenel. Es, pues, de consulta obligada para todos los estudiosos del edicto del Pretor.

Surat incung merupakan salah satu aksara yang ada di Indonesia. Surat incung digunakan oleh masyarakat Suku Kerinci dalam menulis naskah-naskah kuno baik pada media tanduk, kulit kayu, daluang, tulang, dan bambu. Aksara ini merupakan bagian dari surat ulu yang digunakan oleh beberapa etnis di Sumatera bagian Selatan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa naskah surat incung tidak hanya berisi silsilah atau riwayat nenek moyang suatu kelompok masyarakat Kerinci (tembo) dan prosa ratapan, tetapi juga berisi mantra-mantra. Terdapat sekitar 9 naskah surat incung berisi mantra-mantra yang diketahui hingga kini. Mantra-mantra dalam naskah surat incung berupa mantra pujian terhadap arwah leluhur, mantra untuk pelindung atau pakaian diri serta mantra untuk upacara atau ritual seperti untuk ritual penanaman padi. Selain itu, mantra-mantra dalam surat incung dipengaruhi oleh unsur Animisme, Hindu-Budha dan Islam. Los conventos novohispanos poseían, desde el siglo XVI, espacios destinados como cárceles para encerrar a religiosos que violaran la Regla o las Constituciones. Estos lugares, conocidos como cárceles, son quizá de los más difíciles de identificar en la actualidad, por ello, su interés reside en saber dónde se encontraban y los aspectos sociales que rodeaban los castigos.
En el convento agustino de Valladolid de Michoacán, cabeza de la Provincia de San Nicolás de Tolentino, existió una cárcel que fue descubierta de manera circunstancial mientras se realizaban algunos trabajos de decoración de un corredor del claustro. Nuestro descubrimiento e importancia del mismo fue comunicado al entonces prior, fray Nicolás Morales, quien tuvo la disposición para que este espacio se conservara.
La cárcel del convento aún guarda muchos secretos, ocultos bajo capas de pintura que algún día serán develados y podremos obtener una mejor idea de la cotidianeidad de la vida de los frailes agustinos en los siglos XVII y XVIII.

We have seen that several vedic seals are standards containing,vedic metrology,vedic geneology and proclamations by vedic kings.In this article we are identifying the Vedic King Divodasa and his relation to Varanasi/Kaasi and the Kumbha Mela of Prayaga.

One of four known ancient Maya books, the Grolier Codex depicts different manifestations of Venus; the column of glyphs on the left of each panel records days in a 104-year Venus almanac. These plaster-coated bark-paper pages, carbon-dated to the 13th century, represent only half of the 20-page original. This article is an excerpt of pages 98-99 from the March 1990 National Geographic Magazine article "America's Ancient Skywatchers" by John B. Carlson with a numbered photographic arrangement of the Grolier Codex depicting the author's discovery that Codex pages 10 and 11 are actually two parts of the same "page 10".  Carlson clarifies the identities of Venus deities depicted in the Grolier Codex from a comparison of images from the Cacaxtla murals and links the images of the Grolier Codex with ancient Maya astronomically timed ritual warfare and sacrifice. My talk today focuses on a specific text, an inscription reading barakat Muḥammad, or 'the blessing of Muḥammad’, and always following the square Kufic format. Contrary to their absence in scholarship on Islamic art and epigraphy, such barakat Muḥammad squares are rather widespread in Morocco. In the old cities of Fez, Meknes, Marrakesh, Essaouira and elsewhere, observant visitors may spot them on mosques, minarets, shrines, city gates, fountains, and other buildings including a giant sculpture in the middle of a roundabout. As I hope to demonstrate, these inscriptions might tell us something about how their commissioners intended to govern, perhaps not the whole world, but at least the state of Morocco. Before tracing the history of this specific inscription in the second part of my talk, I would first like to summarise a few interrelated points about texts, images, and icons more broadly in Islamic art. This is likely to be familiar to some of you, though perhaps not useless to remind us of some points that will then help to contextualise the barakat Muḥammad inscriptions. I should clarify beforehand that whatever I say here is little more than a proposal, a suggestion of how to incorporate a phenomenon specific to Morocco into the broader discourse pertaining to Islamic texts, images, and icons. To that end, I first intend to present a few brief notes on how texts may function as images and even as icons.

Teknolojinin bilime sunduğu yeni belgeleme ve analiz metotları birçok disipline adapte edilerek araştırmaların detaylı ve hızlı bir biçimde yapılmasına imkan tanımaktadır. Burada sunulan çalışma son yıllarda kültürel miras araştırmalarında kullanılan Yansıtma Dönüşümlü Görüntüleme (Reflectance Transformation Imaging-RTI) metodunun epigrafi araştırmalarında yazıtların belgeleme ve analiz süreçlerine sunduğu yenilikleri incelemektedir. RTI, bir nesne yüzeyinin farklı açılardan aydınlatılmasıyla elde edilen görüntü verilerinden sentezlenen yansıtma değerlerini kullanarak nesne yüzeyinin mikro-topografyasını ortaya çıkaran sayısal bir fotoğraflama me-todudur. Özellikle tahribata uğramış arkeolojik eserlerin yüzey detaylarının belgelenmesinde ve yorum-lanmasında ya da yazıt taşıyıcısı yüzeyindeki aşınmış harflerin karakterize edilmesinde görsel algıyı artırarak analiz süreçlerine pozitif katkılar sunmaktadır. Çalışmada 'tahribatsız' belgelemeye ve çok yönlü analize imkan veren RTI metodunun teknik ardalanı ve çalışma prensipleri Phaselis epigrafi araş-tırmalarında yürütülen RTI çalışmalarından sunulan örnekler ışığında detaylı bir biçimde aktarılmıştır.

Abstract: Today's advanced technology has accelerated the use of digital imaging methods and brought new approaches to cultural heritage research. The new documentation and analysis methods have been adapted to various disciplines; which has made quick and detailed research possible. This study examines the innovations in documentation and analysis of the inscriptions in epigraphy through the RTI (Reflectance Transformation Imaging) method which has recently begun to be employed in cultural heritage in recent years. RTI is a computational photographic method that records the micro-topography of the surface of an object by using reflectance properties synthesised from the image data that obtained through illuminating the object's surface from different angles. The method has contributed in particular to documenting and for accuracy in commenting upon partially destroyed surfaces of archaeological artifacts; and in enabling the characterisation of the letters of the damaged surface of an inscription bearer, through increasing the definition of the visual evidence. The study presents the technical background and the working principles of the RTI method which enables multi-directional analysis and a documentation process in a 'non-destructive' way, through a consideration of the examples of RTI studies conducted in epigraphical research at Phaselis.

This dissertation aims to decipher the consonants system of Old Korean in Baekje which is based upon the phonological correspondences of Sinographic readings which can be attested in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese chronicles, epigraphs and wooden tablets.
  Chapter Ⅰ firstly discusses the histrory of phonological studies on Old Korean in Baekje from the late of 19th century to the contemporary era which can be divided into two phases: The Embryonic Phase (1879~1970) and The Development Phase (1971~). The Embryonic Phase started with the toponymy research of Korean Peninsula by Japanese scholars during the Japanese colonial period. The Development Phase (1971~) was initiated by the publications of Baekjemunhwa, Baekjeyeongu, MahanBaekjemunhwa in South Korea, mostly including some short introductory papers, Samguksaki(1145) Jiriji based studies, Nihonshoi(720) based studied, and all chronicles combined studies, epigraphs and wooden tablets based studies.
  Secondly, the detailed methodologies are proposed, which include the background of history studies on Baekje; the background of historical linguistics which is the theoretical basis of the phonological correspondences of Sinographic readings in lexicons of Old Korean in Baekje; the entire sequence of this study including the textual research of all first-hand materials, the collection of all Baekjeic lexicons and phonographic morphemes, the match-made of the phonological correspondences of Sinographic readings in Old Korean in Baekje, based on archaeological, historical, toponymy studies, and the phonological analysis of Sinographic readings.
  In Chapter Ⅱ, textual research was carried out thoroughly. The materials used include all Baekjeic first-hand materials of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese Chronicles from the late 3rd century to 13th century, as well as epigraph materials and wooden tablets in both China and Korea. Also, Old Korean Proper Nouns such as place names, personal names, and Kings names were collected to pick out all phonographs of Old Korean in Baekje for phonological analysis in the phonological correspondences of Sinographic readings.
  Moreover, to decipher the consonants system of Old Korean in Baekje, the explanations of all phonographs in Guangyun are based on Yu(2008), the Chinese phonological systems include the Minimal Old Chinese, Late Han, Middle Chinese which are mainly based on the reconstructions in Schuessler(2009). The historical Korean phonological systems include Old Korean, Middle Korean, Middle Sino-Korean which are mainly based on the studies of Park(1971), Lee(1972, 1998, 2011), Lee(1995), Kwon(1997ㄴ, 2005, 2009ㄱ, 2009ㄴ), Ito(2007). The historical Japanese systems include archaic kana orthography studies, Old Japanese and Ko-on, Go-on and Kan-on of Sino-Japanese which are mainly based on ōya(1911), Vovin(2009), Miyake(2003a), Frellesvig(2010), Tsukishima(1995), Numoto(1986, 1997).
  At last in Chapter Ⅱ, there are 7 consonants as initials in a syllable that can be deciphered: voiceless bilabial plosive **p-, voiceless alveolar dental **t-,  voiceless velar **k-,  bilabial nasal **m-, alveolar dental nasal **n-,  voiceless alveolar dental fricative **s-, and voiceless alveolar affricate **ts-. The oppositions of voicing and the oppositions of aspiration cannot be attested. The glottal initial /ʔ/ which is reconstructed in Middle Chinese is deciphered as Zero **Ø in the phonographs of Baekje.
  Chapter Ⅲ deciphers the consonant **-r- as a liquid that can be attested between  syllables, instead of an initial consonant or coda in a word. And the elimination of /-r-/ as a special phonological change is well attested in old Korean lexicons including Baekje’s.
  Chapter Ⅳ deciphers the consonants **-l, **-s, **-n, **-ŋ as coda in a syllable in Old Korean in Baekje. Moreover, the lateral **-l is explained as the elimination of vowel V2 and the unrelease of C2 in a C1V1.C2V2 word structure. And unreleased voiceless alveolar dental fricative **-s is explained as the elimination of vowel V2 and the unrelease of C2 in a C1V1.C2V2 type word or as a genitive case between two words. The change of syllabic structural in C1V1.C2V2 type word is explained as a result of language contact with Chinese and Chinese characters whose syllabic structure is (C)(G)VC.
  Chapter Ⅴ concludes with an appeal for the trilateral cooperation from Chinese, Korean and Japanese historical phonology studies which include the sounds of Old, Late Han, Middle Chinese, Sino-Korean studies, and Sino-Japanese studies, as well as the interdisciplinary work on Archaeology, History, Toponymy to decipher the phonological systems of Old Korean. Meanwhile, the limitations of this study which include recriticizing all first-hand materials, reevaluating and developing the methodology in old Korean phonology studies are reflected. Finally the future research outlook on old Korean studies is put forward reasonably.
