Este artigo tem como objetivo principal apresentar e discutir os fundamentos da gestão da qualidade e da nova versão da NBR ISO 9001, incluindo a aplicação do enfoque por processos nos serviços de informação, com o objetivo de apoiar a melhoria dos processos implantados nestes serviços e principalmente apoiar seu gerenciamento, visando à otimização de recursos e à elevação dos níveis de satisfação dos clientes, itens considerados fundamentais pelas organizações que optam por programas relacionados à gestão da qualidade.

Reports on research undertaken because the Malaysian delegation to an ASEAN‐COCI seminar felt there was a need to understand what is meant by “Quality” from the librarian’s perspective. A survey was undertaken to obtain feedback from librarians. Questionnaires were sent to all (10) university librarians, all (13) state public libraries and six selected special libraries. The response rate was 100 per cent from university libraries, 77 per cent from public libraries and 100 per cent from special libraries. An analysis of the responses provided insights into what quality means to librarians, the policy infrastructure available, the obstacles faced by librarians in the implementation of quality measures and the strategies they employ to ensure quality services. It also provided an insight into their future plans.

Purpose - – The purpose of this paper is to explore how ISO 26000 inter-marries with millennium development goals (MDGs) with a view to demonstrate and recommend how businesses can successfully use this intermarriage to solve society problems. Design/methodology/approach - – Case methodology was used to investigate how a company can use the social responsibility standard, ISO 26000, to guide its corporate social responsibility (CSR) aimed at contributing to MDGs. The study related to pharmaceutical packaging has come to attention for its importance to the quality of drugs and compliance achievement. The aims of this study is to provide a conceptual view of producing a new model of pharmaceutical drug packaging design to overcome existing problems. The proposed methods for this research is to use the process mining techniques to support the construction of a new model for pharmaceutical packaging design process improvement. A case study method was selected for the methodology of the research resulted the flow of packaging design process in pharmaceutical company. The study lengthens the knowledge of drug packaging design process and concludes the importance of drug packaging design process to be investigated for compliance fulfilment purposes. This study is significant to the strong implication of drug quality and safety outcomes for the patients.

A challenge facing U.S. businesses is maintaining their role as technological and manufacturing leaders while protecting the natural environment in which they operate. Increased costs of maintaining environmental compliance, political pressure, and customer and supplier demand have caused hundreds of companies to reevaluate their traditional manufacturing processes and operations. Many biscuit manufacturers face the issue of updating quality management systems based on a risk analysis imposed by recent changes to ISO 9001:2015. It has been found that the main innovation in the standard is the determination of the analysis of the risk related to the influence of external and internal factors of the environment. The purpose of this study is to apply in practice a methodology for risk analysis of the external and internal environment of the organization using the example or the case of biscuit production. The model is based on an expert evaluation and includes the simultaneous application of FMEA (failure mode and effects analysis) and PESTLE (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental) analyses. Based  on  AnexSL,  some  standards  were  adopted  (ISO  22301  and  ISO 27001:2013), and the preparation of the fifth edition of ISO 9001:2015 started. Reasons for path  towards  uniformity  standards  are  the  drop  in  interests  for  the  certification  and application  management  standards  related  to  the  expectations  and  plans,  problems  in previous transitions to new versions of the standards and primally approved concept of the necessity  for  harmonization  management  standards.  This  paper  gives  the  analysis  of requirements that brings  Annex SL, changes which are applied to the new version of BS/ ISO/ DIS9001:2015, and an analysis of the possibilities of harmonization of ISO standards.

Standards are used in all realms of human activity in order to specify the characteristics of a product, or its manufacture. In the process, they fulfil a range of functions, such as lowering risks, increasing trust and facilitating predictability in a given market. Standards reduce information costs for market players, which in turn allows for a more efficient functioning of the market. For international trade in foodstuffs, harmonisation of the wide variety of food standards is essential in order to facilitate the global food-sourcing trend. As traditional market access barriers are dismantled, non-tariff measures offer a tool for the potential protection of domestic products, thus calling for effective forms of food governance. This article explores the legal implications of international standards under the TBT Agreement in the light of the WTO Appellate Body's case law. It further analyses the role played by international standard-setting organisations, such as the CAC and the ISO, in predicting the outcome of pending WTO disputes. Against this backdrop, this article also attempts to shed light on the current legal debate surrounding the use of private food standards within the SPS Committee.

This paper examines the relationship between quality management and human aspects (empowerment, recognition, personnel policies and effects on employees) in Spanish certified firms. It studies: (a) the importance of these aspects for quality improvement, and (b) whether certified firms which are more advanced in quality management and have a better performance show a higher degree of implementation of human aspects. The paper shows that this relationship exists and that certified firms with a greater extent of quality management do show a higher interest in human aspects. Therefore, human aspects are necessary to improve quality management in this kind of firms.

Although it is probably the best-known prospective hazard analysis (PHA) tool, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is far from the only option available. This article introduces one of the alternatives: The structured what-if technique (SWIFT). SWIFT is a flexible, high-level risk identification technique that can be used on a stand-alone basis, or as part of a staged approach to make more efficient use of bottom-up methods like FMEA. In this article we describe the method, assess the evidence related to its use in healthcare with the use of a systematic literature review, and suggest ways in which it could be better adapted for use in the healthcare industry. Based on the limited evidence available, it appears that healthcare workers find it easy to learn, easy to use, and credible. Especially when used as part of a staged approach, SWIFT appears capable of playing a useful role as component of the PHA armamentarium.
