Histoire du cérémonial

The relation between music, musicians and the prince in the Savoy
court at the end of the Middle Ages encompasses significant aspects of ceremonial
representation of power within a territorial principality with a composite culture, which developed along the western Alps, between today’s France, Switzerland and
Italy.
Original accountancy sources provide evidence that since the 14th century the
Savoy and Savoy-Achaea courts carefully recruited musicians and minstrels for ceremonial
as well as recreational roles, their social status and duties – particularly for the
trombetti – very similar to those of heralds. The first duke, Ame´de´e VIII (1391-1440),
an important figure in the consolidation of the Savoy state, elaborated an ‘image policy’
inspired by the court of Burgundy, which involved an artistic and musical patronage
comparable with that of other European courts: Ame´de´e himself appointed in
1434, as director of a first cappella, Guillaume Dufay. Under Louis, son of Ame´de´e
VIII, the dukedom’s prestige decreased, as the court’s magnificence grew and the
fortunate musical policy continued, with the increment of the cappella and the
reappointment of Dufay (from whom celebrative compositions were commissioned).
The same apparent paradox reappeared under the princedom of Ame´de´ e IX, son
of Louis, and under the regency of his wife, Yolande of France: while the State underwent
dramatic moments, compressed under the pressure of France, Milan and other
members of the dynasty, between 1465 and 1469 the cappella was radically reorganized
and increased its fame and prestige among European and Italian courts, a Colle`
ge des Innocents was founded, along with frequent and magnificent celebrations.
This was not an irresponsible escape from reality, but a political choice, an attempt
to outwardly affirm the control of power and the possession of economic resources.
The strong symbolic value of the upkeep of singers and musicians at court,
regarded as an attribute of ducal sovereignty and dignity, was contined by Charles
II, the last ‘medieval’ duke of Savoy, who was to be overcome by the Italian wars.
Charles was able to emulate Ame´de´e VIII in his capacity for representation of power
by means of ceremony and magnificence, and therefore conferred a particular importance
on professional musicians, regardless of the ups and downs of destiny.

Late Medieval Papal Legation is a result of long term study of papal legates in the late medieval period. Even though this crucial institution of the reform papacy of the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth centuries kept its standards as designed in the classical canon law, it was transformed according to the current needs of the papacy in later periods. A substantial change came after the conciliar crisis and before the radical transformation of the first half of the sixteenth century. In the second half of the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, papal legates de latere, as cardinals, travelled all around Europe in support of the recovered papal authority after the conciliar period and before the outbreak of the German Reformation.

This volume attempts to systematise the changes of this specific period in the development of the papacy. It is based on extensive research in the Vatican Archives and Library, other Italian and especially Central European archives and libraries, and published sources of the period. The volume focuses on the terminology and theory of papal legation, on the sources and expression of legatine authority and on the system in relation to practical matters (ceremonial, travelling, finance), and political, diplomatic and ecclesiastical tasks and topics. The study of the legatine office is exceptionally complex and ranges from high diplomacy and spiritual benefits brought for distinct provinces, to the personal interests and involvement of individual cardinals. This book tries to open discussion on research that has only just started and needs to be developed as an integral part of our understanding of medieval papal and European history.

Ensemble de règles et de coutumes établies en matière de préséances, d’honneurs et d’étiquette lors de cérémonies officielles, le protocole est un rituel central de la diplomatie depuis les époques les plus anciennes. En répondant premièrement à une exigence d’ordonnancement, le protocole garantit le respect de l’égalité des rôles et des rangs des personnalités conviées à un événement de la scène internationale, indépendamment de la taille ou de la puissance de leurs États d’origine. Séquence d’actes et de paroles méthodiquement préparée et exécutée, le protocole ne se limite pas à favoriser la conduite harmonieuse de la diplomatie, mais il contribue également à son expression symbolique. En interprétant le protocole comme un phénomène historique et sociologique, le présent travail vise à détecter et à analyser les modalités selon lesquelles les dispositions et les usages protocolaires sont appliqués au sein des principales enceintes multilatérales de l’époque contemporaine. Il essaie à la fois d’éclairer comment le protocole, tout en conservant certains aspects traditionnels, représente en réalité un rituel politique « évolutif », en mesure de s’adapter aux changements des époques et aux situations, même d’urgence, comme la pandémie de Coronavirus.

Resumen Este trabajo demuestra cual es el momento exacto en que se produce la separación entre el protocolo y ceremonial de corte y el protocolo y ceremonial de Estado en España: la formación de las Cortes de Cádiz en 1810. Estas Cortes surgen en medio de un proceso de invasión del territorio, vacío de poderes por la ausencia del rey por lo que necesitan de un instrumento que les sirva de propaganda y legitimación ante sus conciudadanos por ello el primer decreto fue la creación de las cortes y el segundo la atribución de unos tratamientos y garantizar el juramento y la lealtad política de todas las instituciones públicas del nuevo Estado de corte liberal que querían diseñar. La proxemia u ordenación de espacios ceremoniales de los actos oficiales del Estado sigue una determinada orientación hoy en día determinada fundamentalmente por su devenir histórico. Todos admitimos sin más dicha ordenación fruto de una determinada normativa y/o tradición o costumbre inveterada, pero desconocemos qué rasgos presentan determinados elementos, en relación con el papel jugado simbólicamente por las instituciones, en cuanto manifestación del poder representada por los diferentes actores portadores de una determinada cantidad de “soberanía” o “poder”. Nuestra hipótesis de partida es que existe una continuidad del protocolo en el ceremonial de acceso a la institución política superior de España a lo largo del constitucionalismo decimonónico. Pero la instauración de la Monarquía en la figura de Juan Carlos I, ha supuesto cambios importantes que se concretan en un estado democrático y social de derecho cuya forma de gobierno teórica es una monarquía parlamentaria, consagrada en la Constitución de 1978, aunque cuando observamos el orden ceremonial en la trasmisión de poderes de Juan Carlos I a Felipe VI, y en el acceso de éste último a la Corona, comprobamos una quiebra importante en el ceremonial que emite un mensaje y una imagen fruto de la comunicación no verbal que encierra una realidad totalmente distinta respecto del sistema político que subyace en el fondo del mismo.Por ello realizaremos un breve recorrido de cómo se han ido conformando las ceremonias de acceso al poder en España en la etapa precia al constitucionalismo decimonónico. Continuaremos partiendo de la distinción entre las formas de estado de las formas de gobierno, para proceder a continuación a analizar el ceremonial de acceso al poder tanto en la Monarquía, República (analizando el caso de Niceto Alcalá Zamora) y Dictadura (con el supuesto de Francisco Franco). Dentro de la propia monarquía establecemos una casuística establecida en función de la forma de acceso a la misma. Los casos a analizar son Carlos IV (monarquía por fallecimiento del titular, y que nos sirve de bisagra entre la etapa constitucional y la previa denominada Antiguo Régimen) Fernando VII (Monarquía: acceso por abdicación del titular Carlos IV), Amadeo I (monarca elegido con entrada de una nueva casa reinante), Alfonso XII (Monarquía, por restauración de la Casa de Borbón), Alfonso XIII (Monarquía, acceso tras una Regencia, dando algún datos sobre su precedente Isabel II), Finalizaremos con el análisis de la jura y proclamación de Felipe VI, partiendo del precedente de Juan Carlos I (Monarquía, por designación del dictador como sucesor a titulo de rey y posterior reinstauración de la Casa de Borbón).

A landmark in the history of the Maltese islands, the victory of 1565 represented a turning point in the struggle of Christendom against the Ottoman Empire. As early as October 1564, rumours circulated about an attack of the Ottomans on the island of Malta. The Grand Master of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, Jean Parisot de La Valette, immediately ordered the return of all Knights to the Convent - the headquarters of the Order in Birgu - and appealed for assistance in preparing the immment siege.

Las Relaciones entre las instituciones no deben ser tomadas a broma. Cada una detenta su propia esfera del poder, pero, como si de un cuerpo se tratase, todos los miembros del Estado deben actuar en armonía y de forma comunicada y coherentes con los postulados, principios y normas que los rigen y bajo los que funcionan.
Este volumen recoge una serie de aportaciones de diferentes es-pecialistas acerca de la importancia que revisten las instituciones y las relaciones institucionales desde diferentes puntos de vista, pero sin perder de vista lo que el ceremonial y el protocolo puede aportar a las mismas.

RESUMEN

“Miguel Hidalgo en los relatos de nación. Del patriotismo criollo al nacionalismo posrevolucionario” no es una investigación que se ocupe de la vida y obra de Hidalgo. Este estudio desarrolla  cómo se construyó el mito nacional en torno a este personaje y cuál fue la importancia que tuvo dicho mito en el proceso de invención de la nación mexicana durante el siglo XIX y primera mitad del XX.

        El trabajo está enfocado en dos aspectos importantes: se aborda cómo el mito del “padre de la patria” ha sido utilizado como estrategia de legitimación política  y como fuerza cohesionadora que facilitó que la población se identificara y sintiera parte de una sola comunidad cultural y política: la nación mexicana

        Para desarrollar la investigación fue necesario identificar los distintos imaginarios nacionales que fueron impulsados desde el siglo XIX para explicar qué era la nación mexicana, qué era lo mexicano y quiénes eran los mexicanos. Cada uno de estos imaginarios fue promovido por diversas condiciones políticas, económicas y tecnológicas. Una vez que se tuvieron estos contextos, en cada uno de ellos se desarrolla qué interpretación se hacía de Miguel Hidalgo, cómo las elites rectoras del país reinterpretaron y se apropiaron de su culto para justificar su poder político y para potenciar una identidad nacional en el resto de la población.

        Esta estrategia metodológica fue derivada de la llamada “teoría modernista sobre el nacionalismo y la invención de las naciones”, la cual sostiene que las naciones modernas son construcciones culturales que tuvieron cabida a finales del siglo XVIII e inicios del XIX, cuando se desplazó la tradición divino-dinástica de los Estados de Antiguo régimen y “la Nación” fue colocada como fuente de soberanía de los Estados modernos. La investigación se centró en cuatro tipo de fuentes: la historiografía clásica del siglo XIX, las celebraciones patrióticas, la enseñanza de historia patria en sistema escolar influenciado por el gobierno y a partir de las fuentes icónicas (monumentos, pintura, etc.) que han tenido un peso en la construcción de imaginarios nacionales.

        Como última precisión, es pertinente mencionar que la tesis, aunque está centrada en la invención del mito del “padre de la patria”, también aporta conocimiento sobre el proceso de invención de la nación mexicana y lo que esto ha implicado: la manipulación del discurso histórico.

The concentration of small and medium-sized dynastic states in the central Po valley, yet in the second half of the seventeenth century, offers numerous opportunities for meetings between the representatives of their respective sovereign families, while the appointments of these princes with the members of the other Italian ruling families are rarer. The meetings between the princes of the Peninsula always play a familiar political role, so that the existence of disputes over their respective titles and «treatments» may require preventive action of ministers and advisers. The extensive use of the «incognito», ie private character, by the princes, both sovereign and non-rulers, who are traveling outside their home states allow them to avoid these embarrassments, sometimes even giving up the magnificent reception by foreign courts. Advocates of meetings are particularly princesses married abroad, for which their appointments with the beloved brothers are valuable opportunities to keep alive the ties with the homeland and with the memories of a spent childhood.

L'auteure analyse successivement le cérémonial d'intégration (concours de beauté, réception de la fiancée impériale, mariage et couronnement), le cérémonial palatial ( la nécessité d'une impératrice, le rituel de l'accouchement, les cérémonies de cour, les vêtements d'apparat de l'impératrice et le jeu des couleurs) le cérémonial observé lors de processions et des déplacements de l'impératrice à l'extérieur du palais ( les promenades champêtres, les résidences de loisir et les pèlerinages...), la première place

The scope of the paper is to reconstruct the process of negotiation over diplomatic ceremonial in Polish-Moldavian relations. Whereas perceived by most historians as ahistorical and traditional - mere decoration even - ceremonial entries played crucial role in both representing and establishing relations of power between Polish-Lithuanian envoys and Moldavian rulers. Starting from initial imaginary representations of ceremonial, the paper centres around ceremonial as an inherently political phenomenon, often at the centre of the struggle for political legitimacy in early modern Southeastern Europe.

The heralds' compendia are covering a surprising variety of texts, dealing as well with the heralds and their office itself as well as the different ceremonies of chivalry and the organisation and the symbols of the noble society. Presenting themselves nearly as a kind of manuals for the heralds' office, these manuscripts, until now widely neglected, constitute a veritable "kaleidoscope" of the late medieval noble culture. Because, the duties and interests of the heralds of arms surpassed largely their preoccupation with heraldry in stricto sensu: they consist either in diplomacy and noble representation, especially in the preservation and spreading of the honour of the nobility. The aim of the present study is to introduce this promising group of sources, proposing a preliminary classification and interpretation. Therefore it makes use of two different methods. The first one focuses on the manuscripts as material objects, trying to locate their elaboration and reception in their former concrete historical context. The second one studies the texts they are including, stressing the difference between their instrumental and symbolic meaning to present in detail their eventual use and inherent attraction. By these means, the present thesis achieves to demonstrate how noble readers get appropriate the compendia. It explains this phenomenon by a peculiar image of nobility carried by them, which turns them into witnesses for the transition from the feudal society to the uprising princely state. Finally, this thesis propagates a new comprehension of the singular role played by the heralds at the end of the middle ages.

Les compendia des hérauts d'armes réunissent une diversité de textes étonnante. Ceux-ci traitent aussi bien de l'office d'armes en lui-même, que des cérémonies chevaleresques et de la société nobiliaire en général. Se présentant presque comme des manuels dédiés aux Hérauts d'armes, ces manuscrits, qui passèrent jusque là presque totalement inaperçus, constituent un véritable " kaléidoscope " de la culture nobiliaire de la fin du Moyen-Âge. Car les devoirs et les intérêts du héraut d'armes dépassaient largement l'héraldique au sens propre et s'étendaient non seulement à la diplomatie, mais également au cérémoniel de la cour. Avant tout il leur incombait de préserver et de propager l'honneur de la noblesse. Le but de cette étude était de faire connaître cette source prometteuse et d'en proposer une première classification ainsi qu'une première interprétation. Pour ces raisons, deux méthodes ont été utilisées. La première se consacre aux supports matériels de ces compendia et cherche à replacer chacun des manuscrits conservés dans leur contexte d'élaboration et celui de leur réception. La seconde s'attache au contenu des textes qu'ils referment en tentant de différencier leur enjeu pratique de leur portée symbolique, afin d'éclairer leur usage éventuel leur attrait présumé. La thèse est ainsi parvenue à démontrer comment la noblesse s'appropria ces compendia. Ce phénomène, explicable par une certaine image de la noblesse qu'ils véhiculent, fait de ces compendia des témoins privilégiés de la transition de la société féodale vers l'état princier. Enfin, la thèse illustre d'une façon nouvelle le rôle singulier des hérauts d'armes à la fin du Moyen-Âge.

Die Kompendien der spätmittelalterlichen Herolde vereinen in sich eine erstaunliche Vielfalt von Texten. Sie handeln ebenso vom Heroldsamt selbst, wie von den verschiedenen Zeremonien der Ritterschaft und der Welt des Adels im Allgemeinen. Mögen sie auf den ersten Blick auch wie schlichte Handbücher zur Ausübung des Heroldsberufes erscheinen - tatsächlich stellen sie wahrhaftes « Kaleidoskop » der spätmittelalterlichen Adelswelt dar. Denn die Interessen und Pflichten der Herolde gingen weit über die Heraldik im eigentlichen Sinne hinaus: Sie fanden ebenso in der Diplomatie eine wichtige Rolle wie im höfischen Zeremoniell. Vor allem aber kam es ihnen zu, die Ehre des Adels er bewahren und zu verbreiten. Das Ziel der Studie ist es, diese vielversprechende Quellengruppe zu erschließen und eine erste Klassifikation wie v.a. eine erste Interpretation ihrer Inhalte anzubieten. Hierfür wird auf zwei wesentliche Methoden zurückgegriffen. Die erste widmet sich v.a. den erhaltenen Handschriften als solches und fragt nach dem Kontext der Entstehung und Rezeption der Kompilationen. Die zweite hingegen setzt sich mit den Inhalten der einzelnen darin enthaltenen Texte auseinander und versucht zwischen deren praktischem Wert und symbolischer Bedeutung zu unterscheiden, um so ihren eventuellen Gebrauch und ihre mögliche Attraktivität zu erhellen. Die Arbeit konnte dabei zeigen, wie sehr der Adel selbst sich für diese Kompilationen interessierte und deren Überlieferung an sich zog. Ein, Phänomen, welches sich vor allem durch das ganz eigene, besondere Adelsbild erklären läßt, welches die Heroldskompendien propagierten und sie damit zu herausragenden Zeugnissen des Übergangs von der alten Lehnsgesellschaft zum modernen Fürstenstaat macht. Die Arbeit demonstriert damit auf eine ganz neues Weise die besondere Rolle, welche den Herolde in den gesellschaftlichen Umbrüchen des ausgehenden Mittelalter zukam.

Felipe V, lejos de imitar a sus antepasados Borbones o continuar con el modelo establecido por los reyes españoles, alteró significativamente el modo en cómo un soberano de Antiguo Régimen debía ejercer sus responsabilidades públicas. Con el fin de satisfacer las demandas de sus numerosas inclinaciones personales, el nuevo monarca promovió la creación de una esfera privada en el seno de la corte y permitió que su segunda mujer, la reina Isabel de Farnesio, incrementara su autoridad pública y su influencia a la hora de administrar la potestad regia. Este volumen analiza, en consecuencia, cómo la cultura cortesana española se vio alterada durante las tres primeras décadas del siglo XVIII promoviendo con ello el nacimiento y consolidación de una nueva idea y práctica de la majestad.

Le poids culturel et social du modèle français des distinctions nationales fut important en Albanie dans la période de l'entre-deux-guerres, tant du point de vue de la consolidation de l'Etat, que de celui de la fidélisation des élites autour du principe monarchique et de l'attachement des classes dirigeantes aux valeurs véhiculées par le modèle français en général.

The study of ritual in history was primarily fostered by the convergence of history with the social sciences and especially anthropology which contributed a theoretical scheme to social history and to the new political history responsible for the analysis of historical phenomena previously deemed tangential, marginal or anecdotal. This article begins by detailing the main foundations of ritual study established by the social sciences. Following this, we will assess how ritual study became the object of Western European medieval history, along with its breakthrough in the Iberian context. Finally, through a discussion of the major debates surrounding medieval ritual, such as the issue of the sacred nature of kingship, we will assess the scholarship of the last few decades on the history of late medieval political rituals in the Christian Iberian kingdoms.

Nel cerimoniale delle corti europee d'età moderna, le uscite pubbliche dei sovrani occupavano un posto importante. In essa centrali erano le carrozze di gale, che avevano il compito di mostrare lo splendore del sovrano ed i simboli del suo potere. L'uso delle carrozze era regolato da un complesso cerimoniale. Il saggio analizzo questo cerimoniale in relazione alla corte dei Savoia fra Seicento ed Ottocento.

The Queens' royal stable became more important in the Court from Isabel de Valois. It unleashed gradual changes within its organization, structure and tasks in order to provide a better answer to the service necessities. Thus, it adapted itself to the new socio-political realities and the duties of the etiquette and the royal ceremonial that were codifying over these years. The origin of the «representative vehicle» would also transform drastically this palace department by changing its composition and prompting significant changes for etiquette and the way the queens and their Court to show. The analysis of its development over XVI century evidences, on one hand, the medieval organizational model developed into a modern and courtier model, and the other hand, the boundaries of the Castilian courtier model, whose ideal was the Queen Isabel la Católica's household

La globalización es un proceso económico, tecnológico, social y cultural a escala planetaria que consiste en la creciente comunicación e interdependencia entre los distintos países del mundo uniendo sus mercados, sociedades y culturas, a través de una serie de transformaciones sociales, económicas y políticas que les dan un carácter global (WIKIPEDIA). En tal orden de cosas conocer los distintos usos sociales y costumbres de las diferentes culturas, que varían según religiones, zonas geográficas, regímenes y razas que pueblan el planeta, resulta fundamental para entablar relaciones públicas eficaces y lograr una perfecta comunicación.
Este trabajo trata de poner de manifiesto las distintas maneras socioculturales de comportamiento necesarias de conocer con finalidad relacional.
